Husker Women Look To Bounce Back at Minnesota

The 13th-ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team hopes to shake off their worst performance of the season as they visit Minnesota tonight. The Huskers shot a season low 26 percent from the field in last Thursday’s 62-53 home loss to Michigan, a defeat that dropped them out of the lead in the Big Ten. They’re now tied for third with Ohio State, one game back of Purdue and half a game behind Penn State. Tonight, the 19-4 Huskers once again take aim at the thirteenth 20-win season in program history against a Minnesota team they’ve already beaten once. They knocked off the Golden Gophers 64-49 in Lincoln back on January 22. Minnesota is 12-14 overall and has lost their last three games, including a loss at Iowa on Thursday. Tip-off in Minneapolis tonight is set for 6:30.

Hershey and St. Pat’s split girls/boys basketball

HERSHEY, Neb. (North Platte Post)- The Hershey Panthers and St. Pat’s Irish squared off in a girls and boys doubleheader Thursday night in the Hershey High School gym.  On the girls’ side, Irish eyes were smilin’.  Meanwhile, the Panther boys exacted a bit of revenge and saw a welcome return to their line-up.

The St. Pat’s Lady Irish came out strong, taking a 10-0 lead right out of the gate.  Hershey would fight back, getting as close as 4 in the second half, but their comeback bid fell short.  Led by Candice Shelton’s 19 points, St. Pat’s won 46-32.  They take the season series from the Lady Panthers, 2-1, including a victory in the SPVA championship game.  Hershey was led in scoring by Daynlee Miller and Maddie Seamann who both had 9.

For the boys, Jordan Hiatt made his return to the floor after sitting out much of the football and basketball seasons with a leg injury.  Although he finished with just 3 points and 3 rebounds, getting him back on the floor provided a huge spark for the Hershey players and fans.  Led by 22 points in an impressive night from Jimmy Moore, Hershey turned away several Irish comeback attempts to win their final regular season home game, 52-43.  St. Pat’s leading scorer was Sean Keenan who hit three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points.

Jack Kenny and Trevor Schramm scored 13 points apiece to lead the Bulldogs in the loss, their fourth in a row. North Platte’s boys visit Gering tonight. The Lady Bulldogs snapped a six-game losing streak with a 47-28 win over Scottsbluff at the Dawghouse last night. Tonight, they will welcome Gering to town, with tip-off set for 7 PM. ESPN Radio 1410 will have a live broadcast of Lady Bulldog basketball tonight. The pregame show gets underway at 6:45.

No. 13 Husker Women Off the Mark, Lose to Michigan

The 13th-ranked Nebraska women’s basketball team picked a bad night to impersonate their male counterparts offensively. The Huskers missed 26 of 30 shots in the first half and fell behind by as many as 27 points in a 63-52 loss to Michigan at the Devaney Center last night. Nebraska missed 17 straight shots during one fourteen minute span in the first half, allowing the Wolverines to go on a 28-5 run that gave them a 20-point lead at the break. But the Huskers showed some fight in the second half, clawing to within eight points in the final two minutes before succumbing to defeat. Lindsey Moore led the Huskers with a game-high 23 points. Jordan Hooper added 14 points and led the team with eight rebounds. The Huskers fall to 19-4 and 8-3 in the Big Ten. They play at Minnesota on Monday night.
