Tim Miles had his first big score of the 2013 recruiting season – and it was a daily double. Miles got a pair of commitments to his Husker men’s basketball program on Saturday. Nick Fuller is a 6’7” shooting guard from Sun Prarie, Wisconsin. He spurned Minnesota, Illinois, Marquette and Creighton, among others who had offered. Nate Hawkins is a 6’5” point guard from Rowlett, Texas. Hawkins chose the Huskers over offers from Oklahoma State and Kansas State.

Huskers In London: Four Alumni Take Home Medals
If the University of Nebraska were a nation unto its own, they’d have taken home as many medals as the countries of Switzerland, Argentina, Norway and Slovakia. Husker athletes took home four medals from the 2012 London Olympics, which concluded Sunday. Former two-time national champion wrestler Jordan Burroughs brought home the lone gold for a Husker alum. Jordan Larson earned a silver as part of the US women’s volleyball team, and former Husker soccer stars Karina LeBlanc and Brittany Timko earned bronze medals with Team Canada.
Broncos Training Camp Update: Minor Injury Concern After First Game
The Denver Broncos began preparation for their second game of the preseason over the weekend. The Broncos emerged from Thursday’s 31-3 win over the Chicago Bears mostly unscathed. Fullback Chris Gronkowski, linebacker Danny Trevathan, and tackle Chris Clark all left the game with injury, and will be evaluated further today. The Broncos are gearing up for their first home game of the season, a Saturday night clash with the Seattle Seahawks, who beat Tennessee 27-17 in their preseason debut Saturday.
Olympic Update – Day Seventeen
The Games of the XXX Olympiad officially come to a close today, with the Closing Ceremony taking place at Olympic Stadium. Before the pomp and circumstance wraps up a thrilling seventeen days in London, there’s one more major coronation to be held. The US men’s basketball team takes on Spain in the widely-expected, highly-anticipated gold medal matchup. It hasn’t been a thoroughly dominant road to the gold medal game for Team USA, but when they’ve been at their best, no one has been able to compete. Also today in London, an event traditionally held on the final day of the Olympics – the men’s marathon. American Meb Keflezighi is the best hope for the first US gold in the event since Frank Shorter in Munich in 1972. After tonight, it’s so long to London, with the next Summer Olympics set for Rio de Janiero, Brazil in 2016.
Olympic Update – Day Sixteen
No female Nebraska native has ever won an Olympic gold medal. Jordan Larson will have a chance to change that history today. Larson, who hails from tiny Hooper and played for the Huskers, will start for the US women’s volleyball team as they take on Brazil in the gold medal match. The Americans toppled Brazil in four sets in pool play and are looking for their first ever gold. The US women’s basketball team is also shooting for gold today, as they take on France in the final. Tonight in prime time, don’t blink or you’ll miss Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, and the Jamaican 4×100 meter relay team in action. Bolt cruised to victory in the 100 and 200, with Blake right behind him for silver in both events. You’ll also see the men’s 5000 meter, the women’s 4×400 relay, the women’s 800 meter and the women’s high jump tonight.
Burroughs Is Golden

Former Husker and two-time NCAA National Champion wrestler Jordan Burroughs achieved his gold medal dream in London today. He draped himself in the American flag after his victory and entered the stands to hug his family, friends, and anyone else within reach.
Friday Sports Day – PGA Championship Underway
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (AP) – After a mostly calm opening day, windy conditions greeted golfers for round two of the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island.
First-round leader Carl Pettersson doesn’t tee off until this afternoon. The Swede fired a 6-under-par 66 and began the day with a one-stroke lead over a group of four golfers headed by Rory McIlroy.
Tiger Woods began the day three shots off the pace.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Jonathan Vilma has returned to federal court in New Orleans today, where a judge will hear arguments on the NFL’s motion to dismiss the Saints linebacker’s lawsuit seeking to overturn his bounty suspension.
It’s not clear when U.S. District Judge Ginger Berrigan will rule. If she doesn’t dismiss the lawsuit, she could potentially rule on Vilma’s request to be allowed to temporarily return to the Saints while the case proceeds.
Roger Goodell has suspended Vilma for the entire 2012 season. The NFL commissioner says the veteran linebacker was one of the ringleaders of a program that offered Saints defenders improper cash bonuses for injuring opponents.
Vilma, several teammates and Saints assistant head coach Joe Vitt have testified that Vilma never paid or accepted money for injuring another player.
LONDON (AP) – The IOC has formally stripped American cyclist Tyler Hamilton of his gold medal from the 2004 Athens Olympics.
The first-place prize now goes to Russian rider Viatcheslav Ekimov. American Bobby Julich will be moved up from bronze to silver, and Michael Rogers of Australia from fourth to bronze.
After years of denials, Hamilton told CBS’s “60 Minutes” last year that he had repeatedly used performance-enhancing drugs. The IOC asked for documents from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency before reallocating the medals.
