Huskers Head to Creighton Wednesday Night

Nebraska makes its only road trip of the month of December on Wednesday, making the 58.5 mile trek from Lincoln to take on the Creighton Bluejays.

Tipoff from CenturyLink Center in Omaha is slated for 7:05 p.m., and the annual matchup between the Huskers and Bluejays will be televised on the CBS Sports Network (Ch. 221-DirecTV; Ch. 158-DISH; Ch. 315 & 1322-TWC Nebraska; Ch. 234 & 1234-Cox Cable). Huskers Shoot for Lucky Seven Against Aces

The Nebraska women’s basketball team wraps up its three-game home stand by taking on Evansville on Tuesday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tip-off between the Big Red and the Purple Aces is set for 7 p.m., and tickets are available at Huskers.com or by calling 800-8-BIG-RED. Shepard Earns Third Freshman Honor

Lincoln – Nebraska’s Jessica Shepard captured her third Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week award of the season on Monday, sharing the honor with Cierra Rice from Illinois for the second time.

Shepard, a 6-4 forward from Fremont, Neb., averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in helping the Huskers to wins over NC State and Creighton last week. In Sunday’s 65-63 win over Creighton, Shepard led the Big Red with 19 points, while adding seven rebounds and three assists to help Nebraska overcome a 21-point deficit. Jensen Leads Three Husker Placers in Bob Smith Open

Hays, Kan. – Junior Collin Jensen captured the heavyweight title and two additional Huskers earned podium spots in the Bob Smith Open at Gross Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, Dec. 6.

No. 18 Anthony Abidin collected a third-place finish at 141 pounds, while Patrick Grayson, wrestling unattached, took third at heavyweight. Huskers Head to Foster Farms Bowl

foster farms bowlThe University of Nebraska has been selected to participate in the 14th Foster Farms Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The Huskers will take on the UCLA Bruins of the Pac-12 Conference on Saturday, Dec. 26 with kickoff at 6:15 p.m. PT.

The Foster Farms Bowl will be televised by ESPN and is played at the home of the San Francisco 49ers. In its second season of operation, Levi’s Stadium is regarded as one of the world’s finest athletic venues and will play host to Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7, 2016. Huskers Sweep Shockers, Advance to Sweet 16

Lincoln – Strong serving and an outstanding night from Mikaela Foecke powered the fourth-seeded Nebraska volleyball team into the Sweet 16, as the Huskers swept the Wichita State Shockers in a second-round NCAA Tournament match Saturday night in a front of sellout crowd of 8,132 at the Devaney Center.

The Huskers trailed for a total of only five rallies in the match, cruising to a 25-19, 25-19, 25-14 win for their 12th consecutive victory. With the win, Nebraska advanced to an NCAA Regional for the 21st time in the past 22 seasons. Continue reading “Huskers Sweep Shockers, Advance to Sweet 16”

Strong Second Half Leads Huskers Past Wildcats

Lincoln – Andrew White III scored a season-high 30 points and Shavon Shields had his third 20-point game of the season as Nebraska defeated Abilene Christian 73-63 Saturday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Cornhuskers, who outscored the Wildcats by 12 in the second half, were paced by White, whose scoring output was the highest by a Husker since Terran Petteway scored 32 against Michigan State last season. Huskers Hold Off Harvard in NCAA Opener

Lincoln – The fourth-seeded Nebraska volleyball team had to post a rare come-from-behind victory in a first-round NCAA Tournament match on Friday, rallying for a 3-1 victory over Harvard in the Crimson’s postseason debut in front of 8,098 fans at the Devaney Center.

The Huskers never led as Harvard burst onto the postseason scene with a 25-22 win in the opening set. Trailing a first-round NCAA Tournament opponent for only the third time in school history – and for the first time since 1986 – Nebraska trailed for a total of only three rallies over the final three sets. Lincoln – All-American Rachel Theriot produced her sixth career double-double with 20 points and 11 assists to lead five Huskers in double figures, as the Nebraska women’s basketball team rolled to an 88-67 win over NC State at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday night.

The Big Red improved to 5-1 overall with their only loss coming at No. 1 UConn, while notching their second straight win in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
