Carlos-Gonzalez-Rockies-CarPHOENIX (AP) — The Colorado Rockies have placed outfielder Carlos Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list with left knee tendinitis and a sprained right ankle.

Gonzalez left Friday’s game at Arizona after going 0 for 3 with three strikeouts. It is his second trip to the DL this season after inflammation in his left index finger sidelined the slugger for five weeks.

Gonzalez is batting .238 with 11 homers and 38 RBIs in only 70 games this season.

The Rockies recalled outfielder-first baseman Ben Paulsen from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Sunday to replace Gonzalez on the roster.

The Rockies came apart in the bottom half of the inning with two errors, a passed ball and a wild pitch. Colorado also walked in a run and Peralta capped the eight-hit inning with his first career grand slam over the pool in right-center.

Alfredo Marte added a solo homer. Cliff Pennington had three of Arizona’s 15 hits and scored three runs.

The Royals have won nine of 10 to move within 1 1-2 games of AL Central-leading Detroit. The Royals, who have not made the playoffs since beating St. Louis in the 1985 World Series, are in second place in the AL wild card standings.

Shields (11-6) gave up three singles in the first four innings. He allowed only two Giants to reach second base. He walked Joe Panik in the fifth and he moved to second on a wild pitch with two outs, but was stranded. Panik doubled in the eighth.

It was Shields’ ninth career shutout, his first since Sept. 9, 2012.

Tim Hudson (8-9) gave up a home run to Gordon to lead off the fifth inning.

The rookie hit a run-scoring triple off Rex Brothers then caught the Rockies off-guard, racing home when catcher Michael McKenry lobbed the ball back to the mound. Peralta is the sixth Arizona player to steal home, first since Chris Young in 2007.

Chase Anderson (7-4) pitched five solid innings, giving up a leadoff homer to McKenry in the fifth inning and little else.

Butler, who is hitting .423 in the past seven games, homered with two out in the first off Madison Burgarner (13-9).

Butler singled home the go-ahead run in the two-run sixth, which was aided by throwing errors on Giants infielders Michael Morse and Matt Duffy. Alex Gordon had an RBI single.

The Giants scored twice in the third on Joaquin Arias’ double and Matt Duffy’s single.

Judge: Trial Can Decide Fate of MLB Video Monopoly

mlb bigNEW YORK (AP) — A judge in New York says a small group of fans suing Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League to stop their strict control over television broadcast rights can try to prove their claims at trial.

Federal Judge Shira Scheindlin issued her written ruling Friday.

She said a trial would help show whether the leagues were accurate in claiming the restrictions are good for the sports and their fans.

The lawsuit claims that the leagues’ clubs and some television broadcast entities collude to eliminate competition in the showing of games on the Internet and television.

The fans seek a court declaration that the defendants engage in antitrust behavior and appropriate remedies, including unspecified damages.

Messages left with lawyers seeking comment were not immediately returned.

Baez led off the sixth inning with a shot down the left-field line against starter Yohan Flande (0-4). Baez hit a two-run shot off reliever Juan Nicasio into the Colorado bullpen in right in the eighth.

Castro followed Baez’s shot in the sixth with his 12th home run. It was the fourth time this season Chicago has hit back-to-back homers.

Hendricks pitched a career-high eight innings after the start of the game was delayed 39 minutes because of rain.

2 Girls May Play in Little League Regional Final

Little League Baseball LogoBRISTOL, Conn. (AP) — Kayla Roncin and Mo’ne (moh-NAY’) Davis are competing to make it to the Little League World Series, a rare feat for girls. But to get there, one girl’s team may have to knock off the other’s.

Mo’ne is a star pitcher for Taney Youth Baseball Association Little League in Philadelphia, while Kayla typically plays first base for her team in Toms River, New Jersey, and is known for her solid hitting and fielding. If their teams win Friday in the semifinals in Bristol, they’ll face each other Sunday in the regional championship to advance to the World Series next week in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

A Little League spokesman says it may be the first time two girls are competing at the same time in the regional tournament for a World Series spot.
