Shepard Powers Huskers Past Illini

Lincoln – Jessica Shepard scored 29 points and pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds to power Nebraska to a 73-57 win over Illinois on Sunday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Nebraska also got a strong offensive effort from senior point guard Rachel Theriot, who scored 17 points and dished out seven assists, while adding four rebounds and three steals. Natalie Romeo gave the Huskers three players in double figures with 10 points and three assists, while playing outstanding defense throughout the game. Huskers Break Through with 90-56 Win over Rutgers

Piscataway, N.J. – Behind 28 points and nine rebounds from Andrew White III, Nebraska broke into the win column for the first time in Big Ten play with a 90-56 win Saturday afternoon.

White was efficient, hitting 11-of-14 shots from the field, including 5-of-7 from the 3-point line, as Nebraska never trailed in posting its largest road win margin since a 50-13 win at Morningside College in 1920. White’s 28-point effort tied his second-highest performance of the year while his five 3-pointers matched a career high in only 24 minutes of work. Huskers Fall at No. 8 Maryland

College Park, Md. – Jasmine Cincore scored a career-high nine points and Maddie Simon added nine of her own in her return from injury, but the Nebraska women’s basketball team suffered an 89-50 loss to No. 8 Maryland at the Xfinity Center on Thursday night.

Huskers Fall at No. 14 Northwestern

Evanston, Ill. – The Nebraska women’s basketball team could not overcome a poor first-half shooting performance, suffering an 85-62 loss at No. 14 Northwestern on Sunday afternoon.

Huskers Come Up Short Against Hoosiers

Lincoln – Despite a team-high 16 points from both Jack McVeigh and Andrew White III, Nebraska fell to Indiana, 79-69, at Pinnacle Bank Arena Saturday afternoon.

Huskers Fall to Hawkeyes

Lincoln – The Nebraska women’s basketball team fell behind visiting Iowa by 16 points early in the second half before rallying to trim the lead to three points with six minutes left, but the Huskers were unable to complete the comeback in a 74-68 loss to the Hawkeyes in the Big Ten opener for both teams at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday afternoon. Huskers Fall to Wildcats in Big Ten Opener

Lincoln – Despite a career performance from senior Benny Parker, the Nebraska men’s basketball team fell to Northwestern, 81-72, Wednesday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Evanston, Ill. – Six Husker wrestlers punched tickets to the semifinals after the first day of action in the 53rd Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Tuesday.

Shepard Claims Fifth Big Ten Freshman Honor

Lincoln – Jessica Shepard captured her fifth Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week award in the first seven weeks of the 2015-16 season, when the conference office announced its weekly honors on Monday afternoon.

Shepard, a 6-4 forward from Fremont, Neb., notched her fourth double-double with 19 points and a career-high-matching 13 rebounds in Nebraska’s win over Arkansas State to close non-conference play on Monday, Dec. 21. It was her 10th double-figure scoring effort of the season, as she reached 200 points faster than any other freshman in school history (11 games). Huskers Ground UCLA, 37-29

Santa Clara, Calif. – Nebraska rolled for a season-high 326 rushing yards and 500 yards of total offense to ground UCLA’s high-powered passing attack and claim a 37-29 win over the Bruins in the Foster Farms Bowl on Saturday night.

Nebraska stuck with a smash-mouth game plan all night, scoring 30 unanswered points after falling behind 21-7 in the second quarter at Levi’s Stadium. Quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. accounted for 250 yards of total offense, including 76 rushing yards on 10 carries with one touchdown.
