Faried Scores 30 Points, Nuggets beat Kings 122-111

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Kenneth Faried scored a season-high 30 points and the Denver Nuggets spoiled George Karl’s return to Denver, beating the Sacramento Kings 122-111 on Sunday.

Wilson Chandler had 21 points and nine rebounds for the Nuggets in their home finale. At 19-22, Denver had a losing record at Pepsi Center for the first time since 2002-03.

That was two years before Karl arrived and turned around the struggling franchise. He won 423 games in nine seasons on the Denver bench, but was fired after losing in the first round of the 2013 playoffs. The Nuggets won a franchise-record 57 games that season and he was the NBA Coach of the Year, but his team failed to win a postseason series for the eighth time in nine years.

Omri Casspi had 22 points to lead the Kings. Sacramento has lost three straight and eight of nine.

Danilo Gallinari scored a career-high 47 points, including eight in the first overtime and nine in the second.

Denver had a chance to win in regulation, but Faried’s jumper rolled off the rim. Dallas had a shot to claim victory at the end of the first overtime, only to have Monta Ellis’ long shot clang off the iron.

Dirk Nowitzki had 25 points and Richard Jefferson added a season-high 24.

The players are Jordan Mills from Alliance, Neb., Diontae Champion from Arlington Texas, and Tim Wagner from Galesville, Wis.

I think he (Mills) will do well in North Platte.  It will be a challenge for him because North Platte is very competitive in the JUCO ranks. It will really show Jordan what he needs to do for his game to get to a four-year school and find out how good he is.”

Champion, a 6’ 7” forward from Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas averaged 19 points a game, 12 rebounds a game and three blocks per game.

Lamar head basketball coach Zach Burks said: “Diontae is a good kid and plays hard.  He was our best defender, and I would often put him on the opposing team’s best offensive player.”

Wagner Is a 6’ 2” guard from Galesville, Wis.  Wagner redshirted at the University of Nebraska during the 2013 -14 season because of an injury.  He transferred to Winona State in Minnesota.  Wagner played in 27 games and averaged 8.9 points a game, 2.3 rebounds per game and 1.8 rebounds per game this past season.

NCAA Tourney Head Says Refs Should Have Been More Patient

Final Four 2015INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — NCAA vice president of men’s basketball Dan Gavitt says the referees Monday night in the national championship game had access to television replays on a crucial play in the last 2 minutes but had already decided to give the ball to Duke when CBS showed a magnified view of the play.

The NCAA Tournament head says the referees should have been a little more “patient” before making the ruling after Wisconsin’s Bronson Koenig missed a layup with 1:54 left and the Badgers trailing 63-58.

In a scramble for the rebound, the referees initially ruled it went off a Wisconsin player even though replays appeared to show the ball was clearly touched by a Duke play. But the call was not reversed, and the Blue Devils went on to win 68-63.
