Lady Knights volleyball signs Neci Sundquist from Dayton, Wyoming

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team has announced the signing of Neci Sundquist for the 2017 volleyball season.

Sundquist, a 5’ 10” Outside hitter from Tongue River High School in Dayton, Wyo.

Lady Knight Head Coach Alexa McCall said, “We are very excited to have Neci join the Lady Knights. She will add some height for us on the outside and we are looking for her to be an impact player.”

Sundquist is the Lady Knights eighth signing for the 2017 season. Jade Max from Ogallala, Carly Moss from Loveland, Colo., Carlie Wytulka from Nucla, Colo., Luisa Hernandez from Yuma, Colo., Shaylee Johnson from Fleming, Colo., Jordyn Simpson from North Platte, and Taylin McNair from Imperial are the other signees.

Knights move one step closer to another NCCAC crown with 80-60 win at Central

NPCC Knights LogoColumbus – The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team used a strong second half to defeat the Central Community College Raiders 80-60 on Friday night in a Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference contest.

In the first half the Raiders shot 54.5 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the three-point line, while holding the Knights to 46.4 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range. The Knights led at halftime 36-30.

In the second half, the Knights defense held the Raiders to 33.3 percent from the field and 14.7 percent from three-point range for 30 points. The Knights scored 44 points in the second half, shooting 55.2 percent and making three of eight shots from three-point range.

The Knights are 18-7 overall and 4-0 in the NCCAC. Diontae Champion scored 19 points to lead the Knights in scoring. Four other Knights reached the double digit mark. Samuel Kearns and Godfrey Rolle each tallied 12 points. David Niklasson added 11 points and Victor Lewis chipped in 10 points. Champion grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Knights.

The Raiders are 15-13 and 0-5 in the NCCAC. The Raiders offense was provided by Jerome Dixon, who had a game high 28 points. The next highest scorer for the Raiders was eight points by Luke Cadzow and Marco Fabietti. Ruben Fuamba had nine rebounds to lead the Raiders.

The Knights will play on Saturday in another NCCAC contest at Southeast Community College in Beatrice. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 pm CST.

Lady Knights fall at Central 82-80

NPCC Knights LogoColumbus– The free throw line was the difference as the North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team was defeated by the Central Community College Raiders on Friday night 82-80.

The Lady Raiders went to the free throw line a total of 43 times making 27 of them. In comparison, the Lady Knights went to the line 25 times and made 16 of them.

The Lady Knights led the Lady Raiders 28-23 at the end of the first quarter and continued to lead at halftime 42-41.

The third quarter proved costly for the Lady Knights as they were outscored 24-17. The Lady Raiders led 65-59 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Knights rallied in the fourth and led on a few occasions, but the Lady Raiders prevailed in the end.

The Lady Knights are 8-17 on the season and 1-2 in Region IX Division II play. Four Lady Knights finished the evening in double figures led by Allison Tichy, who finished with 19 points. Jessica Lovitt added 17 points, Thomesha Wilson had 14 points and Mai’Zhrae Zeno had 12 points. Zeno and Lovitt each had a
double-double by grabbing 14 and 10 rebounds respectively.

The Lady Raiders are 11-13 overall and 1-2 in Region IX Division II play. Teisha Snyder led the Lady Raiders with 23 points. Snyder went 14 of 19 from the free throw line. Next in scoring for the Lady Raiders was Payton Blanke, who finished with 16 points. The other Lady Raider to finish in double figures was Quenshae Love, who had 15 points. Snyder also had a double-double with 15 rebounds.

The Lady Knights will travel to Beatrice tomorrow to play Southeast Community College in another Region IX Division II matchup at 2 pm CST

The Lady Knights will return home on Tuesday, Feb 21 for their final regular season game against McCook Community College at 7:30 pm. Following the game will be a retirement reception for Lady Knights Head Coach Richard Thurin who is retiring from coaching at the end of the season.

Knights unable to overcome slow start, fall 92-75 at Laramie County

NPCC Knights LogoCheyenne, Wyo. – The Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles came out firing and jumped out to a 24-4 lead, on their way to a 92-75 win over the North Platte Community College Knights basketball team on Wednesday night.

