The Colorado Rockies earned a 9-1 win over the Texas Rangers in Cactus League action yesterday. Troy Tulowitzki knocked home two runs for the Rockies in his second appearance of the spring. A five-run eighth inning boosted the Rockies to the victory. Third baseman Nolan Arenado, considered the Rockies top position player prospect, belted a home-run as part of that rally, as did minor league infielder Charlie Culberson. The Rockies face the Chicago Cubs this afternoon.

Irish Play for State Trip Tonight (LISTEN LIVE on ESPN Radio 1410)
The St. Patrick’s Irish can clinch a third straight trip to the Class C2 boys basketball tournament tonight. A win over Dundy County-Stratton on Saturday gave the Irish a C2-11 subdistrict title and earned them a berth in the C2-6 district championship game. Tonight, the Irish face Hemingford in Sidney with a state berth at stake. The Irish are 21-3 overall and winners of six straight games. The Hemingford Bobcats are 19-5, and playing in their first district final since 2001. ESPN Radio 1410 will have all the action, with pregame coverage at 7:15 and the tipoff at 7:30.
Dawgs Hold Out Hope For Wild Card
The North Platte Bulldogs will be watching the scoreboard tonight. Despite their loss to Papio South in the first round of the A6 district on Saturday, the Dawgs’ state tourney dreams are still alive. If the top five seeds in Class A all win their districts tonight, the door is open for the Dawgs to earn the Wild Card spot. Omaha Central, Omaha South, Papillion-La Vista, Omaha Benson and Millard West all must win for North Platte to make their first trip to state since 2004.
Husker Women Win Ninth Straight
It’s now nine wins in a row for the Husker women’s basketball team. The 24th-ranked Huskers powered past Iowa 66-46 at the Devaney Center yesterday afternoon. Nebraska led most of the way and outscored the Hawkeyes 28-10 over the final 13 minutes and 20 seconds to put the game on ice. Freshman guard Rachel Theriot led the way for the Big Red with a career high 19 points. Jordan Hooper and Lindsay Moore joined Theriot in double figures, each scoring 10 points. Moore stuffed the stat sheet in other departments as well, chipping in eight assists and seven rebounds. The Huskers are now 21-6 overall and 11-3 in the Big Ten. They wrap up the road portion of their Big Ten regular season schedule Thursday night, when they trek to Madison to face Wisconsin.
Rockies Fall to D-Backs in Second Spring Training Game
A late rally fell short for the Colorado Rockies, who dropped to 1-1 in Cactus League play with an 8-6 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks in Scottsdale, Arizona yesterday. Starting pitcher Jeff Francis worked two scoreless innings, but the Rockies fell behind 8-0 in the middle frames. Top outfield prospects Corey Dickerson and Kyle Parker keyed the comeback effort with 2 RBI each. The Rockies take on the Texas Rangers this afternoon.
Huskers Drop to 0-7 After Sweep at Texas
The Husker baseball team can’t buy a victory. They were shut out for the second time in the young 2013 season on Sunday, falling to Texas 2-0. That wrapped up a three-game sweep for the Longhorns and dropped the Huskers to 0-7 on the season. It’s the worst start for Nebraska in non-conference play since an 0-8 start back in 1942. The Huskers take to their home field for the first time this season this weekend, hosting a three-game series against New Mexico.
Irish, Eagles, Sailors Gunning For Girls State Berths Tonight
Tickets to state will be punched for girls basketball teams in the C and D classes tonight, and three Lincoln County teams are hoping they can earn their way to the big dance. In the C2-6 district championship, St. Patrick’s is looking for their second straight trip to state. They take on Bridgeport in Chappell. ESPN Radio 1410 will have the action, with pregame coverage at 7:15 and the tipoff at 7:30. The Sutherland Lady Sailors are hoping to make a second state trip in three years. They take on Crawford in the D1-6 district final in Bayard. And the Brady Lady Eagles are trying to get to Lincoln for the third time in the last four years. They face Wauneta-Palisade in the D2-5 final in Wallace. A best case scenario has four Lincoln County teams heading to state. Hershey must hope for a Wild Card entry into the Class C2 field.
Huskers Open Road Series at Texas
Still searching for their first win of the season, the Husker baseball team rekindles an old Big 12 rivalry as they open a three game series against Texas tonight. Nebraska went 0-4 in a West Coast swing last weekend. They’ll look for better luck against the 25th-ranked Longhorns, but they’ll be without starting DH Mike Pritchard, out with an oblique injury. Brandon Pierce gets the start for the Huskers on the mound. First pitch is set for 7 PM.
Nuggets Look to Even Season Series Against Wizards
The Denver Nuggets aim to make it two straight wins out of the All-Star Break tonight They’re in the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Wizards. The Nuggets are fifth in the Western Conference while the Wizards are near the bottom of the East. But the Wizards are one of only three teams to beat the Nuggets in Denver this season. They stole a 112-108 win at Pepsi Center back on January 18. Tipoff tonight is set for 6 PM.
No. 24 Huskers Rout Wolverines for Eighth Straight Win
The Husker women’s basketball team can’t stop winning. They racked up their eighth straight victory with ease last night, routing Michigan 57-39 in Ann Arbor. The 24th-ranked Huskers scored the first 21 points of the second half to put the outcome beyond doubt. Lindsey Moore scored 15 points to pace the Husker offense. Jordan Hooper contributed a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards. The Huskers are now 20-6 overall and 10-3 in the Big Ten. They host Iowa Sunday afternoon.
