Lady Knights volleyball signs Ogallala’s Amanda Kroeger

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team has announced the signing of Amanda Kroeger of Ogallala to their 2017 recruiting class.

Kroeger, a 5’ 10” outside hitter played for the Ogallala High School Lady Indians under head coach Steve Morgan.

In her career, Kroeger played in 167 sets, recording 397 kills, 248 defensive digs, 34 total blocks and 53 service aces.

“We are excited to complete our roster with Amanda because she is a great kid that comes from a great program.” Lady Knights Head Coach Alexa McCall said, “She is an outside and we will look for her to be a contender for the outside position. She’s a solid player all the way around.”

Kroeger is the Lady Knights ninth and final recruit for the 2017 season. Kroeger joins her high school teammate Jade Max from Ogallala, Neci Sundquist from Dayton, Wyo., Carly Moss from Loveland, Colo., Carlie Wytulka from Nucla, Colo., Luisa Hernandez from Yuma, Colo., Shaylee Johnson from Fleming, Colo., Jordyn Simpson from North Platte, and Taylin McNair from Imperial are the other signees.

Knights softball splits doubleheader in McCook

NPCC Knights LogoMcCook – The North Platte Community College Knights softball team split a doubleheader with the McCook Community College Indians on Wednesday afternoon, losing the first game 12-4 and winning the second game 14-8.

The Knights will take to the road and participate in the Austin, Minnesota Tournament on Saturday March 4 and Sunday, March 5.

On Saturday the Knights will play North Iowa Community College at 4 pm CST. They will then face Southeastern Iowa Community College at 6 pm CST.

On Sunday, they take the field at 9 am, when they face North Dakota State College of Science. In the final game for the Knights in the tournament, the Knights will face Ellsworth Community Colllege at 11 am

The Knights are 7-9 on the season.

29th Annual North Platte Bowling Hall of Fame & Awards Banquet

bowlingThe 29th Annual North Platte Bowling Hall of Fame & Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday, March 11th at the Eagles Club. Social hour is from 5:00-6:00 P.M. with dinner served at 6:00 P.M. Adult tickets are $20.00 with a choice of Prime Rib or Shrimp. Tickets for children 12 and under are $10.00 with a choice of Shrimp or Chicken Strips. Shannon Schroeder, Sam Hansen and Steve Simpson will be inducted into the North Platte Bowling Hall of Fame. We will also announce the Women’s and Youth Bowler of the Year. Winners of the women’s City Tournament will also be announced. Awards will be distributed to our youth bowlers for their many bowling accomplishments throughout the year. Lady Knights host Central in Region IX Division II Championship

NPCC Knights on ESPNNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team will host the Region IX Division II Women’s Basketball Championship game on Monday, March 6 at 7 pm at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

The Lady Knights are the number one seed and will play Central Community College for the Region IX Division II Championship.

The Lady Knights have won the Region IX Division II tournament five times: 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2014.

All three teams finished tied in Region IX Division II play during the regular season at 2-2. The seedings were based on point differentials among the three teams because all three split their season games with each other.

The winner of the Region IX Division II championship will host the winner of Region 13 for the District F championship on March 11, to see who will go to the National Junior College Athletic Association National Division II Tournament in Harrison, Ark., on March 21-25.

The Region IX Division II championship game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 1410 and on the Internet at www.northplattepost.com. It will also be livestreamed at www.npccknights.com.

NPCC Lady Knights volleyball to offer summer camps

volleyball-campAlexa McCall, Head Volleyball coach at North Platte Community College announced the dates for the 2017 Lady Knights Junior Volleyball and Basketball Camps and high school team camps for the summer.

The dates of the camp are: June 21 – 23 for girls entering grades 3 – 5; and July 12 – July 14 for girls entering grades 6 – 8. The volleyball camp will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the basketball camp will be from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m..

The cost of the junior camp is $65.00 for both camps or $50.00 for one camp.

The volleyball camp will emphasize basic fundamentals such as footwork, passing, setting, serving, offensive skills and defensive skills.

The basketball camp will emphasize basic fundamentals such as shooting, passing, dribbling, footwork, defense, rebounding and team play.

A camp T-shirt is free if application is sent in before June 9th. After that date, camp T-shirts are $10.00.

The second type of camp is a high school team camp. There will be two sessions, June 19-20 and July 10-11. Cost for the team camp is $40.00 per player. Each team is guaranteed six games of pool play. There are three divisions: Varsity, Junior Varsity and Reserve.

HIGHLIGHTS: Knights close regular season with 5th straight win, defeat McCook 80-76

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team finished off their regular season in front of a large crowd, defeating the McCook Community College Indians, 80-76 on Tuesday night at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on “Sophomore Night.”

The game was the final appearance in front of home fans for sophomores Diontae Champion, Jordan Mills, Victor Lewis, David Niklasson, and Mike Amius.

