Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Kenneth Faried scored a career-high 32 points, Ty Lawson had 30 and the Denver Nuggets beat the skidding Los Angeles Lakers 134-126 on Friday night.

Wilson Chandler had 19 points, and Timofey Mozgov and Evan Fournier added 13 apiece for the Nuggets, who swept the three-game season series.

Pau Gasol scored 27 points to lead the Lakers in their third straight defeat and sixth in eight games. This one ensured their first losing season since going 34-48 in 2004-05.

Jordan Farmar and Robert Sacre had 24 points apiece for the Lakers, who were coming off a 142-94 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday. The 48-point defeat was the biggest in franchise history.

Nuggets End Skid by Beating Mavericks 115-110

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Wilson Chandler scored 21 points, Ty Lawson had 20, and the Denver Nuggets snapped a six-game losing streak by beating the Dallas Mavericks 115-110 on Wednesday night.

Kenneth Faried, Randy Foye and J.J. Hickson added 16 points apiece for the Nuggets, who have won all three meetings this season against Dallas. Hickson scored 12 of his points in the fourth quarter to help hold off the Mavericks, who play the Nuggets a final time this season in two weeks in Dallas.

Dirk Nowitzki had 27 points to lead the Mavericks, who lost their third in a row. It’s their first three-game losing streak of the season.

Brandan Wright added 18 points and Vince Carter 17 for Dallas.

Nuggets Fortify Defense in Effort to End Skid

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Brian Shaw found himself in a downright defensive mood at practice.

So for nearly two hours Tuesday, the first-year Denver Nuggets coach had his team work on nothing but defense and defense and more defense.

A training camp style of practice as Shaw described it. Anything to get the Nuggets going again.

Because these days, very little seems to be working. Even the return of point guard Ty Lawson on Monday against Minnesota couldn’t snap the Nuggets out of their funk. They’ve now dropped six in a row and 11 of their last 12.

Timberwolves Outlast Nuggets for 132-128 Win

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Kevin Love scored 33 points and tied a season high with 19 rebounds for his NBA-best 50th double-double this season, and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the skidding Denver Nuggets 132-128 on Monday night for their third win in a row.

Love topped 30 points for the 11th time in his last 14 starts, helping Minnesota wrap up a 4-1 trip out west.

The Nuggets got a boost from the return of Ty Lawson, who scored a season-high 31 points with 11 assists in his first game since breaking his left rib Feb. 8 at Detroit. But it wasn’t enough to reverse their sagging fortunes. Denver lost its sixth straight and has dropped 11 of 12 overall.

Lawson Set to Return from Rib Injury for Nuggets

Ty-Lawson-Nuggets-DenverDENVER (AP) — Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson was set to return for Monday night’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves after missing nearly a month because of a left rib fracture.

Nuggets coach Brian Shaw said before tipoff that Lawson, injured in a collision on Feb. 8 at Detroit, had been cleared to play.

“I expect him to be a little rusty,” Shaw said. “He hasn’t really done anything involving contact with the team but we are excited to have him back and ready to play. We are looking forward to having him on the court.

The Nuggets have missed Lawson, their primary offensive catalyst. Denver has gone 1-8 without Lawson, losing the last five in a row.

Blazers Beat Nuggets 102-96, Sweep Season Series

Denver_NuggetsPORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Robin Lopez scored 18 points, LaMarcus Aldridge returned from an injury to add 16, and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Denver Nuggets 102-96 on Saturday night to sweep the series for the first time in 15 years.

Nicolas Batum had a career-high 16 rebounds for Portland, which has won its last five games.

Kenneth Faried, Randy Foye and Evan Fournier scored 16 points apiece, but Denver lost its fifth straight. Faried took a hard fall with less than two minutes left and appeared to injure his right knee, but finished out the game.

Portland won all four meetings, its first sweep of the series since the 1999 season, when the Blazers won all three games against the Nuggets.

Pierce Scores 18, Nets Rebound in Rout of Nuggets

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Paul Pierce scored 18 points and the Brooklyn Nets rebounded from their worst loss in 11 years by routing the slumping Denver Nuggets 112-89 on Thursday night.

Joe Johnson, Marcus Thornton, and Mason Plumlee each added 10 points for the Nets, who snapped a six-game losing streak in Denver. The Nets hadn’t won in the Mile High City since a 112-102 victory on Jan. 27, 2007.

Randy Foye had 15 points to lead Denver, which has lost four in a row and nine of 10.

Brooklyn’s 7-foot center Jason Collins, the NBA’s first openly gay player appearing in his third game since being signed to a 10-day contract, was given a round of applause from the crowd when he entered the game for the first time with 8:02 left. Collins finished with three points.

Lillard Leads Portland Past Denver 100-95

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Damian Lillard made up for the absence of fellow All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge by scoring 31 points in the Portland Trail Blazers’ 100-95 win over the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night.

Lillard scored 12 in the third quarter when it looked as if the Blazers were headed for a blowout win, but he saved his biggest shots for late in the fourth after the Nuggets had trimmed an 18-point deficit to two.

The Blazers again went with a smaller lineup with Aldridge missing his fourth straight game with a strained left groin, and Dorell Wright helped make up for Aldridge’s team-high 23.9 points and 11.4 rebounds by giving Denver another long-range shooter to defend.

Randy Foye led Denver with 17 points.

Thomas, Gay Push Kings Past Nuggets 109-95

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Isaiah Thomas scored 33 points, Rudy Gay had 32 and the Sacramento Kings routed the Nuggets 109-95 on Sunday night for their first win in Denver in six years.

DeMarcus Cousins added 27 points for the Kings, who snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Nuggets at the Pepsi Center. It was Sacramento’s first win in the Mile High City since a 118-115 victory on April 5, 2008. The Kings have won three of their last four games overall.

Randy Foye and Evan Fournier each scored 27 points for the slumping Nuggets, who lost for the seventh time in the last eight games. The Nuggets fell to 1-5 without leading scorer Ty Lawson, who missed a sixth game because of a fractured left rib.

Bulls Ride Fast Start to 117-89 Win Over Nuggets

Denver_NuggetsCHICAGO (AP) — D.J. Augustin had 22 points and eight assists, and the Chicago Bulls routed the Denver Nuggets 117-89 Friday night for their fifth consecutive victory.

Rookie Tony Snell added a career-high 20 points as the Bulls put seven players in double figures. Taj Gibson had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Joakim Noah finished with 14 points, 11 boards and five assists.

Randy Foye scored 23 points for Denver, which has lost six of seven. Aaron Brooks had 17 on 7-for-11 shooting in 28 minutes in his Nuggets debut, which also included a technical foul when he was involved in a tussle with Noah in the third.

Denver acquired Brooks and forward Jan Vesely in a pair of trades on Thursday. The 7-foot Vesely had five points and five rebounds in 16 minutes.
