Lance Armstrong Stripped Of His Medals

lance-armstrongOfficials familiar with the decision tell The Associated Press the IOC has stripped Lance Armstrong of his bronze medal from the 2000 Sydney Olympics because of his involvement in doping.

Two officials say the IOC sent a letter to Armstrong on Wednesday night asking him to return the medal. The move came after the IOC was notified by cycling’s governing body that Armstrong had not appealed the decision to disqualify him.

The officials spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the decision hasn’t been announced.

The IOC executive board discussed revoking the medal last month, but delayed a decision until cycling body UCI formally notified Armstrong he had been stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and all results since 1998. He then had 21 days to appeal.

With the deadline expired, the IOC decided to take the medal away.

Lindsay Lohan Enters Not Guilty Plea to Three Misdemeanors

LohanLindsay Lohan’s attorney has entered a not guilty plea for the actress to three misdemeanor charges filed over a June accident in which her sports car slammed into a dump truck.

Attorney Shawn Holley entered the plea during a brief hearing Tuesday in Los Angeles.

The actress is accused of lying to police, reckless driving and obstructing police from performing their duties.

Police suspect she was driving her sports car when it slammed into the truck while she was on her way to the set of “Liz and Dick” in early June. Lohan told police she wasn’t behind the wheel.

Lohan was on probation for a 2011 necklace theft case at the time, and could face up to 245 days in jail if a judge determines she violated her probation.

Seaside Heights Decides to Rebuild Famous Boardwalk

Jersey-Shore The iconic boardwalk where generations of families and teens got their first taste of the Jersey Shore and where the reality show of the same name was filmed is being rebuilt following its destruction in Superstorm Sandy.

Seaside Heights on Wednesday awarded a $3.6 million contract to have the boardwalk rebuilt in time for Memorial Day weekend.

The Seaside Heights walkway was one of the most popular and heavily used boardwalks at the shore. It was featured in the MTV reality show made famous by Snooki and The Situation. It was destroyed in the October storm. Officials say it’s the centerpiece of the borough’s tourist industry, which funds 75 percent of its budget.

The work should be done by May 10.

Seaside Heights is the second major boardwalk to begin rebuilding. Belmar started work on its walkway last week.

Director Of Zero Dark Thirty Defends Torture Scenes

ZeroDkThDirector Kathryn Bigelow is defending torture scenes in “Zero Dark Thirty,” saying the military hunt for Osama bin Laden wasn’t free of moral consequences.

The best picture Oscar-nominated film opens by declaring it’s based on firsthand accounts of actual events.

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein and other lawmakers have criticized the film as misleading for suggesting torture led to the location of Bin Laden.

But Bigelow writes in the Los Angeles Times  on Wednesday that torture was part of the story and the backlash may be misdirected.

She says critics should perhaps direct their anger at those who ordered U.S. torture policies rather than her film.

Bigelow says it seems illogical to make a case against torture by denying the role it played in counter-terrorism policy and practices.

Facebook Reveals New Search Tool

fblogo Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a new search feature on the world’s biggest online social network.

Called “graph search,” the new service lets users search their social connections for information about people, interests, photos and places. Until now, Facebook users were unable to search for friends who live in a certain town or like a particular movie. With the new feature, people can search for friends who, say, live in Boston who also like “Zero Dark Thirty”.

Zuckerberg says the search feature is “privacy aware.” That means users can only search for content that has been shared with them.
