Huskers Fall to Hurricanes in Overtime

Lincoln – Shavon Shields scored a season-high 28 points to lead three Huskers in double figures, as Nebraska pushed No. 21 Miami to overtime before falling 77-72 in front of a sellout crowd of 15,646 Tuesday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Shields recorded his second 20-point game of the year and 16 second-half points, but Nebraska was unable to get the key basket in the extra session to take down the Hurricanes

Trailing 70-68 after a pair of Andrew White III free throws with 3:39 left in overtime, Davon Reed gave Miami the lead with a 3-pointer with 2:41 left to put the visitors on top, 71-70. Continue reading “Huskers Fall to Hurricanes in Overtime”

Westerkamp Lead NU All-Big Ten Offense Picks

The Nebraska offense was represented by four players on the All-Big Ten Conference teams announced on Tuesday. The league office previously announced defensive and special teams winners on Monday.

Leading the way among NU’s offensive honorees is junior wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp. The Chicago native was a second-team All-Big Ten choice by both the conference coaches and the media who covers the league. Westerkamp leads Nebraska with 63 receptions for 874 yards and seven touchdowns. Former Husker, Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost is new UCF coach

ucfCentral Florida has hired Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost as its new coach to take over a program that just finished a winless season.

New UCF athletic director Danny White called Frost a winner and an innovator in announcing his hiring in a statement Tuesday.

No bowl bonus for Nebraska coaches if picked with 5-7 record

huskers logoLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska will play in a bowl with a 5-7 record if invited to one, but coach Mike Riley and his assistants won’t receive bowl bonuses.

Senior associate athletic director David Witty confirmed Monday night that athletic director Shawn Eichorst met with Riley and decided not to pay bowl bonuses outlined in the coaches’ contracts. LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska volleyball junior libero Justine Wong-Orantes was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, and juniors Amber Rolfzen and Kadie Rolfzen were named to the All-Big Ten Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Huskers Host No. 21 Miami on Tuesday

After playing seven games in a 15-day span, the Nebraska basketball team is back at Pinnacle Bank Arena Tuesday evening, as the Huskers return home to face the No. 21/21 Miami Hurricanes (AP/Coaches) in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

Tipoff is set for 8:05 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU and carried across Nebraska on the Husker Sports Network, including KLIN 1400 AM in Lincoln and KSXP 590 AM in Omaha. It is also available on the WatchESPN app. Continue reading “Huskers Host No. 21 Miami on Tuesday”

Foltz Named Big Ten Punter of the Year

Nebraska junior punter Sam Foltz was named the Eddleman-Fields Big Ten Punter of the Year on Monday evening. Foltz was one of five Huskers to receive All-Big Ten recognition on Monday, as the league announced recipients on special teams and defense.

Foltz led the Big Ten Conference in punting average at 44.4 yards per punt. In conference games only, Foltz averaged 45.0 yards per punt, bettering all other Big Ten punters by more than two yards per attempt. Amber Rolfzen Wins Third B1G Defensive Award

Nebraska junior middle blocker Amber Rolfzen earned her third Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week Award this season on Monday, the conference office announced.

Rolfzen helped the Huskers to sweeps of No. 18 Illinois and No. 7 Penn State last week with 15 total blocks (2.50 per set), including eight against Penn State. Huskers’ NCAA Journey Begins in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. – For the 12th straight year, the Nebraska volleyball team will open the NCAA Tournament at home, as the Bob Devaney Sports Center was chosen as one of the 16 host sites for the NCAA first and second rounds next weekend.

The Huskers, making their 34th straight NCAA Tournament appearance, were selected as the No. 4 overall seed in the 64-team field. New York City – Tai Webster’s 18 point led five Huskers in double figures, as Nebraska shot 60 percent in the second half to post an 82-71 win over Tennessee in the third-place game of the Barclays Center Classic.

Webster, who earned all-tournament honors after averaging 19.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in Brooklyn, led a balanced attack for Nebraska, which improved to 5-2 on the season with the win. Continue reading “Huskers Top Vols, 82-71”
