Bradley’s Go-Ahead 3 helps Celtics beat Nuggets 100-99

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Avery Bradley scored 18 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:24 left, and the Boston Celtics hung on to beat Denver 100-99 on Friday night, sending the Nuggets to their fifth loss in a row.

The Nuggets played without star guard Ty Lawson, who was away from the team for what the club said were personal reasons following his arrest earlier Friday for allegedly driving under the influence.

Jameer Nelson, acquired from Boston in exchange for Nate Robinson in a trade Jan. 13, had 23 points in his first start for the Nuggets in place of Lawson. But he missed a mid-range jumper at the buzzer that would have beaten his former team.

The Celtics won consecutive games for the first time since winning three straight in mid-December. They beat Portland on the front end of their back-to-back set on Thursday.

Arron Afflalo added 20 points for Denver.

In a statement, the police said Lawson was stopped after an officer saw a car being driven fast and carelessly early Friday.

The Denver Nuggets said the team was aware of the arrest and would have no further comment.

Leonard has Double-Double as Spurs beat Nuggets 109-99

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Kawhi Leonard had 17 points and 15 rebounds in another strong outing since returning from a hand injury, and the San Antonio Spurs won their fourth in a row by beating the Denver Nuggets 109-99 on Tuesday night.

Tony Parker scored 18 points and Tim Duncan added 16, all in the second half, to help the Spurs beat the Nuggets for the fifth straight time.

Leonard has been a big part of San Antonio’s recent surge, playing for the third time since returning from a bruised hand that had sidelined him for the previous 15 games.

Kenneth Faried had 26 points and 14 rebounds for the Nuggets, who lost their fourth straight. Arron Afflalo added 21 points.

Denver_NuggetsOAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Klay Thompson scored 22 points, Stephen Curry had 20 points and eight assists, and the Golden State Warriors matched a franchise record with their 16th consecutive home win in impressive fashion, whipping the Denver Nuggets 122-79 on Monday.

The NBA-leading Warriors (33-6) out did Denver (18-23) in nearly every major category, including shooting percentage (54.3 percent to 34.5 percent), rebounds (53 to 39), assists (30 to 17), blocks (six to three) and steals (10 to nine).

Ty Lawson had 19 points and six assists, and Jameer Nelson had 14 points and five assists for the Nuggets, who have lost three in a row.

Wiggins Scores 31 as Timberwolves beat Nuggets 113-105

Denver_NuggetsDENVER (AP) — Andrew Wiggins scored a career-high 31 points and Robbie Hummel had two big tip-in baskets in the fourth quarter, helping the Minnesota Timberwolves hold off the Denver Nuggets 113-105 on Saturday night.

The rookie out of Kansas was 11 of 17 from the floor, including four 3-pointers, as Minnesota improved to 4-16 on the road this season.

Hummel finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Thaddeus Young added 22 points.

The Timberwolves hardly looked weary down the stretch in the thin air of the Mile High City despite losing the night before in Phoenix. They’re now 2-7 on the second night of a back-to-back.

Ty Lawson led Denver with 22 points. The Nuggets lost the night before in Dallas to snap a five-game win streak.

Nowitzki, Mavs Split Home-and-Home with Nuggets, 97-89

Denver_NuggetsDALLAS (AP) — Dirk Nowitzki scored 25 points after missing a game in Denver to rest, and the Dallas Mavericks split a home-and-home set against the Nuggets with a 97-89 victory Friday night.

Tyson Chandler and Rajon Rondo were the other two Dallas starters who sat out the second night of a back-to-back on Wednesday, and their return helped as well.

Chandler had his 17th double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds, while Rondo scored just two points but had eight assists and nine rebounds while helping slow Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson early.

Arron Afflalo scored 16 to lead the Nuggets, who had to withstand a rally to beat the travel-weary and short-handed Mavericks at home after four nights off. Denver’s five-game winning streak, tied for a season high, ended in the first of four games in five nights.

DENVER (AP) — The Denver Nuggets traded backup point guard Nate Robinson to the Boston Celtics on Tuesday for guard Jameer Nelson.

Robinson was a member of the Celtics for parts of 2009-10 and ’10-11. He averaged 5.8 points for Denver this season a year after tearing his ACL.

It will be Nelson’s third team this season. He signed with Dallas before the season and then wound up in Boston as part of the trade that sent Rajon Rondo to the Mavericks.

Nelson was the 20th overall pick by Denver in 2004, only to have his rights traded to the Orlando Magic in a draft-night deal. He’s averaged 12.3 points and 5.3 assists with Orlando, Dallas and Boston.

Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly said Nelson’s “veteran leadership will be of value to our team.”

DENVER (AP) — Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari says he’s “a little ahead of schedule” after undergoing surgery to fix a torn meniscus in his right knee last month.

When he will return to the court, though, still remains unknown. He may be a few more weeks away from suiting up, but said after the team’s practice Monday he hopes it’s not that long.

Gallinari hasn’t played since scoring 19 points in a win over Indiana on Dec. 20. He’s averaging 7.8 points this season as he returns to the Nuggets after missing nearly 18 months with a torn ACL in his left knee that required three surgeries.

Although the latest knee injury is “tough,” Gallinari said he’s fortunate that it’s “not a major surgery” and “not a major problem. So, it’s easier.”
