Huskers Complete Four-Game Sweep of Lions

Lincoln – With a 5-4 victory on Sunday afternoon at Hawks Field then Nebraska baseball team (9-6, 0-0 Big Ten) stretched its win streak to six games and recorded its first four-game sweep of an opponent since 2011 when it took four from North Dakota. The Huskers got home runs from both Ben Miller and Scott Schreiber, while Miller also drove in the eventual game-winning run with a double in the fifth. Former Bulldog athletes excel in Florida Collegiate Softball Spring Games

Former North Platte High School softball standouts, Mikenzi Wiseman and Katie Franzen competed in The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida March 5-11 and made significant contributions to their respective college teams.

Wiseman, a freshman, is the starting catcher for Southwest Minnesota State University which competes in NCAA D-II.  Wiseman finished the week batting .333 with three doubles and a run batted in.  She also recorded a perfect fielding percentage which included 30 putouts, while throwing-out five base-runners.

Franzen, also a freshman, starts in right-field for Bellevue University which competes in the NAIA.  Franzen finished with 3 RBI including a walk-off single that scored the winning run against Mount Vernon Nazarene University.  She tallied 11 putouts and a perfect fielding percentage.

Huskers Beat Badgers 70-58 in B1G Tournament

Indianapolis (AP) — The only time Nebraska faced Wisconsin in the regular season, top scorer Shavon Shields was sidelined with an injury. And the Badgers shot better than 50 percent from the field in an 11-point victory.

Thursday night in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament, Shields was a major factor and Wisconsin simply couldn’t shoot straight.

Shields scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead 11th-seeded Nebraska to a 70-58 victory over No. 6 seed Wisconsin in the Big Ten Conference tournament. Continue reading “Huskers Beat Badgers 70-58 in B1G Tournament”

Huskers Blast Bears, 7-1

Lincoln – Behind a home run for the second straight day from Scott Schreiber and a 11 strikeouts from the Husker pitching staff, the Nebraska baseball team (5-6, 0-0 Big Ten) completed a two-game sweep of the Northern Colorado Bears (3-11, 0-0 WAC) with a 7-1 win on Wednesday afternoon at Hawks Field. All 10 Huskers Qualify for NCAA Championships

For the first time since 1995, the entire Husker lineup has qualified for the NCAA Championships. Seven Huskers earned seeds when the NCAA announced its brackets for each weight class on Wednesday.

Schreiber Hits Two Homers, Huskers Blank Bears 8-0

Lincoln – The Nebraska baseball team (4-6, 0-0 Big Ten) won its 38th straight home opener on Tuesday afternoon at Hawks Field with a 8-0 shutout of the Northern Colorado Bears. Sophomore Scott Schreiber drove in a career-high four runs with two home runs and a double, while fellow sophomore Garett King tossed 6.0 scoreless innings for his first win of the year. Three NPCC Lady Knights Basketball Players Selected to All-Conference Team

mahr jackson viescasNorth Platte –The Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference Women’s basketball team for the 2015-16 season.

Two North Platte Community College Lady Knights players were named to the team and one was named Honorable Mention.  Sarah Mahr and Djimonii Jackson were named to the team and Zulema Viescas was named Honorable Mention.
