SEATTLE (AP) — Rookie Mike Montgomery tossed a four-hitter against the team that drafted him, Dustin Ackley singled, doubled and homered for his first three-hit game of the season and the Seattle Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 7-0 on Tuesday night.

Montgomery (2-2) became the second Mariners pitcher this season to toss a complete game, joining Felix Hernandez, and he became the 10th rookie in Seattle history to toss a complete game. Montgomery retired 17 straight batters at one point, striking out a career-high 10 and allowing only two base runners after the second inning.

Montgomery was originally drafted by the Royals, but was eventually traded to Tampa Bay before landing in Seattle via trade before the start of this season. He walked none and escaped a bases loaded jam in the first inning before overpowering Kansas City the rest of the way.

SEATTLE (AP) — Joe Blanton pitched six-plus innings of two-hit ball, Alcides Escobar had three hits and the Kansas City Royals beat the Seattle Mariners 4-1 on Monday night.

Blanton (2-0) struck out seven and worked into the seventh inning before being lifted after allowing a leadoff double.

Kelvin Herrera, Wade Davis and Greg Holland all pitched one inning of relief. Holland earned his 14th save in 15 opportunities.

Felix Hernandez (10-4) took the loss after allowing four runs, nine hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five.

Escobar had three singles, drove in a run and scored a run. Mike Moustakas had two hits including an RBI double.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — David Ortiz passed two Hall of Famers with his 476th home run, and the Boston Red Sox banged out 13 extra-base hits Sunday in a 13-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

Hanley Ramirez hit his team-best 15th homer and Mookie Betts also went deep for the Red Sox, who set a season high for runs. Xander Bogaerts had three doubles, and Wade Miley pitched six scoreless innings.

Ortiz homered leading off the fourth inning to move past Stan Musial and Willie Stargell into 28th place on the career home run list.

Betts, Brock Holt and Dustin Pedroia, the first three batters in the lineup, each had three of Boston’s 16 hits. They combined to go 9 for 15 with seven runs and six RBIs.

Betts, who missed the cycle by a single, is batting (.556) with nine extra-base hits in a nine-game hitting streak.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kendrys Morales homered on his 32nd birthday and the Kansas City Royals rallied to beat the Boston Red Sox 7-4 on Saturday night.

Morales hit a two-run, tie-breaking shot in a five-run fifth off Rick Porcello (4-8). It was his third career homer on his birthday.

The Red Sox lost third baseman Pablo Sandoval (sprained left ankle) and catcher Blake Swihart (sprained left foot) to injuries and designated hitter David Ortiz was ejected in the seventh inning by home plate umpire Bruce Dreckman.

The Red Sox scored two runs in the top of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead, but Porcello imploded in the bottom of the inning with a hit batter, a balk, a walk and four hits.

Porcello lost his sixth straight, matching his career high set in 2012. He allowed six runs, eight hits, two walks and hit two batters in five innings.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Eduardo Rodriguez pitched capably into the seventh inning, Mookie Betts had a career-best four hits and the Boston Red Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 7-3 on Friday night.

Rodriguez (3-1), who gave up nine runs in 4 2-3 innings in his previous start against Toronto, allowed one run and six hits in 6 1-3 innings. Alcides Escobar’s RBI-double in the fifth was the first run he allowed on the road in 18 1-3 innings.

The Red Sox batted around in a five-run second inning, which included an RBI-single by Betts. Blake Swihart contributed a two-run double, while Mike Napoli drove in two runs with a single.

Betts is 13 for 22 in his past five games, raising his average to .267.

Boston’s Hanley Ramirez hit his 14th home run in the fifth.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alcides Escobar had three hits and scored twice and Jeremy Guthrie pitched six effective innings as the Kansas City Royals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 on Thursday night.

Escobar doubled to lead off the Royals’ two-run first then scored on Lorenzo Cain’s sacrifice fly. Escobar singled in the second, stole second base and scored on Mike Moustakas’ two-out single.

Kendrys Morales’ two-out single in the first drove in Eric Hosmer, who had doubled, with the other Royals’ run.

Guthrie (5-4) picked up his first victory since May 20, allowing two runs and seven hits, walked none and struck out four.

Greg Holland worked the ninth to earn his 12th save in 13 opportunities.

With the victory, Ned Yost surpassed Whitey Herzog as the winningest manager in Royals’ history with 411 wins.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A jury says neither the Kansas City Royals nor a man who was hurt when he was struck in the eye by a foil-wrapped hot dog were at fault in the accident.

Jackson County jurors said nobody Wednesday was to blame for the incident at a September 2009 Royals game.

Overland Park, Kansas, resident John Coomer sued the team, saying Royals mascot Sluggerrr recklessly threw a hot dog behind his back and struck Coomer in the eye.

A jury in 2011 found Coomer 100 percent at fault because he should have been paying better attention. A Missouri appeals court disagreed in 2013, saying mascots aren’t necessary to play the game of baseball.

The Missouri Supreme Court concurred and sent the case back to Jackson County for another trial.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Joe Blanton picked up his first victory in nearly two years with five solid innings and Alcides Escobar equaled his career high with four RBIs as the Kansas City Royals pounded the Milwaukee Brewers 10-2 on Wednesday night.

Blanton (1-0) had not won since June 29, 2013, while with the Los Angeles Angels against Houston. He limited the Brewers to one run and five hits. The 34-year-old right-hander struck out four and walked none, throwing a season high 73 pitches.

Escobar tripled with the bases loaded in a four-run eighth. He also singled home a run in a three-run second. It was his third four-RBI game.

Mike Fiers (3-7) absorbed the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jurors have begun deliberations in a lawsuit against the Kansas City Royals by a man who was struck in the eye by a foil-wrapped hotdog flung by the team’s mascot.

John Coomer of Overland Park, Kansas, says he suffered a detached retina at a 2009 Royals game when Sluggerrr chucked a hot dog behind his back, striking Coomer in the eye.

The team claimed the so-called “baseball rule” was in effect and that Coomer should have been aware of what was going on around him.

Coomer sued, but a Jackson County jury sided with the team in 2011, saying Coomer was at fault. An appeals court overturned the decision in 2013, and last year the Missouri Supreme Court sent the case back to Jackson County.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Chris Young became the first Royals pitcher to drive in three runs in a game since 1972 and worked seven innings of five-hit ball Tuesday night, leading Kansas City to a 7-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Young had a two-run single in the fourth inning and an RBI single in the fifth for the Royals, who have won six of eight after a 2-9 skid. He is the sixth Kansas City pitcher with at least three RBIs and the first since Steve Busby.

Young (6-2) struck out three without any walks to improve to 12-2 in interleague starts in his career.

Lorenzo Cain and Mike Moustakas each homered for Kansas City.

Matt Garza (4-8) allowed six runs and a career-high 13 hits in 6 2-3 innings. He is 1-5 at home this year.

Milwaukee is 11-24 at Miller Park after losing its fourth game in a row.
