The Raiders are off to an outstanding start this season, with a 13-3 record and a number seven ranking in the NJCAA’s national top 20 poll. Hear all the action tonight as the Knights look to get back on the winning track against arguably their biggest rivals. ESPN Radio 1410’s coverage starts with the pregame show at 5:45, leading to the first serve at 7.

Broncos Banged Up – Four Starters Miss Practice Wednesday

No, there is no quarterback controversy in Denver. Kyle Orton will remain the starter despite the fans’ growing frustration with him and deepening longing for backup Tim Tebow. But there is legitimate concern about the status of some of the Bronco’s other starters due to injury. Four starters – Champ Bailey, Elvis Dumervil, Knowshon Moreno and Brandon Lloyd – sat out practice on Wednesday due to injuries suffered in Monday night’s loss to Oakland. Bailey and Moreno are dealing with hamstring issues, while Dumervil injured his shoulder and Lloyd injured his groin. Three projected starters who missed the season opener due to injury – DJ Williams, Marcus Thomas and Demayrious Thomas – have not yet returned to practice. The Broncos host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon.

Rockies Beat Brewers Behind Millwood, CarGo

The Colorado Rockies salvaged a split in their two-game road series against the Milwaukee Brewers with a 6-2 victory last night at Miller Park. Carlos Gonzalez belted a two-run homer, his 26th of the season, to break a 1-1 tie in the third inning and give the Rockies the lead for good. Wilin Rosario added a solo homer, the second of his big league career, in the fourth innings to contribute to the winning effort. On the mound, veteran Kevin Millwood won his third game of the season with six strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out two. Four relievers combined for three shutout frams to close the game out. The Rockies return home for their final homestand of the season tonight, opening a four-game series against the San Francisco Giants. First pitch is set for 7:40.

Ehlers Leaves Nebraska Baseball Program

Logan Ehlers, a left-handed pitcher from Nebraska City who was an eighth-round draft pick by the Toronto Blue Jays out of high school and pitched 29.1 innings for the Huskers in his freshman season last year, has left the Huskers baseball program. Husker baseball coach Darin Erstad released the following statement.

“We wish Logan nothing but the best of luck in the future. We will continue to support him in any way we can.”

Ehlers was 1-3 with a 4.30 ERA in a tumultuous freshman season, which included a 34 game suspension by the NCAA because his adviser made illegal contact with the Blue Jays during contract negotiations. The Huskers had just opened up fall practice last week.

Braun, Brewers Walk Off On Rockies

For the second time this season the Colorado Rockies suffered a walk-off defeat in Milwaukee. Ryan Braun’s leadoff homer in the bottom of the eleventh inning gave the Brewers a 2-1 victory over the Rockies last night. Braun connected off of Matt Lindstrom to give the Brewers their sixth victory over the Rockies in eight meetings this season. The Rockies took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on Wilin Rosario’s RBI double, but Prince Fielder’s solo home run in the sixth inning tied the game. The Rockies managed just one run on nine hits and four walks, and had two runners called out on plays at the plate. The Rockies and Brewers finish off their two-game series tonight. ESPN Radio 1410 has the action from Miller Park, with pregame coverage starting at 6:30 and the first pitch scheduled for 7:10.

Knights Fall to LCCC In Four

The North Platte Community College Knights lost a hard-fought four-set match at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming last night. The Knights lost the first two sets 26-28 and 19-25 before rebounding for a come-from-behind 27-25 victory in the third set. The host Golden Eagles would win the fourth set 25-23 to secure the win. The Knights record falls to 7-7 with the loss. They host Central Community College on Thursday night.

Broncos Rumble, Fumble, Stumble in Season-Opening Loss To Raiders

In a sloppy, penalty-filled, rainy game, the Denver Broncos dropped their season opener to the Oakland Raiders 23-20 in Denver last night. Oakland took a 16-3 lead into the half on the strength of three Sebastian Janikowski field goals, including an NFL record-tying 63 yarder. But Eric Decker’s 90 yard punt return for a touchdown got the Broncos back into the game. Kyle Orton connected with Lance Ball on a touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter brought the Broncos to within three, but the Raiders were able to run out the clock. It was a rough night for Orton, who threw for 304 yards but was sacked five times, intercepted once, and fumbled once. In a characteristically chippy game between the two longtime rivals, the teams combined for 25 penalties. The Broncos host the Cincinnati Bengals next Sunday.

Huskers Defensive Coordinator ‘Embarrassed’ After Saturday’s Win

Nebraska defensive coordinator Carl Pelini didn’t pull any punches when asked to describe the play of his defense in Saturday’s game against Fresno State. “We have our standards that we want to play by. Saturday we didn’t feel like we played up to our standards. We are not a very good defensive football team. We are only as good as our last performance, ”Pelini said. “You guys told our guys for six months how great they were going to be, and I think they bought into it. You have to respect Division I opponents. Fresno State is a great football team. They out-executed us. I’m furious about our performance, and I’m embarrassed and I hope our players are too.” The Huskers gave up 444 yards of total offense and didn’t record a sack in the 42-29 win. This week, the tenth-ranked Huskers have to deal with Washington’s talent running back, Chris Polk, who shredded the Huskers for 177 yards on the ground in last season’s Holiday Bowl. It’s Nebraska’s third meeting against the Huskies in the last 12 months.
