The comedy Think Like a Man was the Number One movie for the second weekend in a row while the superhero film The Avengers opened big overseas, taking in $178.4 million in 39 countries ahead of its opening in the U.S. next weekend.
The next four films at the box office, including newcomers The Pirates! Band of Misfits and The Five-Year Engagement, were all so close that their positions could change once the final numbers are released today. But according to the studio estimates out yesterday, the animated family comedy The Pirates! Band of Misfits opened at Number Two, followed by The Lucky One, The Hunger Games, and the romantic comedyThe Five-Year Engagement, debuting in fifth place.
The Pirates! Band of Misfits, about a pirate captain and his crew trying to best their rivals in a quest to win the title of Pirate of the Year, features the voices of Hugh Grant, Brendan Gleeson, Martin Freeman,David Tennant, Jeremy Piven and Imelda Staunton. The Five-Year Engagement stars Jason Segeland Emily Blunt as a engaged couple who face ups and downs and repeated interruptions on their way to the altar. Co-starring are Alison Brie, Chris Pratt and Rhys Ifans.
Opening in sixth place was the action thriller Safe, starring Jason Statham as a cage fighter who takes on a mission to rescue a kidnapped girl from the Russian Mafia. Catherine Chan, Chris Sarandon and Robert John Burke co-star. Debuting at Number Eight was The Raven, starring John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe, who joins forces with a detective after a killer begins committing murders inspired by Poe’s writing.

LANE GARRISON FACING CHARGES FOR ALTERCATION: Lane Garrison has been charged with misdemeanor domestic violence. TMZ reported that the District Attorney decided to go forward with charges based on a surveillance video that appears to show Lane slapping his ex-girlfriend Ashley Mattingly. Garrison’s rep has said that the actor wasn’t slapping her in the footage — yet merely reaching for his cell phone. Garrison is being held without bail because he’s on a parole hold. Garrison was convicted of vehicular manslaughter back in 2007 and was just shy of completing parole when the incident occurred.
PAULY D GETS MORE BUFF: Pauly D is putting the emphasis on the G in GTL. HULK HOGAN RESPONDS TO NUDE PHOTOS: Hulk Hogan wants naked pictures of himself taken off the internet. After black and photos — rumored to be taken from a sex tape — surfaced on TheDirty.com,Hulk’s lawyers issued a cease and desist letter demanding they be taken down. The lawyer wrote, “As you know, should a sex tape or photographs of Mr. Bollea exist, they were taken without his consent and therefore the same would constitute a felony in the State of Florida.”

JENNIFER MORRISON BACK FOR ‘HOUSE’ FINALE: Jennifer Morrison is returning for the series finale of House. Although details about the spot are being kept secret, sources told E! that the cameo ” will be a brief but meaningful appearance, and that the finale was shot last week.” The final episode will air on May 21st.
DAVID HASSELHOFF QUITS AUSTRALIAN REALITY SHOW: David Hasselhoff quit the Australian version of Celebrity Apprentice to fly back to the U.S. and deal with a “personal commitment.” Hasselhoff was a contestant on the series, but walked off the show this week saying, “I have to leave. It’s not business related, it is a personal commitment that I made to my family and it involves honor. . . it only came up last night. I feel awful about leaving but I am very proud to be a part of Celebrity Apprentice.” The network released a statement saying, “We were aware that there was a possibility he might get called away as he had flagged this other personal obligation which could emerge during our schedule. Then midway through the series David revealed… he had made a promise of a personal nature and had been called on to honor it.”
BETTY WHITE MAKING CAMEO ON ‘THE CLIENT LIST’ Betty White is joining forces with Jennifer Love Hewitt. The 90-year-old TV legend will make a cameo appearance on the season finale of Hewitt’s new Lifetime show, The Client List. People magazine reports that White will play the wife of one of Hewitt’s character’s spa clients who gives her advice about how to make a marriage last.
