Hershey Panthers Sports Update – 12/1/16
NPCC Knights basketball improves to 7-0 with 87-74 win over Northwest Kansas Tech
North Platte – The North Platte Community College jumped out to a 19-1 lead on their way to a 87-74 victory over the Northwest Kansas Technical College Mavericks at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on Wednesday night on ‘Special Olympics’ night.
Several of the North Platte area Special Olympians were in attendance at the game.
The Knights did not allow a field goal by the Mavericks for nearly the first half of the contest. When the Mavericks did make their first field goal, the Knights enjoyed a 21-7 lead.
The Knights led at halftime 42-25.
The Mavericks were able to crawl back into the game to bring it within four at 51-47 after a three-pointer by Eddie Reese.
The Knights continued their hot streak from the free throw line, making 21 of 23 shots from the line for the game.
The Knights, now 7-0 on the season were led in scoring by Diontae Champion, who finished with 20 points. Champion finished with six field goals, including a three-pointer and a perfect seven for seven from the free throw line. Champion also finished with eight rebounds to lead the Knights.
Also scoring in double figures for the Knights was Mike Amius, who went eight for eight from the field for 18 points, and Godfrey Rolle, who finished with 14 points.
The Mavericks, now 6-6 on the season and on a five game losing streak, were led in scoring by Eeese with 20 points, including three 3-pointers. Osa Wilson finished with 15 points to be the only other Maverick in double figures. Wilson also led the Mavericks with seven rebounds.
The Knights will tip-off Region IX South Division action when they host Northeastern Junior College on December 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm, following the women’s game.

NPCC Lady Knights Basketball Falls to Northwest Kansas Tech 91-72
North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team fell to the Northwest Kansas Technical College Lady Mavericks 91-72 on Wednesday night at the McDonald Belton Gymnasium.
The Lady Knights jumped out to a 7-5 lead on a three-pointer by Mickenzie Brennan. The Lady Mavericks took the lead for good on the next possession on a three-pointer by Keke Barber. The Lady Mavericks held a 22-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Lady Knights came within three at 28-25 on a three-pointer by Caroline Delatour. The Lady Mavericks finished out the half outscoring the Lady Knights 13-8 to take a 41-33 halftime lead.
The third quarter began with the Lady Mavericks 13-3 run to take a 54-36 lead. The Lady Knights pulled within seven on good shooting by Victoria Brown and inside play of Thomesha Wilson. The Lady Mavericks ended the third quarter with a 67-57 lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Mavericks opened up the game by going on a 14-9 run to give them their largest lead at 81-66.
The Lady Knights, now 2-6 on the season, were led by Thomesha Wilson. Wilson had 18 points and seven rebounds. Two other Lady Knights finished in double figures. Jessica Lovitt finished with 14 points and Allison Tichy finished with 11 points.
The Lady Mavericks, now 12-1, were led in scoring by Tran Brown who finished with a game high 23 points. KeKe Barber scored 20 points. Dejoure Borlan had 12 points and Juliet James had 11 points. James also had 11 rebounds to complete the double-double for the Lady Mavericks.
The Lady Knights will travel to the eastern part of the state this weekend when they face Midland University Junior Varsity on December 2 and Doane College Junior Varsity on December 3.

NPCC Basketball Teams Host Northwest Kansas Tech
North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights and Knights basketball teams will host the Northwest Kansas Technical College Mavericks on Wednesday, November 30 at the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium. Tip-off for the women’s game is at 5 pm, with the men’s game following.
The game has been designated as “Special Olympics” night. Area special olympians and coaches are invited to attend the games and will be admitted free into the game.
The Lady Knights are 2-5 on the season. Thomesha Wilson leads the Lady Knights in scoring with 13.2 points per game. Mickenzie Brennan is second with 9.1 ppg. Wilson also leads in rebounding with 7.3 rebounds per game.
The Lady Mavericks are 11-1 on the season with their only loss coming to McCook Community College, 90-72. The Lady Mavericks are averaging 85.3 ppg and giving up 50.3 ppg. Five Lady Mavericks are averaging in double figures led by Tran Brown at 16.1 ppg. A’nikeyawna Barber is second at 11.7 ppg, followed by Zoi Thompson at 11.5 ppg. Arion Jackson is averaging 11.1 ppg and Juliet James is at 10.6 ppg. James leads the Lady Mavericks in rebounding at 10.9 rpg.
On the men’s side, the Knights are 6-0 and averaging 106.5 ppg and allowing 67.0 ppg. Diontae Champion is one of five Knights averaging in double figures at 17.3 ppg. The others are Mike Amius at 15.7 ppg; Godfrey Rolle at 14.7 ppg; Jack Williams at 13.7 ppg; and David Niklasson at 12.2 ppg. Williams leads the Knights in rebounding at 5.7 rpg.
The Mavericks are 6-5 on the season and on a four game losing streak. They are averaging 82.6 ppg and allowing 69.4 ppg. Eddie Reese is one of two Mavericks averaging in double figures at 16.5 ppg. The other is Osa Wilson at 11.4 ppg. Toby Van Ry leads the Mavericks in rebounding at 7.8 rpg.

NPCC Lady Knights Volleyball Signs Chase County’s McNair

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team has announced the signing of Taylin McNair from Imperial for the 2017 season.

NPCC Knights Softball Signs Eight

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Knights softball team announced the signing of eight new players for the 2017-18 season.
The recruits include Mikayla Gibson, Ally Oxborrow, Kamree Christensen, and Kenlee Wanlass from Utah; Ashlynn Krueger and Darkia Brown from Colorado; Janessa Dunton from Nevada; and Hailey Wilkins from Texas. Continue reading “NPCC Knights Softball Signs Eight”
NPCC Volleyball Signs Simpson

North Platte – The North Platte Community College Lady Knights volleyball team has signed North Platte High School Bulldog senior Jordynn Simpson to a national letter of intent to play volleyball for the 2017 season.
Simpson is the daughter of Stuart and Lisa Simpson of North Platte.
The 5’ 6” senior libero had an injury shortened season. Simpson also played volleyball for the Flatrock Volleyball club team.
Simpson said, “I chose North Platte because I wanted to be closer to home and family/friends. North Platte has a really good volleyball program and improves every year. I like the program and the coaches.”
Lady Knight Head Coach Alexa McCall said, “We are excited to have Jordynn join our program. She is a great kid as well as a solid player. I think she will fit right in and be an impact player.”
Simpson is the Lady Knights first signee for the 2017 season.
