Dillon Thompson and his crew capture a priceless memory in the winners circle after winning the Jeremy Trompke Memorial IMCA Hobby Stock Feature on Sunday night at Dawson County Raceway in Lexington, Nebraska.

The racing action was smoking hot at Dawson County Raceway in Lexington, Nebraska on Sunday as competitors jostled for position with limited events remaining, seeking the most points possible to snare post season accolades and the honor of winning the Jeremy Trompke Memorial hardware.

Earning trips to the winners circle on Sunday evening to take home the coveted Trompke trophies were: Colton Osborn, Chad Dolan, Kevin Safranek, Mike Nichols, Dillon Thompson and Brad Bayne.

Leading the final five laps was enough for Colton Osborn of Cozad to claim the checkered flags in the IMCA Modified Feature event. Osborn started in the fourth row and was able to work his way into contention just past the halfway point of the race. Leading the most laps in the event was the runner-up finisher Cale Osborn of Cozad. Cale grabbed the lead on the fifth lap and was the point until his brother Colton snared the lead on the 15th circuit. Cale Osborn put the pressure on Colton Osborn for the waning laps, but was forced to settle for second place. The Eddyville Flyer Chuck Stryker started on the front row and staying in contention throughout the event to earn third place honors. Jay Steffens of North Platte and Cozad’s Steve Aitken were the earlier in the evening heat race winners.

Hitting a hot streak, Gibbon’s Chad Dolan darted to the lead on the opening lap from his fourth row starting position and never looked back, despite the abundance of caution flags that flew during the IMCA Northern Sport Modified Feature. Dolan led all 20 laps of the feature to earn the victory. Jamey Kennicutt of Gothenburg drove from the fifth row starting position to earn a podium finish, along with putting heavy pressure on eventual victor Dolan in the waning laps. Kennicutt crossed the stripe in second place overall. The ‘Ageless Wonder’ Denny Egge of Kearney was high on the steering wheel to drive his hotrod to a third place finish, coming from the fifth row starting position. Dolan and Hunter Cantrell were the heat race winners in the division.

Powering his way to the front and showing great driving prowess was veteran wheelman Kevin Safranek of Merna to win the Grand National Late Model checkered flag. Safranek claimed the lead on the 14th lap and he never looked back to earn the victory. Finishing with the fury to put the pressure cooker on Safranek was Dylan Schmer of Aurora, who was forced to settle for second place honors. Early leader Brandon Leonard of Gibbon paced the field for the initial 13 circuits, fell off the pace of the leaders, but recovered quite nicely with a third place finish. Josh Leonard of Gibbon and Hastings hotshoe Jarred Hackler won the earlier heat races in the division.

Wasting no time to get to the front and pace the field was Mike Nichols of Harlan Iowa as he earned the victory in the IMCA Stock Car Feature in fine fashion. Nichols drove his way to the lead on the third lap and he was able to remain in front throughout the remainder of the event. Casey Werkmeister of Maywood was the runner-up finisher as he worked through traffic to earn the second place honor, after starting in the rear of the field at the onset. Coming home third overall and earning a podium finish was the ‘Flying Farmer’ Kyle Clough of Wallace. Clough started in the fourth row and was able to dart into contention early and avoid incidents to earn the trip to the podium. Nichols was joined by Lexington’s Darin Racek in claiming heat race victories.

Earning the big payday in the Jeremy Trompke Memorial event was Dillon Thompson of Campbell, as he won the IMCA Feature in the Hobby Stock division. Thompson was able to drive his way to the lead on the fifth lap and despite heavy pressure from challengers was able to hold down the fort and earn the victory. Early leader Robert Leonard of Gibbon was second overall after leading the first four laps. Beatrice hotshoe Adam Armstrong started in the third row and he was able to show great consistency to avoid incidents and earn a show position finish on the podium. Sal Hernandez of Columbus and Colton Pfeifer of Stockton, Kansas rounded out the top five finishers in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Nearing the halfway point, the time was now for Brad Bayne of Greeley, Colorado to power his way to the lead and never relinquish the lead and earn the Outlaw Vintage Lites Series victory at Dawson County Raceway. Bayne was inside the top five from the onset, but it wasn’t until the sixth lap that he drove to the point and never looked back. Crossing the stripe second overall was Brandon Vantine of Milford. Vantine led a trio of laps in the early going and didn’t waver in earning the podium finish. Doug Pollock of Tekamah was third overall. Brad Bayne and his father Duane Bayne earned heat race wins in the division. Greeley, Colorado veteran driver Duane Bayne went for a wild ride, rolling numerous times off of turn four during the feature event.

