Huskers Back to .500 After Sweeping Boilermakers

For the first time since 2008, the Husker baseball team swept a road conference series. A 12-2 win at Purdue on Sunday afternoon gave the Big Red three wins in three over the Boilermakers in West Lafayette. Pat Kelly led the Husker hit parade with four of Nebraska’s 16 hits on the day. He also drove in a pair of runs, as did Mike Pritchard, who ran his hitting streak to 19 games. Kyle Kubat worked five innings on the mound for his second win in as many starts. The Huskers scored 32 runs and banged out 41 hits, while taking advantage of 10 Boilermaker errors in the series. Blown Save Snaps Rockies Win Streak (LISTEN LIVE TONIGHT on ESPN Radio 1410)

After opening the season with eight consecutive home wins, the Colorado Rockies were finally tripped up on their home turf. A ninth-inning rally by the Arizona Diamondbacks gave them a 5-4 win over the Rockies, who saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end. Troy Tulowitzki’s sixth homer of the season gave the Rockies a 4-2 lead in the sixth. But the D-Backs got a run in the eighth and then scored two in the ninth on an RBI groundout and a sac fly to steal the game. The Rockies finish their home stand 5-1 and are 13-5 overall. They head out on the road tonight to start a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves, who are tied with the Rockies for the best record in the National League. ESPN Radio 1410 has all the action, with the pregame show at 7:05 and first pitch at 7:40.

Husker Softball Fails To Complete Sweep at Purdue

The 18th-ranked Husker softball team was unable to finish off a sweep on Sunday, falling to Purdue 6-5. After taking the first two games of the series in a doubleheader on Saturday, the Huskers fell behind 5-1 after one inning and were unable to mount a comeback due in large part to leaving 10 runners on base. Tatum Edwards, Gabby Banda and Jordan Bettiol each had two hits in the loss. Nebraska falls to 12-4 in the Big Ten and 34-10 overall. They host Creighton Wednesday night.

Brion Carnes to Leave Husker Football Program

Carnes was originally recruited as a quarterback and was number two on the depth chart in 2011, but sank down the depth chart last season and requested a position switch. He played in just one game in 2012. Bo Pelini confirmed Carnes’ intent to transfer over the weekend. He said he believes Carnes is the only current Husker who will depart.

Rockies Win Sixth Straight (LISTEN LIVE on ESPN Radio 1410)

The weather was cold, but the Colorado Rockies’ bats were red hot late in an 11-3 win over the New York Mets at Coors Field. It was 28 degrees in Denver at first pitch, tying the lowest recorded temperature for a ballgame in the city’s big league history. That didn’t deter the Rockies, who came back from an early deficit and took the lead for good on Troy Tulowitzki’s RBI single in the sixth inning. Wilin Rosario and Todd Helton drove in two runs apiece in a six-run seventh inning, and Tulowitzki and Dexter Fowler each homered in the eighth. Jon Garland worked seven strong innings on the mound for his second win. The Rockies have won six games in a row. Tonight they welcome the Arizona Diamondbacks to Denver for the start of a three-game series. ESPN Radio 1410 has the action, with pregame coverage at 7:05 and first pitch at 7:40.
