VIDEO: Huskers are Back in Black

Lincoln — For the Nebraska football defense, Monday’s practice marked an exciting and long-awaited day. Among their red and black practice jerseys, there were speckles of black throughout, as a select few players received Blackshirts today.

Byerson Cockrell, Josh Banderas, Greg McMullen, Kevin Williams, Jack Gangwish, Vincent Valentine, Dedrick Young, Maliek Collins, Joshua Kalu, Daniel Davie and Nate Gerry received the coveted jersey before the start of Monday’s practice. Hunter Named B1G Setter of the Week

Kelly Hunter was named the Big Ten Setter of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced.

The honor is the first career one for Hunter, a sophomore from Papillion, Neb. The Husker captain was named the most valuable player of the Nebraska Invitational on Saturday. Ex-Omaha sportscaster Schuetz new PA man at Memorial Stadium

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Former Omaha sportscaster Jon Schuetz is the new public address announcer for Nebraska football games at Memorial Stadium.

The university athletic department announced Schuetz’s hiring Monday. He replaces Patrick Combs, who had been the announcer since 2002. Nebraska cut ties with Combs this month after he was arrested on suspicion of bilking hundreds of thousands of dollars from two elderly women. Manning on the run in Denver’s 19-12 win over 49ers

DenverBroncosDENVER (AP) — Peyton Manning failed to get the Broncos into the end zone in seven possessions Saturday night, when Denver rode its stifling defense and good ground game to a 19-12 win over the sputtering San Francisco 49ers.

Huskers Top Pitt 3-1, Give Cook 600th Win

Lincoln – The Nebraska volleyball team finished off an unbeaten weekend at the Nebraska Invitational with a 3-1 (25-9, 25-20, 27-29, 25-19) win over Pittsburgh on Saturday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Huskers Enter Game Week

Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska football team was back at it Saturday afternoon as the Huskers practiced inside Memorial Stadium for just under two hours. NU practiced in half pads, or helmets and shoulder pads, using most of Saturday’s practice as a walkthrough for their season opening game against BYU next Saturday.

Efficient Huskers Roll Past Grand Canyon

Lincoln – The fifth-ranked Nebraska volleyball team swept Grand Canyon (25-21, 25-8, 25-11) in the first of its two matches on Saturday at the Nebraska Invitational.

The Huskers improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2012, while Grand Canyon fell to 0-2. Lincoln – The No. 5 Nebraska volleyball team began the 2015 season with a 25-22, 25-14, 25-16 sweep of Tulsa at the Nebraska Invite at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Friday night before 8,028 fans.

Annika Albrecht led the Huskers with a double-double in her first career start. The sophomore had a career-high 10 kills and 11 digs. Huskers Down CMU in Double-Overtime Thriller

Lincoln, Neb.–The Nebraska soccer team put forth a valiant group effort to overtake Central Michigan 4-3 in double-overtime at Barbara Hibner Field on Friday night.

The Huskers opened up the first half in style, showing dominant possession of the ball throughout. Redshirt freshman Lia Baldo got things rolling for the Big Red in the 18th minute, kicking in a shot from just outside the box off of an assist from junior Courtney Claasssen to take the lead 1-0.
