Rockies pitchers walked nine batters and threw three wild pitches on their way to letting a three-run lead slip away. The Diamondbacks scored four times in the eighth inning to take their first lead of the game at 7-4, but the Rockies rallied back to tie the game at seven in their half of the eighth. But Justin Upton hit a two-run homer with two out and two strikes in the ninth off Colorado’s Rafael Betancourt, and the Rockies could not score after loading the bases with none out in their last at-bat. The Rockies took a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning, but relievers Josh Outman and Matt Belisle allowed the Giants to score three times to tie the game. The Giants loaded the bases in the eighth inning as well but were unable to score. Scutaro led off the ninth with his first homer of the season, and Rafael Betancourt shut the door in the bottom half for his seventh save. Starting pitcher Zach Hirsch took the loss for the Big Red, allowing a pair of runs in his two innings of work. Nebraska managed nine hits on the evening, but only one went for extra bases. Michael Pritchard and Josh Scheffert each had an RBI in the game. The Huskers drop to 32-20 overall with the loss. They conclude their regular season with a trip to Ann Arbor for a three-game Big Ten Conference Series against Michigan, with game one set for Friday night.