Dawson County Raceway Results – Sunday August 3

Sunday night stock winner: Casey Werkmeister
Sunday night stock winner: Casey Werkmeister

Lighting up the night sky were the IMCA Superstars that compete at Dawson County Raceway along with the visiting Great Plains IMCA Stock Car Series that rocketed around dirt oval in Lexington, Nebraska on Sunday evening.

The big winner in the stock car division was Casey Werkmeister of Maywood, Nebraska. Werkmeister was joined by Kyle Rohleder, Chad Dolan and Dillon Thompson in the winners circle.

Completing the sweep was easier said than done for Casey Werkmeister, as the Maywood Missle captured the win in the Feature, Pole Dash and his heat race for the IMCA Stock Cars. By winning the Pole Dash, Werkmeister chose to pocket the cash for the win and invert the top twelve starting positions in the feature event. It took Werkmeister most of the Feature to work through traffic, but he led the laps that meant the most in leading the final five laps to capture the victory. On the back bumper of the winner, Mike Nichols of Harlan, Iowa was second overall in the Feature, after leading the four laps prior to Werkmeister snaring the lead. Lance Borgman of Beatrice, Nebraska started inside the top five and was able to stay away from incidents and was able to earn a podium finish in third place overall. Jason Rogers of Selden, Kansas and Maywood’s Kyle Werkmeister rounded out the top five finishers in the feature.

Winning his second straight feature at DCR in the IMCA Modified division was Kyle Rohleder of Wakeeney, Kansas. Rohleder has hit a hot streak at the Lexington oval, with his third feature win of the 2014 season after he drove around the cushion to gain the lead on the sixth place to cruise to the victory. Clay Sellard of Ellis, Kansas was able to work his way into contention from his fifth row starting position to net a runner-up finish. Jeremy Herbst of North Platte, Nebraska was the early leader from the onset and he was able to stay among the frontrunners to earn the third place accolades.

Getting to the front early and avoiding traffic, Chad Dolan of Gibbon, Nebraska powered his way to the IMCA Northern Sport Modified Feature win. Dolan got to the front and led the fourth lap by less than a fender, before relinquishing the lead to Dillon Schultz of North Platte. By the eighth lap, Dolan had regained the lead and this time he would not look back as he was smooth sailing to the checkered flag finish.

During a seventh lap traffic jam, Dillon Thompson of Campbell darted from the smoke and into the lead to hold onto the victory in the IMCA Hobby Stock division. Thompson snared the lead on the seventh lap and was able to hold off the tough challenge on his rear bumper for the remainder of the feature event. Kyle Bond of Gibbon, Nebraska was high on the wheel from the onset and was able to earn a runner-up finish. In his best finish of the 2014 season at DCR, Ryan Gardine of Bertrand, Nebraska was third overall in the feature, after leading the first six laps of the event.

The racing action will continue to be action-packed this coming week, as the IMCA drivers pilot their hotrods in hopes of earning a trip to the winners circle on Jeremy Trompke Memorial Night at Dawson County Raceway this Sunday, August 10th.

Dawson County Raceway Results – July 13

Dawson-County-Raceway-ResulThe racers that compete at Dawson County Raceway went way beyond the expectations of the fans in the stands in presenting an encore-racing program that rivaled the fireworks shows displayed on the Independence Day holiday on Sunday evening in Lexington, Nebraska.

Lightning up the night with their stellar efforts that resulted in trips to the winners circle were IMCA hotshoes: Colton Osborn, Brandon Clough, Casey Werkmeister, Kyle Bond and Grand National veteran Josh Leonard on Sunday.

