Huskers Knock Off No. 17 Michigan State

Lincoln – Jessica Shepard scored 26 points and Natalie Romeo added 25 to power Nebraska to a 73-66 women’s basketball win over No. 17 Michigan State Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

With the victory, Nebraska improved to 17-8 overall and 8-6 in the Big Ten, while Michigan State slipped to 18-7 overall and 9-5 in the conference.

The Huskers, who improved to 14-1 at home this season while playing in front of a season-high 8,338 fans on Play4Kay Day at Pinnacle Bank Arena, led 39-28 at halftime after a season-high 29 second-quarter points against the Spartans. Continue reading “Huskers Knock Off No. 17 Michigan State”

White Leads Huskers Past Penn State

Lincoln – Behind a career-high 35 points from Andrew White III, Nebraska posted a 70-54 win over Penn State Saturday evening.

The Huskers (14-12, 6-7 Big Ten) took control with a 39-7 surge spanning both halves, turning a four-point deficit late in the first half into 28-point lead before cruising to a 16-point win.

Nebraska trailed 31-27 with 1:30 left in the half before seizing momentum by running off the final five points of the half, including a 3-pointer by Glynn Watson Jr. to beat the first half buzzer and give NU a 32-31 lead at the break. Continue reading “White Leads Huskers Past Penn State”

Update on Shavon Shields

Update on Shavon Shields
Shavon Shields was conscious on his way to the hospital. He had a CT scan, which was negative.  Shavon will follow UNL’s concussion protocol. He has been dismissed from the hospital.

Huskers Shoot Past Scarlet Knights

Shavon Shields scored seven of his 17 points in an 18-1 spurt, as Nebraska broke a three-game losing streak with an 87-63 win over Rutgers on Saturday.

The Huskers (13-11, 5-6 Big Ten) clamped down on the defensive end, holding Rutgers without a field goal for the final 7:35 of the half, as Nebraska turned a 33-27 deficit into an 11-point lead just before the half. Consecutive 3-pointers by Shields and Michael Jacobson started the run before Shields’ layup with 4:25 left in the half gave the hosts the lead for good. Huskers Come Up Short Against No. 4 Terps

Lincoln – For the second straight year, Nebraska had a chance to tie in the final seconds against a top-10 Maryland team, but the Huskers fell just short, 70-65 to No. 4/3 (AP/Coaches) Maryland Wednesday evening in front of a crowd of 15,693 at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Nebraska trailed 68-65 after Diamond Stone’s missed free throw with 33 seconds left and had possession. The Huskers missed a first attempt by Shavon Shields, but the ball went off Maryland, giving the Huskers another chance with 18 seconds left. NU ran a play for Andrew White III, who finished with a game high 19 points and nine rebounds, but his 3-pointer from the wing was off the mark. Coach Riley Introduces 2016 Signing Class

Lincoln – Nebraska Head Coach Mike Riley announced the Huskers’ 2016 signing class on Wednesday, a group that includes 21 scholarship players who hail from 14 states.

Riley’s second recruiting class at Nebraska features 10 players on both offense and defense and one specialist.

Lincoln – Jessica Shepard scored 20 points, Natalie Romeo added 19 and Anya Kalenta pitched in her first career double-double off the bench as Nebraska ran to an 87-69 women’s basketball win over Penn State on Tuesday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Huskers Fall at No. 21 Purdue, 89-74

shavon shieldsWest Lafayette, Ind. – Andrew White III led four Huskers in double figures, but Purdue’s inside game was too much, as the No. 21 Boilermarkers topped Nebraska, 89-74, at Mackey Arena Saturday afternoon.

Piscataway, N.J. – Nebraska jumped to an early lead but Rutgers outscored the Huskers 17-7 in the final six minutes to hand NU a 66-56 road loss at the RAC on Saturday afternoon.

Romeo Ties Three-Point Record, Shoots Huskers to Win

Lincoln – Natalie Romeo tied Nebraska’s three-point record for the second time in two weeks, knocking down eight threes to finish with 30 points and shooting the Huskers to a 75-62 women’s basketball win over Wisconsin on Wednesday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
