North Platte Library Brown Bag Luncheon

The Friends of the Library are hosting a Brown Bag Luncheon Series Program at the library at 12:00 PM on Thursday, December 13th. Based on the newly published book, City Bones, Kaycee Anderson and George Lauby will be presenting historic information and photography of North Platte’s downtown buildings. Some of the buildings that will be discussed tell the story of “Little Chicago,” when gambling and prostitution was common. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and autographs.

Don’t miss this exciting local history program! It’s free to attend. Seating is limited to 70 people so please call the library at 535-8036 for seating reservations. Attendees may bring their own lunch. Coffee, tea and water will be provided.

Lorie Line to Present Heavenly Concert at the North Platte Community Playhouse

The North Platte Community Playhouse (NPCP) is pleased to announce a concert by nationally renowned pianist and performer, Lorie Line. Pianist Lorie Line is returning to the road once again, performing 40 shows this holiday season. This year’s concert, “Immanuel” promises to be a “heavenly show,” with her personal concert grand piano once again taking center stage.

Line says her holiday extravaganza is always new and different each year and that’s what “makes my fans come back each holiday season. They love the musical arrangements, the variety, the spectacular costumes and the overall Christmas message.”

This year’s theme carol “O Come, O Come, Immanuel” will set the tone of the night. She will also be featuring music from the Orient, French counterpoint and classic pieces from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky. Fans should plan to bring their bells as they will once again be invited to ring along.

Classically trained since the age of 5, Line has been touring for 23 years. Her unique grass roots story has been featured in hundreds of magazines and news publications across the country. She has hosted three PBS specials and sold 6 million albums. Known for her compositions and unique arrangements, Line has published 38 books of music which are now distributed all over the world.

This year Line will travel with her Fab Five, which includes national award-winning drummer (21-year old) Jean-Pierre Bouvet, also America’s Got Talent bassist Josh Fink, Chase Hardin on guitar, Derek Bromme on trombone, and newcomer 18-year old Clair Elrod on the violin.

Line is touring to eleven brand new cities this year. Her family show is two hours long and is appropriate for children ages four and up.

Line will be live on stage at the NPCP, one night only, Monday December 10, 2012. The performance will start at 7:30PM and tickets are $50.00 each. Mother Of Modern Family’s Ariel Winter Accused Of Abuse

The mother of “Modern Family” star Ariel Winter has temporarily lost custody of the actress amid claims she’s has been abusive to the teenager.

Court records claim Winter’s mother Chrisoula Workman has being physically and emotionally abusive to her 14-year-old daughter, who plays Alex Dunphy on the hit ABC comedy.

The October order, first reported Wednesday by celebrity website TMZ, requires Workman to stay away from Winter until a November hearing. Records show Winter’s sister filed for guardianship and was appointed her temporary guardian, but will not have access to her earnings.

The records describe Workman’s abuse as consisting of slapping and name-calling.

Reached by phone, Workman said she was in the process of hiring an attorney.

Winter has appeared in films and TV shows since she was 7.

Linkin Park’s Killer Performance: 1 Dead & 19 Injured

A spokeswoman for the South African city of Cape Town says one person died after a scaffolding collapsed in high winds outside a Linkin Park concert, injuring 19 other people.

Kylie Hatton said Thursday a woman died after being taken to the hospital. She said 19 people were injured, with 12 hospitalized, after the temporary advertising structure collapsed outside the Cape Town Stadium. She said police are investigating.

The American rock band said in a statement: “We wish to express our deep sadness and concern for those injured and our heartfelt condolences to the family of the fan who died as a result of her injuries.” The band said they had no relationship with the sponsor or entity responsible for the structure.

The band will perform in Johannesburg Nov. 10.

Dicken’s Tea Tickets on Sale at North Platte Public Library

Tickets are now on sale at the library for the Dicken’s Tea in December. Similar to the Victorian Tea held in February, this sit-down tea will be a wonderful treat for those attending. They will be serving 3 different kinds of soup and bread, scones, chocolates, dessert, and cookies. This is a North Platte Public Library Foundation fundraiser. The cost is $20 per person and seating is limited to 40 at each sitting so don’t wait long to purchase tickets and miss out on this deliciously fun event!
