Updated SPVA Brackets

BasketballThe finals of the SPVA Tournament are upon us at North Platte Community College’s McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.

The teams expected to be competing for the crown are and St. Patrick’s has a chance to win the tournament for both the boys and girls.

The No. 1 seeded St. Patrick’s boys basketball team is ranked sixth in Class D1 and will face second-seeded Chase County. The two teams had different routes to the championship game. The Irish ran through Sutherland with a 22-point 55-33 win while the Longhorns had to battle a strong Kimball team en route to a 59-53 win. The boys championship game is scheduled for 7:30 at NPCC. The 3rd and 4th place game between Sutherland and Chase County will be played at 4:30. The 5th and 6th place game is at 1:30 between Perkins County and Maxwell.

The No. 1 seeded St. Patrick’s girls team has an even tougher task if they want to take home the championship. The Lady Irish play second-seeded Hershey, which has already beaten St. Pat’s this season. The Lady Irish are ranked second in Class D1 while the Lady Panthers are ranked third in Class C1. When the two teams met earlier this year it was a low-scoring affair with Hershey winning 37-33. The girls championship game will be played at 6:00 at North Platte Community College and the 3rd and 4th place game between will be played at 3:00 between Kimball and Sutherland. The girls 5th and 6th place game is the first game of the day tipping off at 12 noon between Maxwell and Perkins County.
