Broncos Sign Two More Draft Picks

The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with their two fourth round picks from April’s NFL Draft. Cornerback Omar Bolden, who was picked with the 101st overall selection from Arizona State, signed a four-year contract worth $2.574 million. Offensive lineman Philip Blake, who was selected seven picks later out of Baylor, signed a four-year, $2.553 million deal. These agreements leave only second-round pick Brock Osweiler and third-round pick Ronnie Hillman as Denver’s unsigned draft picks. Kicker Matt Prater is the only current Bronco who has yet to report to the team’s OTAs as the two parties work out a deal for the franchise-tagged player. Defensive tackle Ty Warren reported yesterday after he and the team agreed to restructure the final year on his contract, with Warren agreeing to take a pay cut in exchange for an enhanced bonus.

Hitchler, Miller Win Big Ten Medals of Honor

Two Husker track and field athletes were named 2012 Medal of Honor winners by the Big Ten Conference. Seniors Tyler Hitchler and Ashley Miller were two of 24 athletes to be so honored. Miller is a senior captain distance runner from Tipton, Iowa, and a two-time All-American and four-time conference champion. She has captured three Big Ten titles in her senior season, making her a four-time conference champion. Hitchler is a two-time captain and senior thrower for the Nebraska track and field team from Fremont, Neb. Rockies Soundly Beaten in Rubber Game at Arizona

The Colorado Rockies picked up right where they had left off from the night before in Arizona, combining poor starting pitching with poorer hitting in a 6-1 loss to the Diamondbacks in the rubber game of their three-game series. Starter Josh Outman lasted just three innings for the Rox, giving up five runs on seven hits. Meanwhile, one night after the Rockies struck out a season-high 16 times, the team put more balls in play, but only had their lone run and three hits to show for them. Arizona’s starter Wade Miley worked eight innings and struck out five to shackle the Rockies and send them to their second straight defeat after the team had won seven out of eight games previously. The Rockies have tonight off before returning home for a three-game weekend interleague set against the Los Angeles Angels.
