WASHINGTON (AP) — Michael Cuddyer homered in his first at-bat to extend the major league’s longest hitting streak this season to 21 games — and the Colorado Rockies hung on to beat the Washington Nationals 7-6 Sunday.

Cuddyer went 3 for 4 with four RBIs to pass St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese for the year’s best batting run, and the Rockies right fielder is now just two games shy of matching the franchise’s best streak. Dante Bichette, now the team’s hitting coach, had hits in 23 consecutive games in 1995.

Cuddyer also extended his Colorado record for consecutive games reaching base to 40.

Jorge De La Rosa (8-4) allowed seven hits in six innings, trading both his earned runs for outs in the bottom of the fourth.

Denver Nuggets Introduce Tim Connelly as New GM

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — New Denver Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly says re-signing free agent shooting guard Andre Igoudala is his No. 1 priority.

Connelly was formally introduced on Thursday by team president Josh Kroenke.

Connelly tells reporters that “the last guy we talked to before coming in for this press conference was Andre. He’s such a pro that he’s out there (on the court) working out.”

The 36-year-old Connelly comes to the Nuggets from New Orleans, where he served as assistant general manager under Dell Demps. He replaces NBA Executive of the Year Masai Ujiri, who took the GM job with the Toronto Raptors last week.

Finding a replacement for coach George Karl, who was let go on June 6, will be another top priority for Connelly and Kroenke.

The Nuggets interviewed former Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins on Wednesday and have also interviewed Indiana Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw, but have not set a specific deadline for hiring a coach.

The Broncos have injury issues on their offensive line, with guard Chris Kuper (ankle) and tackle Ryan Clady (shoulder) still recovering from surgery. Backup Manny Ramirez took most of the snaps at center during Denver’s offseason practices, but the Broncos decided to bring back Koppen, whose teams have gone 108-28 in games he has started.