Grabbing the lead at the halfway point, the Cozad cruiser Colton Osborn was able to power his way to the IMCA Modified Feature victory. Osborn snared the lead on the 11th circuit and never looked back after starting in the fifth row. Close behind Colton was brother Cale Osborn in second place overall, after he started in the fourth row and had a strong final five laps to earn runner-up accolades. Making the long-haul from Lincoln was worth it, as Mike Densberger was among the leaders throughout the feature and his efforts to avoid incidents resulted in a third place finish. Densberger along with Chuck Stryker of Eddyville were the earlier in the evening heat race winners.

Doing his best to trump the field, Gibbon’s Josh Leonard swept the checkered flags in the Grand National races that he competed in on Sunday. In the Feature, Leonard went to the cushion and was on a rail like a runaway freight train, as he refused to lose and drove away for the victory. Jarred Hackler of Hastings started in the third row, but was quickly in contention for a podium finish and his efforts paid off with a runner-up finish. Veteran wheelman Robbie Leonard was third overall in the Feature after winning his initial heat race earlier in the evening.

Breaking through to the top of the podium in the IMCA Northern Sport Modified division with his first Feature win of 2014 at Dawson County Raceway was Brandon Clough of Wallace. Clough has been a mainstay inside the top five and flirted with winning but it was his night this time around as he scored the win from his front row starting position. Continuing his hot streak on ovals in Southwest Nebraska, Jamey Kennicutt of Gothenburg was the runner-up as he was able to drive to the podium from his fourth row starting position during the early laps to avoid accidents deep in the field. Making a late charge from his fourth row starting position, the Ageless Wonder, Denny Egge of Kearney was third overall with a strong final five laps.  Clough and Kennicutt were the heat race winners in the division.

No stranger to the winners circle, Casey Werkmeister recovered quite nicely from a setback earlier in the weekend where he blew up a motor to finished with back-to-back feature wins in the IMCA Stock Car division in North Platte on Saturday and Lexington on Sunday. Werkmeister darted to the front on the fifth lap, after getting a great start to be among the leaders just prior to the fifth circuit. Making a late charge and challenging for the lead in the waning laps was Cozad’s Colton Osborn, who was forced to settle for runner-up honors. Leading the initial four laps of the feature was Jeff Whiting of Gothenburg, who was able to stay up on the wheel and pedal his way to a third place finish. Whiting and Werkmeister were the heat race winners in the Stock Car division.

Doing their best to put on the best show possible for the fans in the stands, fan favorites Dillon Thompson and Kyle Bond put on a whale of show along with Tiffany Bittner, as the trio ran away and hid from the rest of the field of IMCA Hobby Stocks on Sunday. Bond of Gibbon was able to drive his way to the point on the second circuit and never look back to claim the victory. Close behind with many challenges for the lead was Thompson of Campbell, who crossed the finish line in second place overall.  Having to come from deep, as a result of getting stuck in traffic, Norfolk’s Tiffany Bittner closed the gap in the waning laps with fast lap times to finish third overall.

Dawson County Raceway Results – June 29

Dawson-County-Raceway-ResulGetting their chance to shine in the limelight as a result of conquering the Dawson County Raceway oval to claim the checkered flag on Sunday night at Lexington, Nebraska were: Kyle Rohleder, Tyler Andreasen, Jamey Kennicutt, Mike Nichols and Kyle Bond.

No stranger to Dawson County Raceway is Kyle Rohleder of Wakeeney, Kansas; but his first visit of the 2014 season was dynamic, as he snared the lead on the eighth circuit by riding the cushion around the top of the oval from his fifth row starting position. Rohleder was able to drive away from the field to cruise to the IMCA Modified victory. Rohleder was able to pass Cale Osborn of Cozad for the lead on the eighth lap, Osborn was the leader from the third lap until that point by driving around the short way of Dawson County Raceway right outside the inside berm. Osborn was able to stay among the front runners and earn second place honors. Ogallala hotshoe Cole Hodges started in the third row and was able to chip away throughout in the top five to cross the finish line in third place overall. Osborn and fellow Cozad veteran driver Steve Aitken won the earlier in the night heat races for the Modifieds.

