The 25-year-old told the crowd Thursday night that he took a small break from music and “spent some time going back to high school,” adding with excitement: “I got my high school diploma.” The crowd roared.

The Canadian singer-rapper also posted on Twitter late Wednesday that he earned a 97 percent on his final exam through work with a private tutor. He dropped out of high school, ironically, to star in the high school TV series “Degrassi: The Next Generation.”

Purr-fect Pasta Dinner

Paws-itive Partners is hosting the Purr-fect Pasta Dinner on Friday, October 26, 2012. Dinner will be served at the Masonic Temple at 1600 West B Street in North Platte beginning at 5:00 pm. Four teams of celebrity chefs are preparing a variety of Italian entrees for the public’s palate delight. Chefs from North Platte Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa, Eagle Radio and Paws-itive Partners, KNOP-TV and North Platte Police Department/North Platte Animal Shelter will vie for bragging rights as the best chef. Competition will be stiff as diners determine the winners by vote. Along with the chefs’ pasta dishes a salad, bread sticks, beverages and dessert are included. Admission to the dinner will be by free will donation.

Purr-fect Pasta Dinner is a fund raiser for “Crazy for Cats,” the name affectionately given to the project to build a Cat Room at North Platte Animal Shelter. Presently, cats entering the shelter are housed in banks of stainless steel cages. The area can get loud with noise and activity and can be upsetting to cats. Once built, the Cat Room will be in a quieter area, separated from other things happening at the shelter. Cats will be in feline-friendly cages specially designed for a less stressful stay as they await adoption. Some cats and kittens will be allowed in a commons area to climb poles, sit on ledges and lay in sunshine as they interact with other well-socialized felines. The new Cat Room will be where the shelter’s main office is now. The office will move to another portion of the building and will be larger, more efficient and more conducive to serving the public.

The public is invited and encouraged to dine at Purr-fect Pasta Dinner October 26. For those who can’t be there but would like to support “Crazy for Cats” donations can be mailed to Mid Nebraska Community Foundation in North Platte.
