Husker Defense Receives Differently-colored Practice Uniforms
The tenth-ranked Nebraska football team hopes that their best defensive effort of the year is a sign of things to come. After holding Michigan State to 187 total yards in a 24-3 win on Saturday, 20 Husker defenders received their coveted black practice shirts for the first time. They’ll have to work hard to keep them against a potent Northwestern offense this coming Saturday. Huskers defensive coordinator Carl Pelini was complimentary of Northwestern’s star quarterback, Dan Persa. Persa and the Wildcats come to Lincoln for a 2:30 kickoff this Saturday.
Junior Cook’s Arrest Hanging Over Second-Ranked Huskers
The Husker volleyball team fell to second in the poll after falling in four sets to Penn State in State College on Saturday, their first loss in Big Ten play. The defeat snapped a sixteen-match winning streak and dropped the Huskers to 18-2, but that is hardly the Huskers’ biggest issue. Junior setter Lauren Cook, daughter of head coach John Cook, was arrested on Sunday and accused of driving under a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident. Cook allegedly collided with a motorcycle stopped on the side of the road, leaving both of its passengers injured. According to the police report, Cook initially fled the scene, but stopped a half mile from the accident and called the police. Coach Cook has not announced any disciplinary measures as of yet. The Huskers host Michigan and Michigan State this weekend.
Fox Confirms Tebow Will Start At Oakland Sunday
After leaving some doubt with his remarks in his postgame press conference Sunday, Denver Broncos head coach John Fox left no doubts in his press conference yesterday, saying that Tim Tebow will remain the team’s starting quarterback this week. Questions arose after Tebow submitted an ugly performance in a 45-10 loss to the Detroit Lions in Denver on Sunday. Tebow completed less than 50 percent of his passes, was sacked seven times, lost a fumble that was returned for a touchdown and threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown. The Broncos dropped to 2-5 with the loss and now must head to the hostile Black Hole in Oakland to take on the Raiders. Fox was optimistic about running back Willis McGahee’s chance to play against the Raiders after missing the Lions game with a broken hand.