Mr. Excitement, Tyler Andreasen of Grand Island gained speed and momentum throughout the Grand National Late Model feature and was able to drive to the lead just past the halfway point and power to the victory. Andreasen started in the third row and was able to find the racing groove that worked well with his hotrod, as he found himself among the top five throughout the first half of the race. Kevin Safranek of Merna finished second place overall after holding the point from the second lap until Andreasen captured the lead from the veteran wheelman. Hastings’ Tom Kubicka crossed the finish line in third place, as he to the front from his fifth row starting slot. Andreasen and Josh Leonard of Gibbon were the heat race winners in the division. Leonard led the first laps of the feature until losing a drivers side rear tire, dashing his hopes to an elite finish on Sunday.

Getting his car to drive through the corners with flexibility in all racing grooves has proved to be very valuable for Gothenburg’s Jamey Kennicutt as he grapped the lead on the fourth lap and never looked back. Kennicutt won the IMCA Northern Sport Modified Feature yet again, along with his heat race. Ageless wonder Denny Egge of Kearney battled through the traffic from his fifth row starting position to finish second overall in the feature event after also winning a heat race earlier in the evening. Reigning division season points champion Chad Dolan of Gibbon was third overall. Casey Clausen of Grand Island and Curtis’ Rubber Duck Bryan Herrick claimed fourth and fifth place accolades in the feature.

Smiling from ear to ear, Harlan, Iowa’s Mike Nichols was money in the bank while riding around the top groove at Dawson County Raceway to earn the Feature victory in the IMCA Stock Car division. Nichols grabbed the lead on the fifth lap and led the rest of the way despite heavy pressure at different times throughout the highlight filled event. In Nichols’ rearview mirror back looking to make a move throughout the feature was Casey Werkmeister of Maywood. Werkmeister tried to work his magic with no avail, as he was forced to settle with runner-up honors. Flyin’ Farmer Kyle Clough of Wallace was third overall in his Chevy Monte Carlo, after earning a win the prior night in Holyoke, Colorado. Nichols, Clough and Kyle Werkmeister of Maywood were victorious in earlier in the event heat races for Stock Cars.

Breaking through for his second straight IMCA Hobby Stock feature win was the Gibbon Gambler, Kyle Bond. Bond is a wily veteran that was able to lead the final 10 laps of the feature to earn the victory from his fourth row starting spot. Three-time IMCA Lady Eagle Champion Tiffany Bittner of Norfolk was the runner-up after leading three laps in the early going of the feature event. Dillon Thompson of Campbell was high on the wheel to drive inside the top five and be among the leaders from his fifth row starting slot. Rounding out the top five in the feature were Travis Kernick of Kearney and Robert Leonard of Gibbon in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Dawson County Raceway Results – June 15

Dawson-County-Raceway-ResulRunning like the wind is an understatement when circling the Dawson County Raceway oval in Lexington, Nebraska as the IMCA divisions were joined by the Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) series to put the fans in the stands on the edge of their seats on Sunday evening.

No stranger to victory lane, Kyle Berck of Marquette, Nebraska won his third straight Feature event when the SLMR series visits Lexington’s Dawson County Raceway. Berck cashed in with passing points in the heat race to start on the outside of row one and he darted like a missile to the lead and was working through lap traffic when the lone yellow flew with less than 10 laps remaining. Berke led from the beginning until the checkered flag, with heavy pressure being applied in the waning laps by Justin Zeitner of LaVista, Nebraska who was forced to settle for second place after winning an opening night heat race and drawing the inside row three starting slot. Staying among the leaders throughout the contest with great consistency, Corey Zeitner of Omaha, Nebraska earned a podium finish in third place. Rocketing around the Lexington oval with success, Bill Leighton Jr of Omaha and Hasting hotshoe Justin Gregg finished fourth and fifth in the fast-paced Feature event.

Grabbing the lead on lap six on a very dry-slick oval, Veteran pilot David Murray Jr of Oberlin, Kansas cashed in on the opportunity and was able to hold off all challengers to claim his second straight IMCA Modified Feature at Dawson County Raceway. Earning the hardcharger award for the division was Colton Osborn of Cozad, as he earned runner-up honors after starting in the sixth row at the drop of the green flag. Holding the lead before Murray took the point was Cozad’s Cale Osborn on laps four and five. Osborn continued to battle on the oval with stellar driving to earn third place accolades. Jeremy Herbst of North Platte was the early leader from the onset. Murray and Cale Osborn won the early heat races in the division.

