Huskers Approach South Alabama Match-Up

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska football team practiced for about 90 minutes without pads at the Hawks Championship Center on Thursday in preparation for Saturday’s game against South Alabama.

Head Coach Mike Riley spoke to the media after practice and confirmed that Freedom Akinmoladun will start at defensive end in place of the injured Jack Gangwish.

“Ross Dzuris will play for sure,” Riley said. “And then we’re looking at a couple other options there. We’re getting some guys ready. We probably won’t have quite the rotation we did last week.”

Huskers Add Central Michigan to Future Schedule

The University of Nebraska has added Central Michigan to the 2020 non-conference football schedule.  The Nebraska Athletics Department announced the latest addition to the Huskers’ future non-conference schedule on Wednesday.

The Chippewas will visit Lincoln on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The contest is the second scheduled non-conference game for Nebraska in 2020. The Huskers are scheduled to take on Cincinnati at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 12, 2020. NU Looking to Slim Down RB Rotation

Lincoln, Neb.– The Nebraska football team continued its preparations for South Alabama on Tuesday afternoon, as the Huskers practiced for just under two hours in half pads. The NU offense practiced inside Memorial Stadium while the Blackshirts practiced inside the Hawks Championship Center.

Nebraska Offensive Coordinator Danny Langsdorf spoke with the media following Tuesday’s practice, mentioning that he was generally impressed with the Husker pipeline looking back at last Saturday’s film, but mentioned there is always improvements that can be made. Lincoln – In arguably the most exciting season-opening game in Nebraska football history, BYU quarterback Tanner Mangum’s 42-yard Hail Mary pass to Mitch Mathews on 4th-and-3 as time expired gave the Cougars a 33-28 win over the Huskers on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Playing in front of the NCAA-record 341st consecutive sellout with 89,959 fans at Memorial Stadium, Nebraska built a 28-24 lead heading into the fourth quarter of Mike Riley’s debut as the Big Red’s head coach to end the Huskers’ 29-year season-opening win. 2 starters among 5 Huskers suspended for opener against BYU

huskers logoLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Starting linebacker Michael Rose-Ivey and co-No. 1 cornerback Jonathan Rose are among five Nebraska players suspended for Saturday’s opener against BYU.

Woman sues Oregon State University over 1999 sexual assault

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A woman who says she was raped while attending Oregon State University seeks $7.5 million in a federal lawsuit against the school and its former football coach, Mike Riley.

The woman says the university and Riley failed to address a sexually violent culture among the football team that contributed to her being attacked by a player’s cousin.

Facebook post costs newly hired Neb stadium announcer job

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The public address announcer for football games at Memorial Stadium has lost his job one day after Nebraska announced his hiring.

Former Omaha sportscaster Jon Schuetz said Tuesday that a university official told him he was being let go because of a months-old Facebook post by Schuetz commenting on the firing of football coach Bo Pelini. Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska football team continued its week of preparation on Tuesday afternoon, as the Husker offense practiced inside Memorial Stadium while the defense practiced outside on the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice fields for two hours.

AL Central-leading Royals make deal to get Gomes from Braves

kc-royalsATLANTA (AP) — The AL Central-leading Kansas City Royals have reached a deal to get outfielder Jonny Gomes from the Atlanta Braves.

Terms of the deal weren’t immediately disclosed.
