Trinidad State sends the NPCC Knights to third straight Region IX loss

NPCC Knights LogoTrinidad, Colo. – The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team dropped their second consecutive game to Region IX South Sub-Region opponent, losing to the Trinidad State Junior College Trojans in Trinidad, Colo., Saturday afternoon 86-70.

The Knights started the game in a cold spell, hitting eight of 20 field goals, compared to the Trojans, who shot 46.4 percent, making 13 of 28 field goals. The Knights were also scoreless in the first half from behind the arc. The Trojans connected on five of 11 at three-point range to jump out to a 34-27 halftime lead.

In the second half the Knights improved on their shooting hitting 15 of 31 field goals for 48.4 percent and making three of six from three-point range.
The Trojans, also improved on their shooting, making 14 of 22 field goals, which is 63.6 percent including six three-pointers.

Another key to the Trojans victory was the rebounding. The Trojans grabbed 42 total rebounds compared to the Knights 21 rebounds.

The Knights, now 11-5 and 2-5 in South Sub-Region play were led in scoring by Samuel Kearns with 13 points. Godfrey Rolle was next in scoring at 12 points. David Niklasson finished with 11 points and Victor Lewis chipped in 10 points. Lewis led the Knights in rebounding with five rebounds.

The Trojans are 10-7 on the season and 4-3 in Region IX South Sub-Region play. Five Trojans scored in double figures, led by Brandon Newman and Malik Hart, who each scored 18 points. Karamoko Cisse and Tykeem Anderson finished with 12 points a piece and Job Alexander added 11 points. Cisse had eight rebounds to lead the Trojans.

The Knights are next in action on Wednesday, January 25, when the travel to play McCook Community College, as part of a men’s–women’s doubleheader.

Tip-off for the men is at 7:30 pm CST. The women’s game will tip at 5:30 pm CST.

Knights downed 78-75 on Otero buzzer-beater in La Junta

NPCC Knights LogoThe North Platte Community College Knights basketball team lost to the Otero Junior College Rattlers on a buzzer-beater 78-75 in La Junta, Colo., in a Region IX South Sub-Region contest on Friday night.

The score was tied at halftime at 36-36. The Knights scored the first five points in the second half and held a 41-36 lead. The Rattlers answered back and held a 74-72 lead with under a minute to go. The Rattler’s Jervae Robinson was sent to the free throw line and made the first free throw to make the score 75-72. Robinson missed the second free throw and NPCC’s Victor Lewis drove the length of the court and hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 75. After the timeout, the Knights put on a press on the inbound play. The pass was tipped and ended up in the hands of Robinson. Robinson made a three-point desperation shot to give the Rattlers the win.

The Rattlers are 13-4 on the season and 4-3 in Region IX South Sub-Region play. Robinson finished with 22 points to lead the Rattlers. Two other Rattlers scored in double figures: Jordan Jones added 16 points and Andre Arissol had 13 points. Chudler Bile and Charles Gavin each finished with eight rebounds to lead the Rattlers.

The Knights are 11-4 on the season and 2-4 in Region IX South Sub-Region play. Lewis led the Knights with 22 points. Godfrey Rolle and David Niklasson each added 11 points and Samuel Kearns had 10 points. The Knights leading scorer Diontae Champion was held to nine points but led the Knights with seven rebounds.

The Knights continue their road swing tomorrow when they play Trinidad State Junior College. Tip-off is at 3 pm CST.

NPCC Lady Knights fall 91-41 at Northeast CC

NPCC Knights LogoThe North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team dropped a non-conference game to the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks on Friday evening 91-41.

The Lady Hawks started off by jumping out to a 28-7 lead at the end the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Lady Knights were outscored 22-9 to give the Lady Hawks a 50-16 halftime lead.

The Lady Hawks continued their dominance in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Knights 21-11. The Lady Hawks held a 71-27 lead at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Hawks continued to add to their lead outscoring the Lady Knights 20-14.

The Lady Knights are now 5-11 on the season and are on a four game losing streak. Jessica Lovitt led the Lady Knights in scoring with 13 points. Thomesha Wilson added 10 points and had a double-double with 13 rebounds.

The Lady Hawks are 18-1 on the season and have won 17 straight games. Mykala Baylor led the Lady Hawks with a game high 24 points, scoring 20 points in the first half. Jerrica Neal added 12 points and Bianca McDonald finished with 10 points. Savannah Au added eight rebounds for the Lady Hawks.

The Lady Knights are in action next when they travel to McCook on Wednesday, January 25 to play the McCook Community College Lady Indians. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm CST.

NPCC Lady Knights travel to Northeast on Friday

NPCC Knights LogoNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team will travel to Norfolk on Friday, Jan. 20 to face the Northeast Community College Lady Hawks.

Tip-off is scheduled for 5 pm CST.

The Lady Hawks are 17-1 on the season and on a 16 game winning streak. The Lady Hawks are averaging 87.4 points per game, while allowing 50.9 ppg.

The Lady Hawks have four players averaging in double figures led by Maddie Egr at 14.6 ppg. Next is Mykala Baker at 13.0 ppg, Cynthia Jorge at 11.8 ppg and Aida Santana at 10.3 are the other two Lady Hawks in double figures. Mykala Baylor leads the Lady Hawks in rebounding at 7.4 rebounds per game.

The Lady Knights are 5-10 on the season. They are averaging 63.5 ppg and allowing 64.2 ppg.

Thomesha Wilson is the only Lady Knight averaging in double figures at 13.6 ppg. Allison Tichy is next on the Lady Knights at 9.9 ppg. Wilson leads the Lady Knights in rebounding at 8.0 rpg.

NPCC Knights travel to Otero and Trinidad State

NPCC Knights LogoNorth Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights basketball team will travel to Colorado this weekend to face Region IX South Sub-Region opponents Otero Junior College and Trinidad State Junior College.

On Friday, January 20, the Knights will play the Otero Junior College Rattlers in La Junta, Colo. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 pm CST.

The Rattlers, who are the defending South Sub-Region champions, are 12-4 on the season and 3-3 in South Sub-Region play. The Rattlers are averaging 88.3 points per game, while allowing 69.3 ppg.

The Rattlers have three players averaging in double figures led by Michael Sparks at 15.2 ppg. Next on the Rattlers is Jordan Jones at 13.4 ppg and then Jervae Robinson at 12.5 ppg. Charles Green leads the Rattlers in rebounding at 6.2 rebounds per game.

On Saturday, the Knights will travel to Trinidad, Colo., and play the Trinidad State Junior College Trojans at 3 pm CST.

The Trojans are 8-7 on the season and 2-3 in Region IX South Sub-Region play. They have lost their last four games. The Trojans are averaging 82.7 ppg and giving up 77.5 ppg.

Three Trojans are averaging in double figures led by Tykeem Anderson at 13.9 ppg. Karamoko Cisse is averaging 11.9 ppg and Brandon Newman is at 11.0 ppg. Cisse is averaging 6.1 rpg to lead the Trojans.

The Knights are 11-3 on the season and 2-3 in Region IX South Sub-Region play. They are averaging 92.1 ppg and allowing 73.7 ppg.

Diontae Champion is one of five Knights averaging in double figures at 17.6 ppg. Mike Amius is next on the Knights at 13.6 ppg, followed by Godfrey Rolle at 12.1 ppg, Samuel Kearns at 11.8 ppg, and Victor Lewis at 10.3 ppg. Amius leads the Knights in rebounding at 6.3 rpg.

There will be no radio broadcast for these two games.
