Knights softball sweeps Williston State on Saturday

NPCC Knights LogoNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights softball team defeated the Williston State College Lady Tetons in a doubleheader at the Wayne Dowhower Softball Complex Saturday afternoon, 16-7 and 6-3.

The Lady Tetons jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning. The Knights’ Samantha Gill led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run. The Knights proceeded to score five runs in their half of the first to tie the score at five.

The Knights kept their attack going by scoring six in the bottom of the second. Shelby Belloni and Alexandra Baldner each doubled in the inning.
Mikela Cabagua doubled to lead off the third for the Knights. Cabagua scored when she stole third and the Teton catcher had a throwing error. Sarah

Beaton then reached on an error and Samantha Foster followed up with a two-run home run over the left center field fence to increase the Knights lead to 14-5 at the end of three.

Foster, after giving up five runs in the first inning, retired eight of the next nine batters. The only Teton to reach base was put out on a 1-6-3 double play.

The Lady Tetons scored two runs in the fifth inning to avoid the eight-run rule.

In the Knights half of the fifth, Beaton reached on an error and Foster hit her second home run of the game to end the game after five innings.
Foster got the win, pitching five innings and striking out one Lady Teton.

In game two, the Lady Tetons had two runners reach base but did not score in their half of the first.

Gill led off the Knights first with a double and scored on a single by Belloni.

The Lady Tetons had a run in the second inning to tie the game at one, but the Knights answered back in their half of the second on a run by Erin Renwick to take back the lead at 2-1

Foster led off the third with a double and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Belloni was overthrown, allowing Foster to score. Belloni scored on a sacrifice fly by Shelley Heredia to right field. Baldner then doubled and scored on a single by Renwick. The Knights led after three, 5-1.

Renwick singled in the fifth and Ana Kaniho came in as a courtesy runner. Kaniho scored on a single by Gill to give the Knights a 6-1 lead after five.

The Lady Tetons Rebekkah Withouse led off the sixth with a walk and scored when Madison Raynaud homered to close the Knights lead to 6-3.

Renwick pitched six innings for the Knights to get the win, striking out one and allowed eight hits and three runs. Foster closed the game out by pitching the seventh to get the save.

Foster had three doubles in the second game and scored one run. She had a total of six hits on the day with two home runs and the three doubles.

The Knights are now 13-20 on the season. The Lady Tetons fall to 2-16 on the season.

Knights softball loses two in doubleheader with Iowa Western

NPCC Knights on ESPNNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights softball team were swept by the Iowa Western Community College Lady Reivers in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, 6-0 and 15-7, at the Wayne A. Dowhower Softball Complex.

The Lady Reivers got on the board early against Knights pitcher Samantha Foster by scoring two runs in the first inning on a run batted in on a single by Keelee Huff and sacrifice fly by Rebecca Riley. Lady Reiver pitcher Breanna Brock held the Knights to three hits and seven strikeouts in the first game. Foster struck out four Lady Reivers in her seven innings pitched. Shelby Belloni, Sarah Beaton, and Erin Renwick each got a hit.

In game two the Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first two innings. Foster, Alyiah Franco and Alexandra Baldner each scoring a run. They Lady Reivers scored four runs in their half of the third to make the score 4-3. The Lady Reivers scored an additional five runs in the fourth to take a 9-3 lead. In the Knights half of the fourth, Franco had a solo home run to cut the Lady Reiver lead to 9-4

The Lady Reivers came right back and scored four runs in the fifth to take a 13-4. Belloni, Shelley Heredia and Mikela Cabagua each scored a run for the Knights to make the score 13-7.

Iowa Western scored two runs in the sixth to shorten the game due to the eight run rule.

The Knights are now 11-20 on the season. They will play the Williston State College Tetons in doubleheaders on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26.

Game times are at 3 pm and 5 pm on Saturday, and 1 pm and 3 pm on Sunday.

