All 10 Huskers Qualify for NCAA Championships

For the first time since 1995, the entire Husker lineup has qualified for the NCAA Championships. Seven Huskers earned seeds when the NCAA announced its brackets for each weight class on Wednesday.

Schreiber Hits Two Homers, Huskers Blank Bears 8-0

Lincoln – The Nebraska baseball team (4-6, 0-0 Big Ten) won its 38th straight home opener on Tuesday afternoon at Hawks Field with a 8-0 shutout of the Northern Colorado Bears. Sophomore Scott Schreiber drove in a career-high four runs with two home runs and a double, while fellow sophomore Garett King tossed 6.0 scoreless innings for his first win of the year. Evanston, Ill. – Nebraska’s comeback fell short Sunday afternoon, as the Huskers fell at Northwestern, 65-54, in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Nebraska (14-17, 6-11 Big Ten) trimmed a 20-point deficit to 55-49 with 4:03 remaining after a pair of Shavon Shields free throws, but could not get closer, as the Wildcats held on down the stretch. Continue reading “Husker Comeback Falls Short”

Dudley Takes Runner-Up Honors at Big Tens

Iowa City, Iowa – All-American TJ Dudley (184) fell to No. 3 seed Sammy Brooks of Iowa, 6-4, to take runner-up honors in the Big Ten Championships at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Long Beach, Calif. – The Nebraska pitching staff gave up just four runs over 22.0 innings in a doubleheader on Saturday at Blair Field, but NU’s offense was held to one run on the day and the Huskers dropped both games of the double dip to the No. 20 Long Beach State Dirtbags. Indianapolis – Natalie Romeo tied her own Nebraska Big Ten Tournament record by knocking down seven three-pointers, and Allie Havers added her second straight double-double, but it wasn’t enough as the Huskers suffered a 66-63 loss to Rutgers in their opening game of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Huskers Fall to Purdue on Senior Night

Lincoln – Despite a season-high 32-point effort from Shavon Shields on Senior Night, Nebraska fell to No. 15 Purdue, 81-62, on Tuesday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Shields, who has averaged 28.5 ppg since missing four games with a concussion, was spectacular in his final regular-season home appearance. The 6-foot-7 senior hit 11 of 19 shots and went 6-for-6 from the line, but was the only Nebraska (14-16, 6-11 Big Ten) player to finish in double figures. State College, Pa. – Nebraska erased an 18-point second half deficit, but Shep Garner’s free throw with 7.2 seconds left broke a 55-all tie, as the Huskers fell at Penn State 56-55 on Thursday evening.

The Huskers (14-15, 6-10 Big Ten) had an opportunity to steal a road win, but Shavon Shields jumper at the buzzer was off the mark, as Penn State (15-13, 6-9 Big Ten) held on for the victory. Continue reading “Husker Comeback Falls Short at Penn State”
