Rox Fall To D-Backs Again
The Colorado Rockies continue to be dominated by the Arizona Diamondbacks. They lost for the seventh time in the last eight meetings against the NL West leaders, falling 9-4 last night in Phoenix. The Rockies took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Todd Helton RBI single, but Aaron Cook couldn’t make that stand up as he allowed six runs on seven hits in four and two-thirds innings to take the loss. The Rockies managed 13 hits, just one fewer than the D-Backs, but failed to turn them into runs. Dexter Fowler provided a late highlight for the Rockies by hitting his first home run of the season, a solo blast in the ninth. The Rockies will try and avoid a series sweep in tonight’s finale. Esmil Rogers will take the mound for Colorado, opposing Arizona’s Josh Collmenter. First pitch is set for 8:40.

Huskers Announce Starters At DE, CB, Kicker/Punter
With four days left until Nebraska’s season opening football game, the depth chart picture is starting to become a little clearer. The Huskers coaching staff has not released an official depth chart, but did acknowledge starters at some positions in their press conference yesterday afternoon. With Alfonzo Dennard questionable to play after suffering a leg injury earlier in fall camp, Carl Pelini said that Ciante Evans and Andrew Green will start at cornerback, with plenty of players in rotation, if Dennard can not play Saturday. The Huskers defensive coordinator also tabbed sophomore Jason Ankrah as the pick to start opposite Cameron Meredith at defensive end for the opener. On special teams, junior Brett Maher has won the kicking and punting duties in the competition with true freshman Mauro Bondi.
Rockies Fall In Arizona In Game One Of Three-Game Set
The Colorado Rockies dropped the opening game of their three game series with the National League West leaders. The Arizona Diamondbacks got seven stellar innings from starting pitcher Daniel Hudson to defeat the Rockies 5-1. In his second start with the Rockies, Alex White struggled mightily with his control, walking six batters in his six innings of work and allowing five runs, four of which came in the sixth inning to help the D-Backs put the game away. The Rockies couldn’t muster any offense until the ninth inning, when three hit batters led to their lone run, which was driven in by Chris Iannetta when he was hit with the bases loaded. Carlos Gonzalez went 0-for-3 to end his 14-game hit streak. The Rockies and D-Backs are back at it again tonight in the desert. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40.
