Cody Latimer Didn’t Have to Shop for New Clothes

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Cody Latimer is already a good fit in Denver and he has yet to suit up in orange and blue. Well, blue at least.

The Indiana wide receiver arrived at team headquarters Saturday sporting a crisp orange dress shirt, white pants and orange leather dress shoes.

No surprise there — except that he didn’t race out on a midnight shopping run in Manhattan after the Broncos selected him in the second round of the NFL draft Friday night.

Latimer says the outfit was the same one he wore to his senior prom at Jefferson Township High School in Dayton, Ohio, in 2011.

Broncos Draft OLB Corey Nelson in 7th Round

DenverBroncosENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos have wrapped up their draft with the selection of Oklahoma outside linebacker Corey Nelson in the seventh round.

Nelson missed the last half of his senior season with a torn chest muscle.

The Broncos also picked up LSU inside linebacker Lamin Barrow in the fifth round and Boise State center Matt Paradis in the sixth round Saturday.

They traded out of the fourth round in a deal with Chicago.

Overall, the Broncos made six selections in the three-day NFL draft. Their top three picks were all Big Ten players: Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby, Indiana wide receiver Cody Latimer and Michigan right tackle Michael Schofield.

Chiefs Turn to Offense on Final Day of NFL Draft

Kansas City Chiefs HelmetKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs turned their attention to offense on the final day of the draft, choosing running back De’Anthony Thomas in the fourth round and quarterback Aaron Murray in the fifth round Saturday.

With two picks in the sixth round, the Chiefs added a pair of offensive linemen in Zach Fulton out of Tennessee and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif out of McGill, a school in Canada. Both of them will be able to provide depth for a unit depleted by free agency.

The Chiefs bolstered their defense the first two days of the draft, grabbing defensive end Dee Ford in Thursday night’s first round and defensive back Phillip Gaines in the third round Friday.

Kansas City did not have a seventh-round selection.

Broncos Select Indiana WR Latimer in 2nd Round

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos gave Peyton Manning another offensive target, selecting Indiana wide receiver Cody Latimer in the second round of the NFL draft.

Denver drafted Latimer 56th overall, moving up six spots in a trade on Friday night with the San Francisco 49ers.

Latimer had 72 catches for 1,096 yards and nine TDs for the Hoosiers last season.

The Broncos took Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby with the No. 31 pick in the first round on Thursday.

Broncos Have 4 Picks Remaining in draft

DenverBroncosENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos have four picks remaining in the draft and may be in the market for a linebacker, kick returner or possibly even another target for Peyton Manning.

Denver enters the final day of the draft Saturday with a fourth-round pick, along with a sixth-rounder and two seventh-round selections.

So far, the team has relied heavily on players from the Big Ten Conference. Broncos boss John Elway even joked that “by the time we get through tomorrow, they’re going to call us the Big Ten Broncos.”

Denver selected Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby in the first round on Thursday.

The team moved up in the second round to pick Indiana wide receiver Cody Latimer on Friday, and then took Michigan offensive lineman Michael Schofield in the third round.

Roby Glad to Join Super Bowl Contender in Denver

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Bradley Roby’s slip down the draft board surely will cost him a few million dollars. He swears he doesn’t care.

The star cornerback from Ohio State said he’s glad he’s going to play for the AFC champion Denver Broncos and not a rebuilder anyway.

After all, he changed his mind about going to Vanderbilt in 2010 in large part because the Commodores “didn’t win enough.”

Another thing that lured him to Columbus was his switch from wide receiver to defensive back, and Ohio State has a rich tradition of sending elite cornerbacks to the NFL.

Broncos Select Cornerback Bradley Roby

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos have selected All-Big Ten cornerback Bradley Roby with the 31st pick in the NFL draft.

The fourth-year junior joins an already solid group of cornerbacks that includes free agent acquisition Aqib Talib and Chris Harris Jr., who is recovering from a partially torn ACL that required surgery and kept him out of the Super Bowl.

The Broncos jettisoned star cornerback Champ Bailey this offseason.

Roby is the 500th player selected by the Broncos since the inception of the common draft in 1967.

The last player chosen 31st overall by Denver was linebacker Al Wilson, who went on to start 119 games during an eight-year career that included five Pro Bowls.

No Surprises: Clowney Taken 1st by Texans

Jadeveon Clowney NFL Draft Houston TexansNEW YORK (AP) — The Houston Texans have made South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon (jah-DAY’-vee-ahn) Clowney the first pick in the NFL draft.

Considered a budding NFL star even when he was a freshman, Clowney brings size, speed and power to a Texans lineup that already has 2012 NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt.

But his work ethic has been questioned after he slipped from 13 sacks to just three in 2013. Critics said he was protecting himself from injury before declaring early for the draft.

Houston previously made the top pick in two drafts, taking quarterback David Carr in 2002. He never lived up to that billing. They took DE Mario Williams in 2006, but he left for Buffalo in 2012.

Elway Finds Himself in Enviable Position Again

John-Elway-Denver-BroncosENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — John Elway has turned the Denver Broncos from riff-raff to royalty in three years.

He had the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft and chose Von Miller. He has the second-to-last selection this time around, and that could prove an enviable position, too.

Four quarterbacks are expected to hear their names called in the first round Thursday night. If Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Derek Carr all go before the Broncos make their pick, prime players at other positions will be pushed down the board, giving Denver added value at No. 31.

If even one of those four QBs, or maybe even a guy like Jimmy Garoppolo, is still available, Elway can expect some phone calls.