In the shuffle near the front of the field, Jamey Kennicutt of Gothenburg was able to persevere and then drive away with the Feature victory in the IMCA Northern Sport Mod main event. Kennicutt led the final eight laps of the feature after starting in the fifth row of the feature. Rallying to the front during the waning laps of the feature was Kearney’s Denny Egge. Egge started in the fifth row along side Kennicutt. Jumping the cushion in the second corner could have been costly, but it was veteran Chad Dolan of Gibbon that stayed with his lines and was able to cross the finish line in third place. Dolan and Kennicutt were the heat race victors.

Getting collected in early lap incidents wasn’t enough to halt the progress of Mike Nichols to claim the Feature victory in the IMCA Stock Car division. Nichols of Harlan, Iowa was able to garner the lead by less than a fender on the seventh lap and he continued to pace the field throughout the rest of the main event. The ‘Flyin Farmer’ Kyle Clough of Wallace started in the fifth row and took over the runner-up position where he would finish when Cozad’s Colton Osborn pulled into the pits on a yellow flag after driving from the eleventh row to second place. Clough put heavy pressure on Nichols on the final circuits. The leader during the early stages of the feature was Casey Woken of Ogallala and he was able to earn a podium finish in third place in the feature, his best finish at Dawson County Raceway this year. Winning preliminary heat races in the division were: Casey Werkmeister of Maywood, Bob Chalupa of McCook and Gothenburg’s Jeff Whiting.

Leaving no doubt, Gibbon’s Kyle Bond was high on the wheel to drive away and hide in the front of the field to earn another podium finish in the IMCA Hobby Stock Feature, his first win at DCR in 2014.  Bond tip-toed through the competition until he snared the lead on lap six to drive away and hide after winning the night’s heat race along with Tiffany Bittner. Caleb Hetrick of Grand Island earned a runner-up finish in the feature during his first full-time season at Dawson County Raceway. Rounding out your podium finishers was Campbell’s Dillon Thompson in third place overall.

Jason Martin of Lincoln, Nebraska was the winner of the URSS Feature event on Sunday night at Dawson County Raceway in Lexington, Nebraska.

Perseverance and hardwork paid off by the drivers and crews as they were able to ward off the weather threats to dash the evening of racing at Dawson County Raceway in Lexington, Nebraska with an IMCA show and United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS) special that featured three-wide racing that kept the fans in the stands on the edge of their seats on Sunday evening.

Leading the lap that mattered the most was Jason Martin of Lincoln, Nebraska as he executed a slide job with success through corners three and four on the final lap to earn the URSS Feature win. Martin started in the fifth row and earned the hard charger award for his efforts. North Platte, Nebraska hotshoe John Webster snared the lead on the second lap and was flying high in pacing the field all the way through lap traffic, as he was scary fast to lead until lap 24 when Martin passed Webster and won the drag race to the finish line. Staying consistent throughout the feature event was Luke Cranston of Plains, Kansas; as he avoided incident by running in the top five from beginning to end from his outside second row starting position to earn a podium finish in third place. Steve Richardson of Liberal, Kansas along with Webster were the heat race victors.

Grabbing the lead on lap 14, veteran David Murray Jr. of Oberlin, Kansas was able to hold off the challengers in the final laps to add another IMCA Modified feature victory to his mantle. Murray started in the second row and was among the leaders throughout, as he was able to power past Jay Steffens of North Platte who led the initial 13 laps of the event and never relinquish his run to the checkered flag.  Cole Hodges of Ogallala was high on the wheel to pilot his hotrod to a runner-up finish from his third row starting position. Charging to the front from a fourth row-starting position, with a gumption-powered start was Colton Osborn of Cozad. Jay Steffens and McCook’s Ronnie Wallace claimed heat race victories in the division.

Fast at the finish was Chad Dolan of Gibbon in pacing the field during the final five laps to earn a IMCA Northern Sport Modified Feature victory. Dolan started in the third row to be within striking distance from the onset of the feature event. Runner-up finisher Jamey Kennicutt was the leader prior to Dolan, as the Gothenburg hotshoe snared the lead on the sixth circuit. Chad Young of Ogallala drove his way onto the podium to finish third from a deep in the field, seventh row starting position. Kennicutt and Denny Egge of Kearney were the heat race winners.

