Shirley Temple dies

She began acting at age 3 and became a box-office star before she was 10. Temple retired from filmmaking at 22 after marrying Charles Black and launching a new career as a diplomat. She was 85.

Prairie Arts Center Offering Additional Painting Classes

The Prairie Art Center is offering additional “Create a Canvas” classes. The one session classes offers you the opportunity to experience the joy of painting your own picture under the direction of established artists. All the necessary materials are provided for the class, NTN (no talent needed). At the end of class you take home a complete art work.

To help support the Prairie Arts Center and get class discounts join CUAC. Individual yearly dues are $25 or $40. for the family. The adult “Create a Canvas” classes are $35 for Creativity Unlimited Arts Council members or $40 for non-members.

Sandy Meyer is the instructor. Supplies will be furnished. You can bring additional embellishments- buttons, charms, wire, ribbon, etc.

Neb. Wine and Grape Growers Forum, Trade Show Set in Kearney

grape(AP) — The 17th annual Nebraska Winery and Grape Growers Forum and Trade Show later this month will feature both state and national industry experts sharing their advice on everything from growing grapes to marketing the wine they produce.

The event will be held Feb. 27 through March 1 at the Kearney Holiday Inn.

Keynote speakers include Keith Striegler, owner of Flint Ridge Winegrowing Services, who will discuss “Mechanization in the Vineyard,” and Katie Cook, enology project leader at the University of Minnesota, whose topic is “What’s New and Exciting in the University of Minnesota Grape and Wine Program.”

Danene Beedle, marketing director of the Missouri Wine and Grape Board, will also speak.

Leno’s Final ‘Tonight’ Draws 14.6 Million Viewers (VIDEO)

jay-leno(AP) — NBC says Jay Leno’s farewell “Tonight Show” drew the late-night program’s biggest audience in more than 15 years.

A total of 14.6 million viewers tuned in Thursday to see Leno wrap up his 22 years as host of “Tonight,” according to Nielsen company figures released by NBC.

The audience was the biggest since May 14, 1998, when Jerry Seinfeld appeared on “Tonight” to mark the end of his sitcom. That drew nearly 15 million viewers.

Leno’s first goodbye to “Tonight,” in 2009, had 11.9 million viewers.

“Tonight” had been averaging less than 4 million nightly viewers in the past year.

MCINTOSH

Dona M. McIntosh, 78, of North Platte, passed away Feb. 5, 2014 at her home. She was born April 5, 1935 to Sid and Marie (Staples) Walsh at North Platte. Dona graduated from North Platte High School in 1953 and later was united in marriage to Jerry McIntosh on July 3, 1953. Dona was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed researching family genealogy. She is survived by her husband, Jerry of North Platte; her children, Chris (Punky) Poff of LaCenter, WA, Robert (JoEllen) McIntosh, Kim Sorrells and Ranelle Bailey all of North Platte; two brothers, Terry (Jo) Walsh of Pocatello, ID and Jim (Sharon) Walsh of North Platte; grandchildren, Niki, Judd and Mike Keith, Kayte Gerwig, Eric and Tanner McIntosh, Brian and Emily Sorrells, Marcus and Mitchel Bailey; special friends, Maxine Mulder and Jerry Collins; and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2014 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Callihan Cancer Center at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. Cremation will follow services. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