The game was close through most of the first half. There were five lead changes in the first half. With the Knights leading 21-20, they went on a 14-5 run to take their biggest lead of the first half at 35-25. The Knights held a 39-32 halftime lead.

The Knights led the entire second half. The Indians did pull within one at 65-64, but the Knights built up their lead after a 7-2 run to take a 72-66 lead. The Indians went on their own run of 7-4 to pull within three at 76-73. After a basket by Lewis and two free throws by Samuel Kearns, the game was a three possession game at 80-73. The Indians Torrey Mayo hit a three-pointer for the final points of the game.

The Knights are 22-7 for the season and 9-7 in Region IX South Sub-Region play. They were a perfect 6-0 in the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference.

The Knights were led in scoring by Lewis and Godfrey Rolle with 16 points each. Amius added 12 points and Nate Duda finished with 10 points. Amius had eight rebounds for the team lead. Amius also had five blocked shots on the evening.

The Indians, who are 15-15 on the season, finish 4-12 in South Sub-Region play and 3-3 in the NCCAC. Draylan Perkins led all scorers with 21 points. Three other Indians finished in double figures. Lewis Diankulu had 13 points, D’Von Moore added 11 points and Brody Sharkey chipped in 10 points. Diankulu finished with five rebounds to lead the Indians.

The Knights will now travel to La Junta, Colo., to play Otero Junior College in the opening round of the Region IX tournament on Saturday, March 4. The Knights, Otero, and Trinidad all finished with identical records in the final South Sub-Region standings but gained the fourth seed through tiebreakers. The Knights split with both Otero and Trinidad. Otero swept Trinidad, which gave Otero the fourth seed and Trinidad finished as the sixth seed.

Laramie County is the number one seed in the South Sub-Region and will play McCook in the first round.

Tip-off time for the Otero- Knights has yet to be determined.

Knights softball opens NCCAC play at McCook

NPCC Knights LogoNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights softball team will travel to McCook on Wednesday, March 1 to play a doubleheader against the McCook Community College Lady Indians.

Game times are at 2 pm and 4 pm.

The Lady Indians are 2-10 on the season. Angelica Evans leads the Lady Indians in hitting with a .405 batting average and a .459 slugging percentage. Alexis Moeaki has the only home run for the Lady Indians.

In the ring, the Taya Thorpe has a 5.54 earned run average with 20 strikeouts. Thorpe is 2-4 on the season

The Knights are 6-8 on the season. Samantha Gill is hitting .545 to lead the Knights, followed by Samantha Foster at .531. Gill also leads the Knights in slugging percentage at .773, home runs with two, and runs batted in with 15.

In the ring, Foster has a 3.32 earned run average with 20 strikeouts. Foster is 3-4 on the season. Erin Renwick is tied with Foster in strikeouts and has a 4.67 earned run average.

The games will be the first games for both teams in the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference.

Gothenburg Swedes headed back to State; first consecutive state tournaments since 1929

GothenburgThe Gothenburg boys basketball team defeated Chadron, 53-47 in the C1-6 district championship game to advance to the state basketball tournament. The Swedes earned a state trip last season also, marking their first back-to-back state tournament trips since a run of four consecutive state tournaments from 1926-1929. It’s the 23rd all-time state tournament appearance for the Swedes.

Knights host McCook Tuesday night on Sophomore night at McDonald-Belton

NPCC Knights on ESPNNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team will finish off the regular season at home on Tuesday, Feb 28, playing the McCook Community College Indians at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM CST.

It will be the final home game for sophomores Diontae Champion, Jordan Mills, Victor Lewis, David Niklasson, and Mike Amius.

The Indians are 15-14 overall, 4-11 in Region IX South Sub-Region play, and 3-2 in the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference. Four Indians are averaging double figures in scoring led by Lewis Kiankulu, who is averaging 18.3 points per game. D’Von Moore is next at 16.6 ppg, followed closely by Draylan Perkins at 16.5 ppg. Brody Sharkey is the fourth Indian in double figures at 14.5 ppg. Diankulu leads the Indians in rebounding at 9.8 rebounds per game.

The Knights are 21-7 overall, 8-7 in the South Sub-Region and 5-0 in the NCCAC. Five Knights are scoring in double figures led by Champion at 15.3 ppg. Godfrey Rolle is second at 13.1 ppg, followed by Samuel Kearns at 12.8 ppg. Amius is averaging 11.5 ppg and Lewis is at 10.8 ppg for the final two Knights averaging in double figures. Amius leads the Knights in rebounding at 5.9 rpg.

The game will determine the seeding for the Region IX tournament for the Knights. The Indians have clinched the eighth seed. The Knights would get the fifth or sixth seed in the South Sub-Region depending on the outcome of the game.
