Kearney Man Accused of Lighting Fire to Kill Self and Roomies

A Kearney man has been accused of trying to kill his roommates and himself by attempting to set his house on fire.

The Kearney Hub reports Brad Gladwell has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree arson. He made an initial court appearance Wednesday in Buffalo County Court.

Court records say Gladwell doused himself and his mattress with gasoline early Tuesday. His roommates smelled the gasoline and called authorities before a fire was ignited.

Gladwell remains jailed with bond set at $100,000. A hearing is scheduled for February.

The Buffalo County Public Defender’s Office says an attorney has not yet been assigned to Gladwell.

Huskers Back Home to Take On Boilermakers

Following two straight road games against ranked opposition, the Husker men’s basketball team returns home tonight to host unranked Purdue. The Huskers have lost their first four Big Ten conference games, including losses last week at second-ranked Michigan and twenty-second-ranked Michigan State. They remain without the services of Brandon Ubel, who is still out with an ankle injury, but they produced their best offensive output of the conference season in their loss to the Spartans thanks to David Rivers, who replaced Ubel in the starting lineup and scored a career-high 18 points. Purdue is just 8-8 overall but have two wins in four Big Ten games, including a win against twenty-third ranked Illinois. Tipoff at the Devaney Center is set for 8 PM. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.

Nuggets Outlast Blazers in OT

Wilson Chandler’s three-pointer with 14 seconds to play in overtime lifted the Denver Nuggets to a 115-111 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers in Denver. The win is the sixth in a row for the Nuggets, who blew a late nine-point lead in regulation but recovered to improve their home record to 15-2. Danilo Gallinari scored 25 points and Ty Lawson contributed a double-double with 24 points and 12 assists. The Nuggets are 24-16 overall. They’re at Oklahoma City tonight, with tipoff set for 7 PM.
