Scottsbluff Zoo Breaks Ground on New Project

riverside-discovery-center(AP) — A Scottsbluff zoo has broken ground on a new facility that will include a petting area.

The Riverside Discovery Center says the Heritage Barn will include six pens for petting animals and a classroom with about 30 mounts from its Wildlife World exhibit.

The 2,700-square-foot facility will be located on the southeast end of the zoo. It’s part of a new pathway that’s aimed at improving traffic flow at the zoo.

Interim Board President Tony Kaufman says the new facility is scheduled to open this spring. It’s the first of three phases of construction for the zoo, which includes a new entrance building.

Purr-fect Pasta Dinner

WHO: PAWS-itive Partners and YOU!
WHAT: Purr-fect Pasta Dinner
WHEN: Friday, October 11th at 5:00pm
WHERE: Masonic Temple on ‘B’ and McDonald in North Platte
WHY: In recent years, PAWS-itive Partners has been asked to pay for cats, kittens, dogs and puppies that arrive at the North Platte Animal Shelter in need of medical attention. The Shelter’s already strained budget doesn’t have funds for medical care, so animals sometimes don’t get the medical attention we feel they need. The Purr-fect Pasta Dinner proceeds will go towards PAWS-itive Partners’ emergency medical fund to help animals.
Contact Jo at 308-532-8814 if you have any questions.

Last year PAWS-itive Partner were totally unprepared for the over-whelming response. Instead of the 100 anticipated, they served 350. This year, they will  be ready.  “We are looking forward to redeeming ourselves and serve a great dinner to the people who are so supportive of Paws-itive Partners” say Jo Mayber, President. They will be serving til around 6:30-7:00p

Fall Craft and Gift Show

Platte River Mall is gearing up for the annual Fall Craft and Gift Show on October 11th-13th, 2013. Registrations are coming in and there are several new booths to be on the look out for.
“We are very excited for this year’s Fall Craft Show. We are welcoming back some of our beloved favorites – The Wrights Roasted Nuts, Tupperware, Sandy Ink, Paparazzi, and various Homemade crafts,” states Assistant Mall Manager Cassie Condon.
“In an effort to gain more vendors we are flexible with what days they sign up for. This has really helped several vendors that have to work on a certain day, they are still able to participate in our show.”
The Fall Craft & Gift Show is held during Mall Hours, which is Friday and Saturday 10am-9pm and on Sunday Noon-6pm.
“It’s hard to think that the Holiday Season is already upon us, but our stores and staff are already gearing up for the Holidays. This craft show basically kicks off our busy season. We have a packed October through December and we are excited! We are adding a Home Based Business Expo in November this year. Which is something we have had a lot of interest in. This will be the first time we will have a show like this so close to the Holidays.”

Auditions Set for ‘Almost Maine’ at the Community Playhouse

almost-maine-logoAuditions for the 2nd production of the 2013/2014 North Platte Community Playhouse Season, ALMOST MAINE, will be held Monday October 7th and Wednesday October 9th from 7:00-9:00pm in the Patty Birge Room at the Playhouse.

The cast calls for up to 10 men and 8 women.  All interested parties are encouraged to audition, no preparation is necessary.

THE STORY: On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.
Performances of ALMOST MAINE will be November 16, 17, 22, 23 and 24, 2013. The production is directed by Carey Harder.
