Kirk Reisetter

(AP) — The son of a county attorney in central Iowa has been given prison time for robbing a bank in Nebraska.

Kirk Reisetter was sentenced Monday to 15 months to 30 months in prison. He could get out earlier with credit for good time.

Reisetter pleaded guilty to robbery in connection with a September 2012 incident at the Nebraska Bank of Commerce in downtown Lincoln.

Prosecutors say Reisetter was a student at the University of Nebraska at Kearney when he entered the bank with a concealed face. He demanded money from a bank teller and left with nearly $3,000. Authorities later linked him to the robbery via security video from a nearby parking garage.

The 25-year-old is the son of Dallas County Attorney Wayne Reisetter.

Floodwaters to Cause Some Problems in Central Nebraska

floodwater(AP) — Minor flooding is likely in central Nebraska this week as the Platte River continues to swell with water from Colorado.

The floodwaters have caused problems all along the South Platte River in Nebraska since last week.

Now the National Weather Service is warning people who live near the Platte River in Cozad, Kearney, Grand Island and other communities downstream to prepare for possible flooding.

Experts are also urging everyone to avoid contact with the floodwaters which are contaminated and may carry dangerous debris.

And once the river rises, it will likely remain high for at least a day or two before receding.

The Platte River will begin rising at Overton overnight and at Elm Creek early Monday. The floodwaters will reach Kearney Monday evening.

Fall Events Encourage Tree Planting in Nebraska

retree-nebraska(AP) — Nebraskans are being encouraged to plant trees this fall to replace ones lost to drought and enhance their communities.

The ReTree Nebraska group is planning a series of events across the state starting Sunday to encourage tree planting.

And cities all across the state have pledged to plant roughly 1,000 new trees this fall during events across Nebraska.

The state’s first lady Sally Ganem says trees are an important asset for the state’s communities because of the shade and economic benefits they provide.