Knights softball returns home to face Iowa Western after 27 straight games away from home

NPCC Knights on ESPNNorth Platte – For the second time this season, the Knights softball team will be playing in front of the home crowd on Thursday, March 23. They will be facing the Iowa Western Community College Lady Reivers in a doubleheader at the Wayne Dowhower Softball Complex.

The Knights opened up their season at home, against Northeast Community College back on Feb 11, winning both games 7-5 and 13-5. Since that time they have been on the road for the past 27 games.

The Knights opponent on Thursday, the Lady Reivers, defeated the Knights on Sunday in a doubleheader 5-1 and 13-5.

The Knights are 11-18 on the season. Going into this past weekend action, Samantha Gill leads the Knights in hitting with a .527 batting average, eight doubles, and two home runs. Gill also has a .716 slugging percentage to lead the Knights. Samantha Foster is next in hitting with a .500 batting average. Foster is tied with Gill for the team lead in doubles with eight and has one home run. Foster does lead the Knights in runs batted in with 29. Aliyiah Franco has also hit two home runs to tie Gill for the team lead.

In the ring, Foster has an earned run average of 3.37 in 13 appearances and has struck out 44 batters. Erin Renwick has a 4.49 ERA in 13 appearances. Renwick has struck out 36 batters.

The Lady Reivers are 15-8 on the season. Celia Valencia leads the Lady Reivers in batting with a .522 batting average. Rebecca Riley is close behind with a .510 batting average. Riley has also hit five doubles and a home run. Alyx Hagen leads the Lady Reivers in home runs with five.

In the ring, Zoe Hicks, in five appearances, has an earned run average of 3.65. Hicks has struck out 16 and has allowed only two home runs. Hagen has a 4.31 earned run average and has struck out 17.

Game times are scheduled for 3 pm and 5 pm.

Game one will be broadcast on ESPN radio 1410 prior to NCAA Basketball Tournament coverage and on the internet at www.northplattepost.com. They will also be livestreamed at www.npccknights.com.

Knights softball splits doubleheader at Northeast CC

NPCC Knights LogoNorfolk – The North Platte Community College Knights softball team split a doubleheader against the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks on Monday afternoon, winning the first game 6-4 in extra innings, then dropping the second game 0-5.

The Knight’s Samantha Foster had a two-run home run in the first game.

In the second game, the Lady Hawks pitcher Teanne Edens allowed two hits including a triple by Alyiah Franco.

The Knights are now 11-28. They will return home to play Iowa Western Community College. Game times are at 3 pm and 5 pm.

Knights softball swept by Western Nebraska

NPCC Knights on ESPNScottsbluff – The North Platte Community College Knights softball team dropped a doubleheader to the Western Nebraska Community College Lady Cougars on Wednesday, losing 14-4 in the first game and 8-0 in the final game.

In game one Samantha Foster had three hits, scoring one run and batting in two. Alyiah Franco added two hits. Samantha Gill and Erin Renwick, each had one run batted in.

Alicia Romo took the loss for the Knights. Romo pitched two thirds of an inning and allowed two runs and a home run. Renwick pitched three and a third inning, striking out one and allowing earned runs.

Jasmine Wessel had three hits for the Lady Cougars and drove in five runs. Ana Apodaca homered for the Lady Cougars.

In the ring Sarah Linford got the win for the Lady Cougars, allowing eight hits and three earned runs.

In game two, the Lady Cougars Ashley Thomas pitched the five inning complete game. Thomas allowed only two hits for the Knights, while striking out three.

Wessel, Apodaca and Emily Selby each had two hits for the Lady Cougars. Wessel had two runs batted in.

Getting the hits for the Knights were Foster and Gill. Foster pitched the complete game, allowing nine hits and four earned runs. Foster also struck out four Lady Cougars.

The Knights are now 10-15, and will travel to Council Bluffs, Iowa to play Iowa Western Community College in double headers on Sunday, March 19, and then to Norfolk to play Northeast Community College on Monday, March 20. Game times are at 2 pm and 4 pm each day.
