Bradan Erdmann finished as the runner up in the heavyweight class, and five other Bulldog wrestlers finished as medalists. In the Class D state tournament, St. Patrick’s finished 13th as a team, led by fifth place finishes for Adam Pasquinelly at 120 pounds and Barrett Pieper at 160 pounds, and Maxwell ended up 15th as a team, paced by third-place finishes for Drew Riggs at 126 pounds and Connor Norton at 170 pounds.

The 16th-ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a convincing 68-59 victory over Wisconsin at the Devaney Center yesterday afternoon. Jordan Hooper led the way for the Big Red with her eleventh double-double of the season, as she scored 19 points and hauled down a career-high 18 rebounds. Nebraska shot over 50 percent from the field in the first half to jump to an 18-point halftime advantage, and led by as many as 26 points in the second half as they coasted to the victory down the stretch. The win cinches Nebraska’s thirteenth 20-win season in program history and their fourth in the last six seasons. They are now 20-6 overall and 9-5 in Big Ten play. They go back out on the road this Thursday for a matchup against Michigan State.
There was no relief in sight for the Nebraska baseball team in their season opening series against Gonzaga in Peoria, Arizona, as they let late leads slip away in all three games in a Bulldog sweep. On Friday, a three-run eighth inning by Gonzaga lifted them to a 7-4 victory. Saturday night saw newly-named closer Tyler Niederklein allow five runs in the ninth inning as an 8-5 lead turned into a 10-8 defeat. And on Sunday, Brandon Pierce was called upon to close out a 4-2 ninth-inning lead but allowed three runs, and the Huskers went on to lose 5-4. The Huskers will be back on the road next weekend when they head to Corpus Christi, Texas, for the Kleberg Bank College Classic. Nebraska will play Utah on Friday and Saturday, and then meet Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday and UNLV Sunday.
