New Wizards G Miller Talks About Spat with Nuggets

Andre MillerWASHINGTON (AP) — Andre Miller says he lost his cool when he and Denver Nuggets coach Brian Shaw got into a shouting match.

Miller spoke Friday after his first practice with the Washington Wizards.

Miller was traded on Thursday from Denver to Washington. He hasn’t played since his confrontation with Shaw late during a game on New Year’s Day.

Says Miller: “It was just an instance where I kind of lost my cool and was a little bit unprofessional and stepped out of character. And I apologized to my teammates for what happened. That’s not me. That’s not what I’m about.”

Miller said he was tired after his first practice, but hopes to play when the Wizards host the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday.

Faried Stays Hot, Nuggets Beat Bucks 101-90

Denver_NuggetsMILWAUKEE (AP) — Kenneth Faried continued his recent hot streak, scoring 26 points to carry the Denver Nuggets past the Milwaukee Bucks 101-90 Thursday night.

Wilson Chandler scored 15 while J.J. Hickson added 14 points and 10 rebounds in a matchup of two teams left short-handed by deals they made before Thursday afternoon’s trade deadline.

Faried, the No. 22 overall pick in the 2011 draft, has been impressive this February. Coming off a 21-point, 10-rebound performance against Phoenix, the forward also scored a career-high 28 against the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this month.

Caron Butler scored 17 for the Bucks, who have not won two straight games all season. Ersan Ilyasova had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

AP Source: Nuggets Trade Miller, Hamilton

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — A person with knowledge of the details says the Denver Nuggets have traded Andre Miller and Jordan Hamilton in separate deals.

The person, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the moves had not been announced, said Miller was traded to Washington on Thursday in a three-team deal. Denver gets forward Jan Vesely and Philadelphia acquired Eric Maynor and draft picks.

Also, the Nuggets traded Hamilton to Houston for Aaron Brooks, filling Denver’s dire need for a point guard.

Ty Lawson (ribs) has been out and Miller had not played for Denver since yelling at coach Brian Shaw during a Jan. 1 game.

The Nuggets got future flexibility in the deals, first reported by the Denver Post, because Vesely and Brooks have expiring contracts.

Green’s 36 Points Lead Suns Past Nuggets in OT

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Gerald Green scored a career-high 36 points, including eight in overtime, and the Phoenix Suns beat Denver 112-107 on Tuesday night to hand the Nuggets their fifth consecutive loss.

Goran Dragic added 21 points and 14 assists for the Suns, who completed a four-game season sweep of the Nuggets, their first in nine years.

Evan Fournier scored 25 to lead the Nuggets, who lost a tough, close game after being blown out in their previous four defeats.

Kenneth Faried added 21 points and 10 rebounds for Denver, which was without leading scorer Ty Lawson (broken left rib) for a third consecutive game.

Love Leads Wolves Past Depleted Nuggets 117-90

Denver_NuggetsMINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kevin Love started practicing early for All-Star weekend, making six of 11 shots from 3-point range and totaling 32 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 117-90 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night.

Love, chosen as a first-time starter for the Western Conference team, will also take part in the 3-point shooting contest this weekend in New Orleans.

In five February games, Love has averaged 32.6 points. He sat out twice last week, once because of a stiff neck and again with a bruised left quadriceps, but his banged-up body hasn’t hindered his production when he is on the court.

Injuries have affected the Nuggets all season. Ty Lawson, Nate Robinson, Danilo Gallinari and JaVale McGee are hurt, and Andre Miller is on leave from the team because of a strained relationship.

Pacers Roll Past Short-Handed Nuggets 119-80

Denver_NuggetsINDIANAPOLIS (AP) — David West scored 25 points and Roy Hibbert added 14 as the Indiana Pacers routed the short-handed Denver Nuggets 119-80 on Monday night.

Indiana snapped a five-game skid in the series, beating the Nuggets for the first time since a 31-point blowout in November 2010. The Pacers (40-11) still have the NBA’s best record, the league’s best home record (25-2) and now lead two-time defending champion Miami by four games in the Eastern Conference.

Wilson Chandler scored 17 points to lead the Nuggets (24-26), who have lost three straight. They played without several injured players, including Andre Miller, Danilo Gallinari, JaVale McGee, Nate Robinson and Ty Lawson.

The Pacers took control with a 21-5 run that made it 37-20 early in the second quarter. Then they closed the half on a 14-4 spurt to make it 61-40, and the Nuggets couldn’t get closer than 19 in the second half.

Jennings Has 35 and Pistons Top Nuggets 126-109

Denver_NuggetsAUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Brandon Jennings had a season-high 35 points to go with 12 assists, Josh Smith had 30 points and the Detroit Pistons rolled to a 126-109 win over the Denver Nuggets Saturday night.

The game didn’t quite match Detroit’s 186-184 triple-overtime win over Denver 30 years ago, but still saw 11 players score in double figures and the Pistons put up a season high in points.

Rodney Stuckey added 19 points for Detroit, while Andre Drummond had 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Randy Foye led the Nuggets with 25 points, while Wilson Chandler scored 20 and J.J. Hickson added 15 points and 16 rebounds. Denver lost point guard Ty Lawson to a back strain late in the first half. Evan Fournier replaced him at the start of the second half, with Foye moving from shooting guard to the point.

Chandler Leads Nuggets Past Bucks, 110-100

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Wilson Chandler scored seven of his 24 points in the final 1:52 and the Denver Nuggets held on to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 110-100 on Wednesday night.

Ty Lawson had 18 points and 13 assists and Randy Foye scored 20 points for the Nuggets, who avoided another embarrassing home loss to a sub-.500 team.

Denver has played well against good teams and struggled against losing clubs this year, especially at home. The Nuggets, who were 38-3 at Pepsi Center last season, watched Utah, Philadelphia, Cleveland and Charlotte leave Denver with unlikely victories.

Larry Sanders had 25 points and 15 rebounds for short-handed Milwaukee, and Khris Middleton also scored 25.

Foye’s 3 at Buzzer Lifts Nuggets Past Clippers

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Randy Foye hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key at the buzzer, and the Denver Nuggets overcame a 36-point performance by Blake Griffin to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 116-115 on Monday night.

Kenneth Faried had a career-high 28 points and 11 rebounds for the Nuggets, who denied the Clippers their sixth win in seven games.

Ty Lawson, who missed the last four games with a shoulder injury, added 27 points and J.J. Hickson had 17 points and 12 rebounds.

DeAndre Jordan had 19 points and 12 rebounds. It was his team record 28th consecutive game with at least 10 rebounds. Jamal Crawford added 19 points for the Clippers, who fell to 0-11 on the road when trailing after the third quarter.

Raptors End Drought in Denver, Beat Nuggets 100-90

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — DeMar DeRozan scored 19 points, Terrence Ross had 18 and the Toronto Raptors ended a decade-long drought in Denver by beating the short-handed Nuggets 100-90 Friday night.

Jonas Valanciunas and Kyle Lowry added 13 points apiece for the Raptors, who snapped a nine-game losing streak in the Mile High City dating to 2003.

The Nuggets announced during the game that guard Nate Robinson had season-ending surgery earlier Friday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The Nuggets also were without leading scorer Ty Lawson, who missed his second consecutive game Friday with a left rotator cuff strain.

J.J. Hickson and Evan Fournier led the Nuggets with 18 points apiece. Hickson also had 13 rebounds. Randy Foye, playing point guard in the absence of Lawson and Robinson, had 10 points and 16 assists.