Breaking through for the feature victory in the IMCA Stock Car division was North Platte fan-favorite Mikey Dancer. Dancer was up on the wheel with gumption in leading the final 11 laps of an accident-riddled feature. Colton Osborn was able to work the top and bottom grooves to finish second overall and hold off the challenges from Harlan, Iowa’s Mike Nichols, who finished third in the spotlighted event. Osborn and Dancer were joined by Cale Osborn of Cozad in winning heat races in the division.

Doing the unthinkable in one of the most competitive divisions in Lexington, Overton’s Jacob Olmstead led from the beginning to take the checkered flag in the IMCA Hobby Stock Feature. Olmstead started on the outside of the first row to earn the early edge that resulted in a victory. Campbell’s Dillon Thompson earned runner-up honors. Olmstead, Thompson and Gibbon’s Kyle Bond were three-wide for many laps in the closing circuits of the feature, before a tough-break sent Bond to the rear of the field on a yellow flag. Getting into the mix on the final laps was Tiffany Bittner of Norfolk, as she earned third place honors. Thompson and Bittner started their nights off right with heat race wins.

The race action is red-hot at the Dawson County Raceway, where only the best go three abreast with IMCA divisions being joined by Super Late Model Racing Assocation (SLMR) hotrods this coming Sunday, June 15th. Gates open at 5 p.m. with the drop of the green flag at 6:30 p.m.

Dawson County Raceway Results

Dawson County RacewayGetting their 2014 season at Dawson County Raceway started off right with a trip to the winners circle was Colton Osborn, Jamey Kennicutt, Mike Nichols and Dillon Thompson on Sunday night in Lexington.

It was an Osborn night in the IMCA Modified division with Colton Osborn of Cozad leading the final ten laps of the feature to cruise to the victory. Osborn started in the inside of row four and showed great patience and prospered with a car that handled quite well from the top to the bottom of the race track. Osborn took over the lead from his brother Cale Osborn of Cozad on lap 10, as a result of Cale getting a new right rear tire after leading the initial nine laps of the contest. Charging forward after a slow start, Ronnie Wallace of McCook was setup to be fast at the right time as he passed into the runner-up position in the last eight laps of the race to finish second overall. Veteran hotshoe David Murrary Jr. of Oberlin, Kansas showcased great consistency to avoid incidents and earn a podium finish in third place. Both Colton and Cale Osborn claimed heat race wins.

In a very competitive race, Jamey Kennicutt of Gothenburg was able to stay near the front throughout the Feature for the IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds to lead the most important laps to earn a season opening victory. Heat race victor Kennicutt started in the fourth row and worked his way into the lead on lap six, as he was dueling with runner-up Denny Egge of Kearney throughout the contest. Kennicutt and Egge were the only two drivers to lead a lap. Heat race winner Egge led the first five laps and the four laps just prior to the white flag being waved. Working the high groove with precision was North Platte’s Zach Schultz with a third place finish from his fourth row starting position.

No stranger to victory lane; Mike Nichols of Harlan, Iowa started on the pole and never trailed in the heated-battles of the IMCA Stock Car Feature. Nichols did have company in the front of the field, but Nichols showed great prowess and ability to snare the victory. Mikey Dancer of North Platte, piloted his Chevy Monte Carlo to a stellar second place finish, after dropping back early on and charging forward with gumption in the closing laps. Reigning season track champion Casey Werkmeister of Maywood was ‘en fuego’ with his new set of wheels rolling up a third place finish. Nichols, Werkmeister and Colton Osborn of Cozad claimed heat race wins in early evening action of the Stock Car division.

In the closest finish of the night, Dillon Thompson of Campbell was the victor by the slimmest of margins over Kyle Bond of Gibbon to earn the first place hardware in the IMCA Hobby Stock division on opening night. Heat race victor Thompson led the first 13 laps and then led the lap that matters the most by less than the length of a fender. Heat race winner Kyle Bond stormed forward from his fourth row starting position to earn the runner-up honors. Bond led the white flag lap and for many laps prior had turned circuits with Thompson in his crosshairs. Having the best seat in the house watching Bond and Thompson duel was the Wilcox wheelman, Anthony Martin who finished third overall. Martin was in the mix from the drop of the green flag to earn the checkered flag honors.