The Golden Eagles shot an incredible 18 for 28 from the field at 64.3 percent in the first half, while holding the Knights to a 42.3 oercent from the field. The Golden Eagles led at halftime 45-30.

In the second half, the Knights were able to pull within 10 at 67-57 on a three-pointer by Samuel Kearns, but the Golden Eagles answered back by outscoring the Knights 25-12 to give the Golden Eagles their biggest lead of the game at 92-69.

The Knights are 17-7 on the season, but are only 6-7 in Region IX South Sub-Region play. Godfrey Rolle led the Knights in scoring with 26 points, connecting on six of seven from behind the three-point line. Samuel Kearns added 22 points and Buom Dobuol added 11 points. Diontae Champion led the Knights with five rebounds.

The Golden Eagles are 18-9 on the season and are leading the South Sub-Region at 10-3. Five Golden Eagles reached double digits led by Dominik Heinzl with 22 points. DaZhon Wyche added 16 points. Ola Ayodele added 14 points, while Alfonzo Anderson and Elijah Oliver each had 13 points. Heinzl led the Golden Eagles with nine rebounds.

The Knights are on the road this weekend playing Central Community College on Friday at 7:30 PM in Columbus. On Saturday, they travel to Beatrice, to play Southeast Community College at 4 pm.

The two games are Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference games and do not count toward Region IX standings.

Lady Knights earn road victory over Laramie County 74-58

NPCC Knights LogoCheyenne, Wyo. – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team went on the road and defeated the Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles 74-58 on Wednesday night.

NPCC’s Jessica Lovitt scored five of the first eight points for the Lady Knights as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead to begin the game. The Lady Knights maintained that lead throughout the first quarter leading 18-10 at the end of the first quarter.

To begin the second quarter, the Lady Knights went on a 4-0 run and cushioned their lead to 12 at 22-10. The Golden Eagles outscored the Lady Knights 15-8 to pull within five at 30-25. The Lady Knights finished out the half outscoring the Golden Eagles 5-1 to hold a 35-26 lead at halftime.

The Golden Eagles cut the Lady Knight lead to three at 40-37 midway through the third quarter, but the Lady Knights closed out the period outscoring the Golden Eagles 15-8 to lead 55-45 at the end of the quarter.

The Lady Knights continued to extend their lead in the fourth quarter by going on a run of 8-2 for their biggest lead of the game at 63-47. The Golden Eagles did cut the lead to single digits at 63-54, but the Lady Knights used a 9-4 run to close out the game and secure the win

The Lady Knights are 8-16 on the season. Lovitt led the Lady Knights in scoring with 20 points. Allison Tichy added 16 points and Lexa Lealiiee added 12 points. Leilliiee also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.

The Golden Eagles are also 8-16 on the season. Three Golden Eagles finished the night in double figures led by Caylin Arnold with 19 points. Darian Hale added 15 points and Madison Hamm finished with 10 points. Arnold led the Golden Eagles in rebounding with seven.

The Lady Knights will go on the road on Friday and Saturday for two important Region IX Division II games. They play Central Community College in Columbus on Friday at 5:30 pm and then go to Beatrice on Saturday to play Southeast Community College at 2 pm.

The Lady Knights return home for their final regular season game against McCook on Feb 21. The time has changed to a 7:30 tip-off.

Following the game there will be a retirement reception for Lady Knights Coach Richard Thurin.

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team announce the signing of Jade Max from Ogallala to play for the NPCC Lady Knights in the 2017 season.

Max, a defensive specialist played at Ogallala High School coached by Steve Morgan.

In her senior season, Max played in 87 sets and had 138 defensive digs, four assists and 28 service aces. She had a 90.1 serving percentage.

Lady Knight Head Coach Alexa McCall said ‘Jade comes from a solid program and we are excited to see what she can do to help us.”

Max is the seventh signing for the Lady Knights 2017 season. Carly Moss from Loveland, Colo., Carlie Wytulka from Nucla, Colo., Luisa Hernandez from Yuma, Colo., Shaylee Johnson from Fleming, Colo., Jordyn Simpson from North Platte, and Taylin McNair from Imperial are the other signees.
