HIGHLIGHTS: Lady Knights end five game skid with 60-58 win over Central

NPCC Knights on ESPNNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team defeated the Central Community College Lady Raiders in an important Region IX Division II matchup 60-58 on Friday night, on scout night.

The Lady Raiders shot a free throw to take a 1-0 lead. It was the only lead they would enjoy all night as the Lady Knights started out the game with three-pointers by Allison Tichy, Caroline Delatour, and Mickenzie Brennan to give the Lady Knights a 9-1 lead. They increased their lead to 16-3 for their biggest lead in the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Knights held a 18-9 lead.

In the second quarter, the Lady Knights started out on a 9-3 run to push their lead to 15 at 27-12. The Lady Raiders went on a 12-5 run to cut the Lady Knights lead to eight at halftime at32-24.

The Lady Knights maintained their lead throughout the third quarter, stretching it out to 16 at 48-32 on a three-pointer by Delatour. At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Knights held a 52-39 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Raiders outscored the Lady Knights 26-12shooting six of 16 from the field and a perfect seven for seven from the free throw line to climb back in to the game. The Lady Knights in the same time frame made two of 12 shots and four for 13 from the free throw line.

With the win, the Lady Knights improved to 6-12 on the season, evened up their Region IX Division II record to 1-1, and are 1-2 in Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference play.

Thomesha Wilson finished with 13 points to lead the Lady Knights and Jessica Lovitt added 10 points. Both Wilson and Lovitt each had six rebounds to lead the Lady Knights.

The Lady Raiders, now 8-10 on the season, 0-1 in Region IX Division II play, and 1-2 in the NCCAC, had one person in double figures. Payton Blanke led all scorers with 18 points. Blanke also added seven rebounds to lead the Lady Raiders.

The Lady Knights will next be in action on Sunday Jan 29, when they host Doane College Junior Varsity.

Knights host Central CC in Kevin O’Connor’s 1000th game as NPCC head coach

NPCC Knights on ESPNNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights and Lady Knights basketball teams will host the Central Community College Raiders on Friday, Jan 27 at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

The night is designated as “scout night”. All scouts, both boy and girl scouts, and their leaders will be admitted free by wearing their scouting uniform.

The women’s game will be a Region IX Division II contest.

The Lady Raiders are 8-9 on the season and have not played a Region IX Division II game yet. They are averaging 78.4 points per game and allowing 84.1 ppg. Teisha Snyder leads the Lady Raiders in scoring at 21.9 ppg. That scoring average leads Region IX Division II. Snyder also leads the Lady Raiders in rebounding with 7.7 rebounds per game. Keyia Parker is the only other Lady Raider averaging in double figures, averaging 11.2 ppg.

The Lady Knights are 5-12 on the season and 0-1 in Region IX Division II. The Lady Knights are averaging 61.5 ppg and allow 66.6 ppg to their opponents. Thomesha Wilson is second in Region IX Division II in scoring behind Snyder at 13.2 ppg. Wilson does lead Region IX Division II in rebounding at 8.4 rebounds per game.

The men’s game does not count toward Region IX standings but it is a Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference game. The men’s game is also Knights Head Coach Kevin O’Connor’s 1000th game as the Knights head coach.

The Raiders are 12-8 on the season. They are 0-2 in the NCCAC, losing to McCook Community College twice on the season. The Raiders like to shoot from the perimeter. 41.6 percent of their shots come from behind the three-point line. They are making 39.4 of their three-point shots. The Raiders are averaging 88.4 ppg and allowing 86.4 ppg. The Raiders have five players averaging in double figures, led by Logan Fleming at 18.5 ppg. Marco Fabietti is second on the team at 16.0 ppg. Jerome Dixon is averaging 14.7, Ruben Fuamba is averaging 12.5 and Luke Cadzow is averaging 10.0 ppg. Fuamba is averaging 10.4 rebounds per game to lead the Raiders.

The Knights are 12-5 on the season and 2-0 in the NCCAC, defeating both McCook and Southeast Community College. The Knights lead the Region IX South Sub-Region and sixth in the nation in field goal percentage at 53.4 percent. The Knights average 89 points per game and allow 71.6 ppg. The Knights also have five players averaging in double figures. Diontae Champion leads the Knights at 16.2 ppg, followed by Mike Amius at 13.1 ppg. Samuel Kearns and Godfrey Rolle are each averaging 12.1 ppg. Victor Lewis is the fifth Knight in double figures averaging 11.0 ppg. Amius leads the Knights in rebounding at 6.2 rpg.

Tip-offs for the games are at 5:30 pm CST for the women, and the men at 7:30 pm CST.

HIGHLIGHTS: Knights end Region IX slide with 78-66 win at McCook

NPCC Knights on ESPNMcCook – The North Platte Community College Knights defeated the McCook Community College Indians Wednesday 78-66 in a Region IX South Sub-Region contest.

The first part of the game in the first six minutes had five lead changes with the biggest point differential being three points. The Knights were leading 9-6 when the Indians went on a 14-3 run to take their biggest lead of the night at 20-12. They also led by the same margin at 25-17.

The Knights went on a run of their own, outscoring the Indians 16-6 to take a 33-31 lead. The Indians tied the score on a putback by Lewis Diankulu to go into halftime with a 33-33 score.

In the first half, the Indians shot six for 17 from behind the arc for 35.7 percent. The Knights made only one of eight from behind the arc. During the second half the tides turned and the Knights made three of seven three-pointers while the Indians shot nine and made two.

In the second half the Knights took the lead for good at 39-37. Samuel Kearns hit a three-pointer to give the Knights their biggest lead of the game at 71-58.

