Giants-Rockies Game Postponed by Rain

colorado-rockiesDENVER (AP) — The game between the San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies has been rained out.

A makeup date has yet to be announced. The Giants return to Denver in late May for a three-game series.

Sunday’s matchup was scrubbed about two hours before the scheduled start. Right-hander Tim Lincecum (1-1) had been set to take the mound for San Francisco against lefty Tyler Matzek (1-0) of Colorado.

The rainout came on the 20th anniversary of opening day at Coors Field on April 26, 1995. Colorado brought in several former players for the occasion, including Larry Walker.

Ynoa, Butler send Rockies to 6-4 Win over Giants

colorado-rockiesDENVER (AP) — Pinch-hitter Rafael Ynoa snapped a sixth-inning tie with an RBI double, Eddie Butler was backed by stellar defense over six shaky innings and the Colorado Rockies beat the San Francisco Giants 6-4 on Friday night.

Charlie Blackmon added a solo homer and DJ LeMahieu drove in two runs as Colorado beat the defending World Series champions for a fourth straight time this season. The Rockies swept a three-game series last week in which they limited the Giants to three runs. San Francisco matched that total by the third inning.

Butler (2-1) labored most of the way with only one clean inning. He allowed four runs, but worked his way out of trouble thanks to some nifty fielding, especially from Nolan Arenado and Blackmon.

Yost Insists Royals Not to Blame for String of Fights

CHICAGO (AP) — Manager Ned Yost insists his Kansas City Royals are not to blame for a string of fights and that opponents are mostly at fault.

Yost says his team has not started “any of this.” He says opponents are trying to get under his players’ skin and that his team has to remain composed.

Yost spoke before Friday’s game against the Chicago White Sox, a day after the teams were involved in a benches-clearing melee that resulted in five players being ejected. It could also lead to discipline from the league.

The defending AL champion Royals were leading the Central division at 12-4. But while the wins are mounting, so are the skirmishes.

The latest was at the end of the seventh inning Thursday, when Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura snagged a grounder by Adam Eaton and the men appeared to have words.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Kansas City Royals have recalled left-hander Brandon Finnegan from Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Finnegan was the 17th overall pick in last year’s draft. He had a 1.29 ERA in seven regular-season appearances with the Royals in 2014, and then went 1-1 with a 10.50 ERA in seven postseason games.

The 22-year-old Finnegan was 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in two starts with Northwest Arkansas at the time of the promotion. Royals manager Ned Yost said Finnegan will work as a reliever with the major league club.

Kansas City used five relievers in a 13-inning victory at the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night.

The Royals also optioned infielder Orlando Calixte to Triple-A Omaha on Friday. Calixte was hitless in two at-bats for the Royals.
