ANNIE Opens at the North Platte Community Playhouse
The final production of the 2013/2014 season at the North Platte Community Playhouse, ANNIE, opens Friday, April 4th.
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan ANNIE charms everyone’s hearts, despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find her parents, who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan.
With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, ANNIE escapes to the wondrous and magical world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, ANNIE foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations and befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She finds a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
Ticket sales for ANNIE begin Monday, March 31. Tickets can be purchased at the NPCP Box Office Monday-Friday from Noon-5:00pm, online at www.northplattecommunityplayhouse.com or at the door prior to any performance. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children and students.
Performance dates are April 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13, with Friday and Saturday performances beginning at 8:00pm and Sunday matinees beginning at 2:00pm.
The cast is made up of 40 children, 20 adults and one dog, Nestle as Sandy.
The production is directed by Scott Carlson and John Hales, with music director Donna Pucket.
ANNIE is produced through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International, and is made possible, in part, by the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment of the Arts.

The exhibit, “Dry Times,” will feature the work of ceramic artist Jess Benjamin through May 18. Benjamin will appear at the exhibit’s First Friday reception on April 4, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Benjamin’s work focuses on water usage and drought throughout the Great Plains.

Police Release New Photos from Kurt Cobain Suicide

(AP) — Seattle police have released previously unseen images showing drug paraphernalia from the scene of Kurt Cobain’s suicide 20 years ago.
Police spokeswoman Renee Witt said Thursday that several rolls of undeveloped film were found when a detective re-examined the Cobain case recently.
Seattle police released two images to the media late Thursday. One was an image showing a box containing a spoon and what appear to be needles on the floor next to a cigarette and sunglasses. The other showed the paraphernalia box closed, next to cash and a wallet that appears to show Cobain’s identification.
Cobain, whose body was discovered in Seattle on April 8, 1994, is not seen in the images. An investigation determined he had shot himself.

Sony Unveils Virtual Reality Headset for PS4
(AP) — Sony is getting into the virtual reality business.
The electronics and gaming company unveiled a prototype virtual reality headset to be used in conjunction with its PlayStation 4 video game console.
Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, showed off the headset during a Tuesday talk at the Game Developers Conference. He declined to specify when it would be released or how much it would cost.
The headset is codenamed Project Morpheus and features a head-mounted display with 1080p resolution and a 90-degree field of view. Sensors built into the headset can track head orientation and movement.
The headset will be demonstrated for conference attendees beginning Wednesday on the conference’s expo floor.
The technology is similar to the Oculus Rift, a VR headset in development.