The Knights are now 12-5 on the season and 3-5 in the South Sub-Region. Mike Amius led the Knights in scoring with 18 points. Kearns finished with 17 points. Two other Knights finished the game in double figures with Godfrey Rolle scoring 13 points and Diontae Champion added 10 points.
In the rebounding category, the Knights out-rebounded the Indians 46-39 in the game. Buom Dubuol led the Knights with 13 rebounds and Amius completed the double-double with 11 rebounds.

The Indians, now 10-8 on the season and 2-6 in the South Sub-Region, had four players in double figures led by Brody Sharkey with 15 points. Diankulu added 14 points. D’Von Moore finished with 12 points and Torrey Mayo had 11 points. Diankulu led the Indians in rebounding with eight rebounds.

The Knights are next in action on Friday, when they host Central Community College at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

The game will be Knights Head Coach Kevin O’Connor’ 1000th game coaching the Knights. It will also be scouting night.

HIGHLIGHTS: McCook women run away from Lady Knights in second half

NPCC Knights on ESPNMcCook – The McCook Community College Lady Indians used a strong third quarter to defeat the North Platte Community College Lady Knights Wednesday night 79-52.

The Knights started out the game with a 10-3 lead to fuel a 19-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Lady Indians worked their way back to take a 22-21 lead on an Atunuwa Eva putback. They increased their lead to 25-21 on a three-pointer by Sydney Taubenheim.

The Lady Knights regained the lead at 27-25 on a pair of three-pointers by Allison Tichy.

The score was tied at 30 points at halftime.

In the Third quarter, the Lady Knights had trouble penetrating into the lane. The Lady Indians allowed only eight points, while scoring 22 points in the third quarter to take a 52-38 lead at the end of the third quarter.L

The Lady Indians continued their dominating play in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Knights at almost a two to one clip 27-14 to give the Lady Indians the win.

The Lady Knights are now 5-12 on the season and 0-2 in the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference. Tichy led the Lady Knights with 14 points. Two other Lady Knights finished in double figures, Jessica Lovitt had 12 points and Thomesha Wilson added 10 points. Wilson also recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds.

The Lady Indians are now 11-9 and 3-1 in the NCCAC. A’leah Davis led all scorers with 22 points for the Lady Indians. Eva added 15 points and Colby Cox had 10 points. Erica Peet had nine rebounds to lead the Lady Indians.

The Lady Knights are next in action on Friday, when they host Central Community College at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

It will be scouting night.

Knights and Indians renew Mid-Plains hoops rivalry on Wednesday night

NPCC Knights on ESPNNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights and Knights basketball teams will travel to McCook to play the McCook Community College Lady Indians and Indians on Wednesday, Jan 25 at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.

Both games are Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference games. Also, the men’s game is a Region IX South Sub-Region contest.

The Lady Indians are 10-9 overall and are 2-1 in the NCCAC. They are averaging 72.3 points per game and allowing 68.1 ppg on the season.

Three Lady Indians are averaging double figures in scoring led by A’Leah Davis and Kaylea Watson, who are each averaging 11.4 ppg. The third Lady Indian to average in double figures is Earica Peet at 10.5 ppg. Peet also leads the Lady Indians in rebounding at 5.2 rebounds per game.

The Lady Knights are 5-11 on the season and 0-1 in NCCAC play. The Lady Knights are averaging 62.1 ppg and allowing 65.9 ppg.

Thomesha Wilson is the only Lady Knight averaging in double figures at 13.4 ppg. Wilson also leads the team in rebounding at 8.3 rpg and has four double-double games on the season.

On the men’s side, the Indians are 10-7 overall, 2-5 in Region IX South Sub-Region, and 3-0 in NCCAC play. The Indians are averaging 88.9 ppg and allowing 84.4 ppg.

The Indians have the two leading scorers in the South Sub-Region. D’Von Moore is averaging 21.3 ppg and Lewis Dinkulu at 18.8 ppg. Two other Indians are averaging in double figures: Dralan Perkins at 17.7 ppg and Brody Sharkey at 13.8 ppg. Diankulu is averaging a double-double with 10.8 rpg.

The Knights are 11-5 overall, 2-5 in the South Sub-Region, and 1-0 in the NCCAC. The Knights are averaging 89.7 ppg and allowing 72.2 ppg.

Five Knights are averaging in double figures led by Diontae Champion at 16.6 ppg. Mike Amius is next at 12.8 ppg. Godfrey Rolle is third at 12.0 ppg. Samuel Kearns at 11.8 ppg and Victor Lewis at 11.0 ppg are the other two. Amius leads the Knights in rebounding at 5.9 rpg.

MPCC Rodeo Team to benefit from banquet

MPCC Rodeo LogoTickets are on sale now for the fourth annual Mid-Plains Community College Rodeo Team Banquet. The event will be Feb. 4 at the Holiday Inn Express in North Platte.

It’s sponsored by the Wranglers, the official booster club of the MPCC Rodeo Team.

Money raised will be used to fund scholarships for team members and to help cover the team’s travel and general operating expenses.

The banquet will begin with a social hour and silent auction at 5:30 p.m., followed by supper and a live auction at 7 p.m. Prime rib and Rocky Mountain oysters will be served.

Dustin Elliott, MPCC Rodeo Team rough stock coach, will provide a recap of the 2016-17 rodeo season thus far and talk about the team’s goals for the future. All of the athletes will be introduced, and scholarship recipients will be recognized.

“It’s the one opportunity every year where people can come meet and visit with the athletes and learn about all their accomplishments first-hand,” said Elliott.
