Mindy McCready to Be Laid to Rest Today

mindy-mccreadyMindy McCready’s funeral is being held in her hometown of Fort Myers.

The funeral for the late country star will be at Tuesday at Crossroads Baptist Church. A memorial is scheduled in Nashville next month.

McCready committed suicide Feb. 17 at her home in Arkansas, days after leaving a court-ordered substance abuse treatment program. The 37-year-old mother of two died from a single gunshot to the head about a month after her longtime boyfriend David Wilson was believed to have killed himself in the same location.

McCready hit the top of the country charts before personal problems sidetracked her career.

In 1996, her “Guys Do It All the Time” hit No. 1. Her other hits included “Ten Thousand Angels” and her album by that title sold 2 million copies.

Hammer Time: MC Hammer Arrested for Obstructing Police

mc-hammerA sheriff’s department spokesman in Northern California says a Dublin police officer stopped and then arrested MC Hammer because the ’90s rap star was driving a car with expired registration and refused to get out of the vehicle.

Lt. Herb Walters of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement issued Monday that Hammer was “very argumentative” with the officer during the traffic stop late Thursday. He says it’s unclear who owns the car.

Hammer eventually came out of the car and was arrested for investigation of obstructing an officer in the performance of his duties.

Hammer, who was born Stanley Burrell, has offered a different account, suggesting he was the victim of racial profiling. He tweeted on Saturday that the officer asked him if he were on parole or probation and tried to pull him out through the car window.

Jermaine Jackson Legally Changes His Name to Jacksun

jermaine-jacksonJermaine Jackson has a new, brighter surname — Jacksun.

A Los Angeles judge approved the change to singer’s name Friday.

The 58-year-old, who shared lead singing duties with his younger brother Michael in the Jackson 5, did not appear in court.

He sought the name change for “artistic reasons” and says it has nothing to do with a recent rift in his family over the care of Michael Jackson’s children and family matriarch Katherine Jackson.

His attorney Bret D. Lewis says Jacksun is in Europe performing with his brothers and told him that he was sure it was “a sunny day in California.”

Lewis says he doesn’t know whether Jacksun will elaborate on the creative reasons for the change.
