Storm’s Copley Named USHL Co-Goaltender Of The Week

Tri-City Storm goaltender Phoenix Copley was named the USHL’S Reebok Co-Goaltender of the Week for his performance in the Storm’s season-opening win on Friday night. In his Storm and USHL debut, Copley stopped 28 shots in a 1-0 victory over Sioux City at the Viaero Events Center in Kearney. The 19 year-old from North Pole, Alaska held the Musketeers scoreless on eight power play attempts and stopped two penalty shots to ensure that Heikki Liedes’ second-period goal stood up for a Storm victory. Huskers Drop In Polls After Blowout Loss To Wisconsin

Their prime-time Big Ten debut did not go according to plan, and the Nebraska football team has suffered in the polls because of it. The Huskers dropped six spots to 14th in the AP poll, and seven spots to 15th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, after Saturday night’s 48-17 loss at Wisconsin. The Huskers allowed 34 straight points in a defeat for which head coach Bo Pelini apologized to the entire state of Nebraska after the game, calling the performance ‘a joke’. The loss was the worst for the Huskers, both in terms of margin of victory and points allowed, since Oklahoma thrashed them 62-28 back in 2008. On the flip side, Wisconsin earned a jump to 4th in the AP poll and 5th in the USA Today Coaches Poll after the victory. Nebraska will try to rebound as they host Ohio State this Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

Husker Volleyball Sweeps Weekend Road Matches

Nebraska lost the second and third sets to fall behind but battled back and won the fifth set 16-14. Morgan Broekhuis’s 22 kills led the Huskers, while Gina Mancuso had a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Saturday night in Ann Arbor, the Huskers swept the Wolverines 17, 24, and 16. Broekhuis was the leading attacker again with 13 kills, with Mancuso chipping in seven and Brooke Delano adding nine. The Huskers return to the NU Coliseum this weekend as they host Purdue Friday and Indiana Saturday.

Broncos Pummeled By Rodgers, Packers

A Denver Broncos secondary short their best player was reduced to rubble by Aaron Rogers and the defending champion Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Rodgers threw for 408 yards and four touchdowns as the Packers routed the Broncos 49-23. The Broncos were without Champ Bailey at cornerback, and paid the price, as Rodgers completed 29 of his 38 pass attempts. Rodgers also rushed for two touchdowns. Kyle Orton tossed three touchdown passes but also threw three interceptions, one of which was returned by Charles Woodson for a touchdown. Eric Decker was on the receiving end of two of Orton’s scoring passes. The Broncos have lost two straight games and drop to 1-3 on the season. They return to Sports Authority Field at Mile High next week to host the San Diego Chargers.

Huskers Travel Today In Preparation For Wisconsin Saturday

It’s quite a welcome to their new conference, with the seventh-ranked Badgers listed as nine-point favorites. Much of that is due to some defensive struggles for the Huskers, but head coach Bo Pelini believes that his defense will come together as a group and reach their potential. Kickoff at Camp Randall Stadium is set for 7 tomorrow night.