Racing action returns to the fast-paced 3/8 mile dirt oval on the Dawson County Fairgrounds on Sunday, May 11th. Gates open at 5 p.m. with the drop of the green flag being at 6:30 p.m.

Dawson County Raceway Results August 11

Dawson-County-Raceway-ResulThe race nights are dwindling down on the 2013 season at Dawson County Raceway and Sunday evening was very evident, as racers were scratching the itch of picking up the most points possible in the IMCA divisions to circle the oval in Lexington, Nebraska along with the visiting Grand National Late Models.
Cashing in on the opportunity of making a trip to the winners circle and maxing out on available points to be scored was Jeremy Frenier, Mike Nichols, Chad Dolan, Tiffany Bittner and David Dembowski along with late model hotshot Robert Leonard.
Working flawlessly through traffic was the formula for success for Robert Leonard  of Gibbon, Nebraska as he stayed within striking distance of early leader Jarred Hackler of Hastings from the drop of the green flag. Leonard would work his way into the lead with just under 10 laps remaining to drive away with the victory in the Grand National Late Model division. Putting together a rally in the waning laps to earn runner-up honors was Merna veteran wheelman Kevin Safranek. No stranger to Dawson County Raceway, Josh Leonard of Gibbon finished strong to the tune of a third place finish. Les Siebert of York, the Cash Dash winner and early leader Hackler capped off the top five with fourth and fifth place finishes.
Wasting no time to get to the front, Jeremy Frenier of Fort Morgan, Colorado grabbed the lead on the fifth circuit and never looked back, despite the hungry challengers that were on his back bumper numerous times through the feature. Frenier claimed the victory in the IMCA Modified division on Sunday. Making a valiant effort to drive past Frenier was Cozad, Nebraska hotshoe Colton Osborn, who was forced to settle with runner-up accolades. Osborn started in the seventh row. Leading the initial laps of the contest was third place finisher Charley Brown of Maxwell, Nebraska.
Continuing to find his way to the winners circle was Chad Dolan of Gibbon in the IMCA Northern Sport Modified division.
Dolan led the final six laps to claim the checkered flag. Bryan Herrick avoided being collected in the big accident near the halfway point and was able to drive his way to runner-up honors. Earning a podium finish for his efforts was Dean Wilkinson of Oakdale, Nebraska in third place overall. North Platte’s Dillon Schulz was the early leader until the restart at the conclusion of lap 13 during the feature event that collected Schulz and many others in a turn one incident.
Reaching an elite milestone, Harlan, Iowa veteran wheelman Mike Nichols drove his way to the point on the third lap and would not be denied in notching his 300th IMCA Stock Car Feature victory. The victory did not come easy for Nichols, as he was challenged throughout the course of the feature by Maywood, Nebraska’s Casey Werkmeister who would cross the finish line in second place overall. Kyle Werkmeister of Maywood was third overall with a stellar drive from his fourth row starting position.
For the second consecutive week it was Tiffany Bittner of Norfolk, Nebraska’s world and the rest of the IMCA Hobby Stock contenders were in her rear view mirror in the final laps. Bittner won her heat race in fine fashion and would snare the lead in the feature after snaring the lead on then final two laps to claim the victory. Looking to challenge for the top spot was fourth row starter Anthony Martin of Wilcox, Nebraska. Martin was rocketing around the oval but his efforts for the lead ran out of laps, as he earned second place accolades. Trying his best to hold his hotrod on the cushion was Dillon Thompson of Campbell, Nebraska and his efforts would be rewarded with a show position finish in the feature.
Leading the laps that mattered the most was Grand Island’s David Dembowski in the IMCA Sport Compacts feature, as he drove to the front on the white flag lap and held ship to conquer the checkered flag. Crossing the stripe in second place after leading the first 10 laps was Zach Olmstead of Overton, Nebraska. Developing great consistency on the Lexington oval, David Earhart was rewarded for his efforts with third place accolades.
Racing action will returning to the fast-paced 3/8th mile oval on the Dawson County Fairgrounds with a Fan Appreciation Night as well as the five IMCA divisions will compete for top season honors during the Championship Night of racing on Sunday, gates open at 5 p.m. with the first green flag scheduled to drop at 6:30 p.m.Unofficial Results:
