Lincoln – Tai Webster scored six of his 10 points in an 18-2 second-half run, as Nebraska built a big early lead and lost it briefly before pulling away from Prairie View A&M, 81-50, Tuesday evening at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Shepard Claims National Honors

Lincoln – Nebraska’s Jessica Shepard earned National Freshman of the Week honors from the United States Basketball Writer’s Association (USBWA) for the week ending Dec. 20. The award was announced on Tuesday, Dec. 22.

The award continues an early season hardware haul for the 6-4 forward from Fremont, Neb. On Monday, Shepard was named the Big Ten Player of the Week for the first time, while adding her fourth Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week award. Continue reading “Shepard Claims National Honors”

Nebraska Wins Fourth National Title

Omaha, Neb. – The Nebraska volleyball team won its fourth national title Saturday night, sweeping the Texas Longhorns at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha. Kelsey Fien’s 22nd swing of the night tooled the Texas block and set off a raucous celebration in front of an NCAA-record crowd of 17,561 inside the CenturyLink Center, most of whom were wearing red.

The Huskers won their first national title since taking the crown in 2006, when Omaha hosted the NCAA Championships for the first time. Huskers Hand Out Team Honors

The Nebraska football team recognized its 2015 team award winners on Sunday as part of its season banquet in Lincoln.

Head Coach Mike Riley thanked the players, coaches and staff for their efforts during the season and staff members handed out awards to a number of Huskers.

Senior fullback Andy Janovich earned three awards. A Gretna native, Janovich was a key part of the Nebraska offense and also the Huskers’ top special teams tackler. Janovich was presented the Tom Novak Trophy, one of the oldest Nebraska senior awards, dating back to 1950. The award is selected by a vote of media that cover Nebraska on a daily basis. Shepard Sets Record in Husker Win

Lincoln – Jessica Shepard set a Nebraska freshman record with 35 points while adding eight rebounds and a career-high four steals to power the Huskers to a 90-67 women’s basketball win Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Shepard’s 35 points came on 12-of-16 shooting from the floor and included 11 free throws. Her performance surpassed Nebraska’s previous freshman mark of 34 points by Debra Powell on Feb. 25, 1982 against Notre Dame. Continue reading “Shepard Sets Record in Husker Win”

Omaha, Neb. – The fourth-seeded Nebraska volleyball team used a strong finish to push their way past No. 9 Kansas on Thursday, punching their ticket to Saturday’s NCAA Championship match. Nebraska won the final seven rallies of the match to defeat the Jayhawks in front of 17,551 fans at the CenturyLink Center, the largest volleyball crowd in NCAA history. Huskers Arrive in Omaha for NCAA Semifinals

OMAHA, Neb. – The Nebraska volleyball team officially made the journey to Omaha on Wednesday to prepare for its NCAA Semifinal match on Thursday.

Three Huskers Earn AVCA All-America Selections

LINCOLN, Neb. – Three members of the Nebraska volleyball team earned AVCA All-America team honors on Wednesday, while two received honorable mention.

Junior outside hitter Kadie Rolfzen earned first-team All-America honors for the first time in her career after two straight years as a third-team All-American. Her twin sister, junior middle blocker Amber Rolfzen, was a second-team All-American, the first selection of her career. Finals Week Not Holding Huskers Back

Lincoln, Neb. — The Nebraska football team practiced for just over two hours in half pads and helmets Tuesday afternoon in the Hawks Championship Center and Cook Pavilion in preparation for the Foster Farm Bowl Game.

Head Coach Mike Riley, along with offensive and defensive coordinators, spoke to the media following practice.
