No. 23 Huskers Roll Over No. 8 Ohio State In Regular Season Finale

The 23rd-ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team capped the regular season in style yesterday, defeating 8th-ranked Ohio State 71-57 at the Devaney Center. Though it was Senior Day for the Huskers, it was a freshman who stole the show, as Emily Cady tied a career-high with 24 points. The Huskers also got help from their freshmen off the bench, as Rebecca Woodberry, Tear’a Loudermill, and Brandi Jeffrey combined for 20 points. The Huskers earned their fifth win over a top-25 team this season and close out the regular season with a 21-7 record and a 10-6 mark in their first Big Ten campaign. They will be the sixth seed at the Big Ten Tournament, which begins on Thursday in Indianapolis at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, where the Huskers will play 11th-seeded Northwestern.

Husker Baseball Caps 4-0 Weekend With Comeback Win

The Nebraska baseball team finished off a 4-0 weekend in exciting fashion on Sunday. Chad Christensen’s two-out, two-run double in the top of the ninth inning capped a five run comeback over the final six innings and gave the Huskers an 8-7 win over UNLV in Corpus Christi, Texas yesterday. The Husker bullpen worked six innings of shutout ball to allow the Husker offense to play catch-up. The victory was a fitting end to an outstanding weekend for the Huskers at the Kleberg Bank College Classic. On Friday, the Huskers topped Utah 5-2. In a pair of games Saturday, the Husker offense exploded as they beat Utah 15-0 and topped Texas-Corpus Christi 7-1. The Huskers move to 4-3 on the season. They’re at the Metrodome in Minneapolis for the Dairy Queen Classic this coming weekend.

Girls District Finals Tonight (LISTEN LIVE – St. Patrick’s on ESPN Radio 1410, Hershey on Q-Country 107.3)

Tonight, three Lincoln County teams hope to clinch state berths in girls basketball district finals. The St. Patrick’s Lady Irish have never been to state, but can book their first ever trip to Lincoln tonight when they face Perkins County in the C2-6 district final Sutherland. ESPN Radio 1410 has the live broadcast, with pregame coverage at 6:45 and the tipoff at 7. The Hershey Lady Panthers have a big mountain to climb in the C1-6 district final, as they face undefeated Chadron in Sidney. Q-Country 107.3 has the action from that game, with the pregame show at 7:45 and an 8 PM tip. And in the D1-6 district final in North Platte at St. Patrick’s High School, Sutherland looks to go back to state for a second straight year as they face Sandhills/Thedford.

Irish Win Subdistrict Title on Buzzer Beater: Panthers, Eagles Also Take Crowns

Matthew Jensen’s buzzer-beating three-pointer lifted the St. Patrick’s Irish to their second straight C2-11 subdistrict championship last night. The Irish knocked off Southern Valley 48-45 to advance to a district final against Perkins County. The Irish were one of three Lincoln County squads to win subdistrict titles last night. In the C1-11 subdistrict final, Hershey raced past Gothenburg 59-44 to earn a rematch of last year’s C1-6 district final with Kimball. In the D2-9 subdistrict final, Brady eased to a 71-57 victory over Anselmo-Merna and will take on Hayes Center in their district final. The Sutherland Sailors fell short in the D1-12 district final, falling to Paxton 59-44. Subdistrict finals in Class C1 and C2 are played on Monday, with the D1 and D2 finals on Tuesday.

Husker Women Drop Fourth In Five in Loss At Michigan State

The 23rd-ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team ran into red-hot shooting from Michigan State to open the game and was unable to recover in a 73-53 loss at the Breslin Center last night. Michigan State bolted out of the gates in the first half, as the Spartans jumped to a 43-22 halftime lead by making 62 percent of their shots and seven of their 12 three-point attempts. The Huskers were able to get as close as 10 points with 11 minutest o play in the game, but the Spartans pulled away from there. Jordan Hooper led the Huskers with 15 points and four rebounds, while Kaitlyn Burke added 13 points. With the loss, their fourth in five games, Nebraska slipped to 20-7 overall and 9-6 in the Big Ten. The Huskers host 8th-ranked Ohio State in their final regular season home game on Sunday.

Husker Men Blown Out By Hot-Shooting Purdue

The Nebraska men’s basketball team was blitzed from the start by a hot-shooting Purdue team in an 83-65 loss in West Lafayette, Indiana last night. The Boilermakers shot 63 percent in the first half and pulled to a 47-30 halftime lead. The Huskers were never able to get closer than 14 points in the second half as Purdue cruised to the win. Though Nebraska shot 52 percent from the field, they were outdone by Purdue shooting 54.5 percent and making 13 three-pointers. Bo Spencer had another strong offensive night for the Huskers in the defeat, scoring 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting. He was the only Husker in double figures. The Huskers drop to 12-14 and 4-11 in Big Ten play with the defeat. They’re back in action Saturday night, when they visit seventh-ranked Michigan State.

Husker Women Face Michigan State For First Time Ever Tonight

The 23rd-ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team plays their final conference road game of the season tonight, as they trek to East Lansing to face Michigan State. Nebraska is coming off a home win over Wisconsin on Sunday. It was their 20th win of the season and snapped a three-game losing streak. In contrast, Michigan State has been red-hot of late, winning five of their last six games. The Huskers and Spartans are both 9-5 in Big Ten play and in a four-way tie for third place in the conference. Nebraska could rise as high as second in the conference or drop to as low as seventh depending on the outcome of their games this week against Michigan State and Ohio State. This is the first ever meeting between the Huskers and the Spartans. Tip-off time is scheduled for 6 PM.
