How Gwyneth Paltrow saved a woman on 9/11

Gwyneth Paltrow might have saved a woman’s life the morning of the September 11th attacks — by almost running her over.

Lara Lundstrom Clarke writes on The Morton Report that she was rushing to work at New York’s Twin Towers when she dashed across Seventh Avenue to get to the subway station — and a Mercedes SUV came barreling toward her. Both Clarke and the car stopped in their tracks, and that’s when she realized it was Paltrow behind the wheel. The near-collision caused Clarke to miss the train, and by the time she got to work, the first plane had hit the World Trade Center. Four people in her office died that day.

Gwyneth’s publicist has confirmed the incident and says that the actress was “deeply moved” by the story.

ANOTHER STAGE COLLAPSE: At Least Three Dead at Belguim Fest

Yet another stage collapse due to weather happened, this time at the Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium. AP reports that at least three people were killed and more than 70 were injured after a storm blew through the festival grounds Thursday. 30 Seconds to Mars were getting ready to go on stage when the weather came through, and frontman Jared Leto tweeted that four stages went down.

Organziers have put the festival on hold for now. Other acts slated to perform included Foo Fighters, Eminem and The Offspring.

This collapse comes after five people were killed last weekend at the Indiana State Fair during a Sugarland – Sara Bareilles show and a collapse in July in Canada while Cheap Trick were performing. –Steve Reynolds

(VIDEO) BASKETBRAWL: Georgetown-Chinese Exhibition Gets Ugly

So much for goodwill games. An exhibition basketball game between Georgetown’s men’s basketball team and a Chinese professional club last night (Thursday) in Beijing turned violent, breaking out into a bench-clearing brawl in which players traded punches, chairs were thrown and members of the crowd tossed water bottles at the Hoyas players and coaches as they sought shelter in the locker room.

The fight broke out with nine-minutes-and-32-seconds left in the game with the score tied at 64. The rest of the game was canceled by the two teams are scheduled to meet again on Sunday.

The brawl occurred just one night after Vice President Biden, in Beijing for a four-day stay to discuss U.S.-Chinese economic relations, attended a Georgetown game against and another Chinese club.

DIET & EXERCISE: Just Counting Calories Isn’t Going To Cut It

A new study from Harvard University concluded that many current weight-control tips work, while others do not.

For example, eating everything in moderation, eating fewer calories and avoiding fatty foods isn’t the best approach.

Instead, what you eat makes quite a difference. Just counting calories won’t matter much unless you look at the kinds of calories you’re eating.

Here are some other findings the scientists tested and proved about weight loss:

To guard against creeping weight gain, weigh yourself at least once a week, on the same scale under the same conditions.
Exercise alone is rarely enough to shed lots of pounds — you must change your diet.
Read package labels. Whole grains should be the first ingredient of starchy foods like bread, rice or pasta.
Fill your dinner plate mostly with vegetables, and limit consumption of red meat.
Snack on nuts or add them to dishes, but don’t get carried away; they are high in calories.
You can drink one glass of wine a day and not gain weight, but other forms of alcohol are likely to bring added pounds.
