Viaero Wireless Extends Partnership with Storm

Tri-City-StormKEARNEY, Neb. – The Tri-City Storm and Viaero Wireless are proud to announce they have agreed to an extension on the presenting sponsorship rights for Storm Hockey.

Viaero originally signed on in 2007 and six years later, they still believe in Storm Hockey.

“We are proud to announce the recent launch of our new 4G network in Kearney,” said Lisa Murray, Vice President of Marketing. The excitement and speed of Storm hockey provides us the perfect partnership to promote the speed and value of our new 4G network.”

The presenting sponsorship is separate from the Event Center naming rights, which Viaero has been in control of since 2009 and will continue to hold through the 2015-16 season.

“We’re excited to reach this extension with Viaero Wireless,” said Tri-City Storm President Greg Shea. “It’s been a great process to get to this point. This only happens when you have tremendous synergy with a corporate partner and you have a certain level of checks and balances or expectations that are constantly being met by both parties.

“This is the pinnacle of sponsorship in our industry and to have a partner like Viaero in a small market setting like Kearney and the Tri-Cities, says a lot about both products.”

The presenting sponsorship agreement includes exposure with in-arena signage, big screen content, radio broadcast elements and marketing content.

In addition, Viaero will introduce a new in-game contest called the 4G Slapshot Challenge, bringing fans on the ice and giving prizes to those who have the fastest shot each game.

Terms and conditions of the agreement will not be disclosed.

Viaero Wireless is headquartered in Morgan, Colo. and has been in business since 1991 providing wireless service throughout the United States.

To celebrate a new season of Storm hockey, Viaero Wireless is presenting a free pregame barbeque to the first 2,000 fans in attendance and a fireworks show on Saturday night, the opening night of the 2013-14 season.

Arena Doesn’t Plan More Husker Gameday Parties

Pinnacle-Bank-ArenaLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Pinnacle Bank Arena has stopped scheduling free broadcasts of Nebraska football games in part because of complaints from bar owners.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/1h2fbhP ) Wednesday that arena manager Tom Lorenz says complaints from local bar owners about lost business aren’t the only reason no more game broadcasts are scheduled. He added, though, that “nothing happens in a vacuum.”

The arena had invited people to watch games for free on giant scoreboard video screens.

Thousands watched Nebraska play Wyoming and Southern Miss.

Lorenz says rumors that the arena made about $25,000 from concession sales at each of the gameday parties were “in the ball park.”

BIG TEN Statement on NCAA Modification of Penn State Sanctions

Penn State Nittany Lions LogoPark Ridge, Ill. – Earlier today the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) held a teleconference to announce a modification to the sanctions set forth in the Consent Decree that the NCAA entered into with Penn State on July 23, 2012.

The NCAA’s decision to modify the Consent Decree was based strongly on the recommendations of Senator George Mitchell who has been serving since August 2012 as the independent Athletics Integrity Monitor responsible for overseeing Penn State’s implementation of the reforms set forth in the Athletics Integrity Agreement (AIA).  The AIA was entered into on August 29, 2012 by the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference and Penn State as one of the requirements of the Consent Decree.

As a party to the AIA, the Big Ten, through its Council of Presidents and Chancellors (COPC), met with Senator Mitchell on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 and received his report on Penn State’s progress in complying with the reform requirements of the AIA.  Senator Mitchell’s briefing included a recommendation to modify the NCAA sanctions in the Consent Decree related to scholarships based on the significant progress that Penn State has made to date in its compliance and reform efforts.  He made no other recommendations to modify any other sanctions at this time.

“On the basis of Senator Mitchell’s briefing, the COPC reached consensus to support his recommendation to the NCAA,” said COPC Chair and Iowa President, Sally Mason.  “We support the NCAA’s announcement today acting on that recommendation.”

Johnson Receives Third Award of Season; Huskers Have won Four Straight

huskersoccerLincoln – Nebraska soccer freshman forward Jaycie Johnson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week as announced by the Conference office on Monday. Johnson earned the award after notching the lone tally in the 1-0 conference opener against Michigan State and the go-ahead score in the 79th minute of Sunday’s exciting 2-1 victory over No. 14 Denver.

Johnson, the Lake Winnebago, Mo. native, has currently scored in four straight matches amassing seven goals in nine contests, including three-consecutive game-winners. Johnson leads the Huskers and all freshman in the conference with goals, while sitting tied for third overall in the league.
